Idk if you’re keeping up with Protocol, but I just want you to know that in my mind, Colin and Cass are inextricably linked. IT dealing with supernatural bullshit while just tryin to keep things running? Following cables through the halls? First to notice spooky shit bc it directly affects their life and work on a daily basis? Give no shits how people feel about them bc their expertise is indispensable? Poking at the mysteries first instead of just diving headfirst into the horrors? Absolutely yes. Someone needs to get Cass in the same universe as Colin for like 48 hours so she can give him all her Pro-Tips for spooky IT work. Help him cope with the constant voyeurism. Give him a pep-talk. Help him make friends with the voices in the machine.

Anyway Cass is one of my favorite characters ever I think of her fondly and often I hope she’s thriving

I think I’m one episode behind? But yes, I have very much been enjoying Colin and his rants and thinking fondly of my own IT Horror Specialist (it’s all especially entertaining to listen to as someone who works in IT, for a company that is still clinging to some seriously outdated programs… though nothing as bad as freddy)

I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to love Cass as much as I do. I didn’t start writing gossip with any characters planned except knowing I wanted to use Hannah somehow. Cass pieced her lovable self into being one exaggerated reaction message at a time, and I couldn’t be happier with what came out. I think if I was going to change anything about gossip, it would be getting rid of 90% of the capitalization in Cass’s messages and putting in some reaction gifs

There’s a lot about cass’s character that formed in my mind that couldn’t be conveyed through just the chats included in gossip. Maybe once we get a little further into Protocol and I’ve had Colin poking at that place in my mind Cass still lives, I’ll write a little more of her. If you have any questions about her, though, I wouldn’t mind sharing

Do ya'll ever think about how every character in MDZS is living in a radically different genre of story?

Cause yeah, sure Wei Wuxian is living in a danmei fantasy novel with strong romantic comedy elements, but if you slide over a bit Lan Wangji is living a serious and heady drama about regret, loss, yearning, the passage of time, and ultimately atonement.

Scooch on over to Xichen and your in a straight up Greek tragedy, right down to the parable about hubris and trust. Jin Guangyao is living meanwhile in a political dark fantasy al'la Game of Thrones, Nie Huaisang is in a Gothic moody Monte Cristo-esque reflection on revenge and deception, and while Lan Sizhuhi and Jin Ling are living in two VERY different YA fantasy books ('magic boarding school/secret orphan of destiny' and 'Steven Universe style coming of age/discovering all your family are some flavor of evil and magic' respectively).

Everyone connected to Yi City is living inside a dark psychological thriller/horror flick, except for Xue Yang who is in a Found Family/Enemies to Lover fic right up until he isn't.

Jiang Cheng's entire life has been one long soap opera, and it is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Still thinking about an au in which for some reason WWX and the Wens are left to just live peacefully on the creepy death mountain - some detente wherein they don’t leave the mountain ever and in exchange no one tries to visit ever. Borders patrolled by corpses and sect disciples. So A-Yuan grows up raised kind of collectively but mostly by WWX and Wen Qing (the one most likely to tell WWX that he’s doing it wrong), and learns healing-focused spiritual cultivation AND demonic cultivation, and then at some point starts sneaking out to be the terrifying force of righteous kindness he was always going to be

In this au, despite the strict border-by-mutual-agreement that’s the only reason somehow no ones tried to attack, LWJ sneaks in like one a year so he and WWX can make eyes at one another but not actually say anything ever, and Wen Qing and LXC are both EXHAUSTED bc both their dumb little brothers (WWX is a sibling by adoption now don’t @ me) mope for like a week after EVERY SINGLE TIME THIS HAPPENS, and it’s been /over ten years/.

Meanwhile Jiang YanLi and JZX are FINE, and JYL somehow keeps up some sort of correspondence with WWX - or at least, he’s faithfully managed to send a birthday present for Jin Ling every single year, and every time, JYL makes her son write a thank-you note and bribes some series of people to get it smuggled back to Yiling

…which means, honestly, that Jin Ling is probably wildly curious about his uncle the evil demonic cultivator kept trapped within the terrible ghost mountain by the forces of Good and Right, and WILL sneak out one day to try to visit. Optimally, obviously, at the same time Wen Yuan is sneaking out to see the non-mountain world

The optimal plot is that Wen Yuan ropes Jin Ling into helping him set up WWX and LWJ, because he, too, is exasperated at this point, and Jin Ling ropes Wen Yuan into arranging like a parent trap reunion for the Jiang siblings, and obviously there are monsters and undead to complicate it all
