Ekon

Vienna and Desi also share their home with Ekon. Ekon is a massive and strange skeletal figure that grows plants out of his body. A small but loud group of people who live outside of the Dark Forest actively warn others about the “Old Farmer” who supposedly haunts the woods and kills people. Ekon is actually just introverted and wants to be left alone to grow stuff. Most people just don’t take the time to talk to him. Ekon is a gay ghost who inhabits a body made from a discarded scarecrow and various plant life as well as a kind and gentle soul.

Vienna the Night Witch

Vienna is a powerful and ancient magic user, she harness the natural magic of the night and moon to weave spells into existence. She is the oldest living magic user in Morrowmere, the leader of a coven of ancient witches and she is also Desi’s adoptive mother. She is kind and caring, raising them from a young age in their small home within the Dark Forest. She is aware of their murderous tendencies and tries to steer them towards killing morally bad people. She is dyslexic, and also anosmic (can’t smell).

Desi

Desi is a young (20-ish) kitsune child. They live in the Dark Forest. They are very kind and cute and friendly, as well as curious. They are close to half the nearby town and seen as a good person. Desi is also a murderer and never goes anywhere without knives. They’re often overlooked or underestimated because of their personality and size, which is something they are aware of and make use of. You could accuse Desi of murder and they would look at you with big side eyes and say “Who me?”. They love flower crowns.

what was Monica’s childhood like?

Monica had a pretty alright childhood. She had very kind parents. They weren’t very rich or anything but they managed. Her trauma started more or less once she reached adulthood.

Magic in Morrowmere

There are two schools of magic in Morrowmere: Verbal and Material.

Material magic utilizes the natural magical energy of Morrowmere. Nearly everything in Morrowmere has magic infusing it and the people of Morrowmere can harness this. Some people use this through channeling the natural power of the elements, harnessing the might of crystals or plants. This magic is most commonly used to make physical objects like magical equipment or potions or the like.

Verbal magic has a greater possibility for power in comparison to Material magic, but also much greater risk. Verbal magic harnesses raw imaginative power in tandem with the infinite might of magic, but to cast it one must speak it into action. Magic can interpret some of it, but the more complex of a result you want, the more complex and specific you must be.

Anyone can do magic, in fact nearly everyone does but to truly wield magic takes a lot of practice and effort. it also takes respect. Magic in Morrowmere is a sentient and powerful entity, one which lives alongside and in symbiosis with the people who inhabit this world. Magic's sentience often leads to quirks developing, like families sharing magic they've figured out eventually turning into an entire family line being exceptional at that type of spell because the magic sought to help them with the thing they did.

While it is a symbiotic relationship and the magic seeks to help the people who inhabit Morrowmere, there are historic accounts of individuals who believed they could control magic, and do whatever they wanted, only for the magic to become petty and spiteful and disrupt them in every way it could.

Zeke

Zeke is a transmasc Thunderbird alchemist. He doesn't want to physically transition, despite being able to and really likes how he looks. Zeke works as an alchemist in Sevitey city as well as being an accomplished Material Mage.

Isyander

Isyander is a librarian at the Sevitey Library, he is an incredibly hardworking member of the Aquatics division, though he does have a lot of anxiety over his work. Whenever he gets super stressed he tends to age regress physically as well as mentally, reverting to a young age before he grows back to his adult form. He's based on a Immortal Jellyfish which is how he does this. He is an egg, and will become a trans woman some day, for now he just really likes women's clothes.

Natri

Natri is a usually overtly cheery and energetic individual, always trying to please and help everyone. Natri has IED and it can cause him to have rage filled outbursts. He feels bad afterwards and tries to make up for it by helping others, especially by being a tailor. They are appreciated in their community and others try to help him with his anger issues as much as possible.

Monica

Monica is a very silly individual. She’s a 3’ 4” bisexual satyr woman. She’s on her third divorce. She’s an alcoholic. She’s a burnt out gifted kid. She is essentially the protagonist of a Noir Detective novel in a high fantasy setting. She has an inner monologue like a Noir Detective, and sometimes she thinks out loud and gets weird looks because it’s a noir detective style monologue. She’s always getting into fights. She has one arm and has just figured out how to fight and survive without it. She has two kids who love her very much. She is almost always either working or sleeping, the reason she works so much is because she is making sure her kids can live good lives. She has a dart board she taped the pictures of her awful exes too and then almost never actually hits the board.

Ezri

Ezri is the high librarian of the Sevitey Library. The library is so soaked in magical energy that it’s eldritch and non Euclidean in nature. It’s full of weird entities and creatures and whole new forms of magic are birthed and die within the library. As the head librarian it is Ezri’s job to lead the Sevitey librarians in the maintenance of the strange world within the library walls. Ezri lives inside the library always vigilant against possible threats. Ezri does have Schizophrenia, but has found that the library is a good job for her. The library bombards her with eldritch horrors and she might be in her own reality, or the usual horrors the library throws at her are stuff she’s dealt with her whole life, or she simply doesn’t register the eldritch horror as anything other than a hallucination and so it’s mind rending nature fails to affect her. She also has a pet cat because it will alert her if there is an actual monster and it helps calm her anxiety.

Pyra

Pyra is a hotheaded and feisty salamander woman. She has ADHD and Neurally Mediated Hypotension. She tries to kill Iris when they first meet (they eventually fall in love). She is best friends with the Toy Soldier. Pyra loves to cook for people, it’s part of how she shows she cares about people. She does have disordered eating herself and feels uncomfortable eating around other people.

The Toy Soldier

The Toy Soldier is part of the main character cast. He was made to be a powerful warrior and serve the Morrowmerian government. He was not interested in anything they wanted him to be and chose his own life path. They made him a female body, but he identified more with the male gender. He doesn’t care if he doesn’t look like what some people think a man should look like, he likes who he is. The Toy Soldier does flirt aggressively but is actually Aro/Ace, he’s just doing it for fun. If people return interest he’ll turn it down. He is fueled by blood and when he opens his mouth it’s like a wood chipper inside. He has autism, and hyperfixate a on clockwork. One of the ways he stims is by rocking back and forth and making clock noises.

Iris Blackthorn

Iris Blackthorn is the main character of Morrowmere. She is a very recently out of the closet trans woman. She has horrible posture, and is diagnosed with Depression, Anxiety, and Depression. She starts the story in our world, before being dragged into Morrowmere. Once in Morrowmere she gets the lower half of a snake and magic and stuff. The new body isn’t perfect (she still has dysphoria because she’s smaller than afab snake people because male snakes are smaller for example) but it’s a step closer towards her having a body she’s happy in.

Morrowmere is a fantasy setting that takes place in a Otherworld somewhat similar to Alice in Wonderland. The otherworld is called Morrowmere, hence the story’s name. Morrowmere is a queer and neurodivergent normative setting, with a goal of being incredibly inclusive and offering a story that can represent minority groups as well as I possibly can.
