last line tag
Thank you for the tag, @sleepy-night-child, and don’t feel pressured to show up or anything if you’re busy or just tired–I am simply gently invoking your name for luck. I happened to write a smidge yesterday, so have a few lines!
Velia tugged her jacket tighter and followed Fynn through the throngs. He was searching for the other boys, eyes darting left and right, but it would take ages to find them that way. “You need to get higher up,” she called, sidestepping someone’s trunk.
“There,” he agreed, pointing to a wrought iron stairway leading to the second level. “Wait here—no, you better come with.”
I’ll tag @ashen-crest @drippingmoon @fiercely-raging-writer @writingcryptid @talesfromaurea and anyone else who’d like to hop on!

🌹🍁 💫 for knox i believe his name was ? :0
@emelkae tagging since you also sent these symbols, thank you both sm~!
🌹 — When he was younger, Knox would have said he had nowhere that made him feel at home. It's definitely not a singular place, being under the stars makes him feel at home though. For as long as he could remember one of the only ways he could calm himself down was to focus on the patterns in the stars, if he could see them, and this habit carried him through quite a few terrible nights in his youth. His hometown/home aren't Homes to him; he spent most of his childhood moving from one bad place to another, the idea of home was an impossible fantasy. A little older, he might say home is the people you surround yourself with, and that attitude is hard earned. Devon was the first person who was ever able to show him what it felt like to have a home, and he looked for that feeling in anyone and everyone he met after her. She was the most patient, caring, and adventurous person; Devon taught Knox that he could be different that what people told him he was, that he had a choice in who he would be.
🍁 — Before he had his own place to live, Knox's safe place was a second floor corner of an abandoned warehouse. It was frequented by many people down on their luck but not usually for long, and Knox was alone there most of the time. There was a hole in the ceiling that Knox could look through at night, almost like a natural night light with the city's glow. In his apartment, his safe place is usually the bathroom because it is small and he can lock himself in there. Knox has a hard time feeling safe in general, if he's able to settle down I could see him having a reading nook that he'd feel very safe in.
💫 — My favorite fact about Knox is that he has a very strong moral compass and it doesn't necessarily fit the standard. There are things Knox feels justified in doing that someone else would balk at, and call him a monster for. Above all, Knox believes people who have less power to protect themselves should be protected by people who can, even if that means getting his hands dirty. There were times he enjoyed getting his hands dirty, especially on someone who he felt deserved it. He's not perfect, but his heart is in the right place, and that's what really matters in the end.

It's Trans Day of Visibility 🥳 Being seen is a wonderful thing in lots of ways, and it's good to celebrate that!
But it's not always safe to put yourself out there, and sometimes you'd just rather keep your head down. So, for anyone who needs to hear this:
You don't owe it to anyone to be out about your transness
"Out" is not a binary - you can be be out in some circumstances and closeted in others and that's OK
However "out" you are, you're still trans
However "out" you are, you're no less a member of our community
You don't need a better reason to wait than, "I don't want to come out yet"
I love you

Hitman’s Guide To Retirement
“So that’s it? You’re not even going to try and fight?” “I have fought,” Knox slams his fist on the table, startling nearby diners, he continues in a hushed, acidic hiss, “God dammit, I’ve been fighting my whole life.”
working title: how to retire from killing for hire. genre: urban fiction / coming of age category: adult POV: 3rd person, unreliable narrators with potential POV shifts status: outlining / organizing / first draft* spotify playlist(s): general vibes. *nothing is a permanent choice yet, still feeling things out.
themes, not limited to: grief, found family, older coming of age, healing from trauma, lost love, single fatherhood, morally gray characters, mental illness, cPTSD, trans/queer main cast.
content warnings: violence, familial abuse, blood, death/murder, use of guns/knives/fists, substance abuse, gratuitous swearing. will add more as i think of them.
vibes: a daytime thunderstorm that makes the sky look so dark it feels like night’s come early, the acrid feeling of whiskey hitting an empty stomach, knowing you don’t have much time left but wanting to make the most of it, except no one’s ever taught you how to do that quite right; nowhere feels quite like home, but the sound of the motorcycle engine and the empty highway ahead of you are as close to comfort as anything you’ve ever known. you feel calm in chaos, but you know you’re missing something vital in your life, and you want to find it — even if it means changing everything.
synopsis: Knox is tired. After spending most of his life working for Noah, a powerful man who didn’t want to get his own hands dirty, Knox has nothing in his life except insurmountable loss, and a bounty on his head. Rory, the surviving son of Noah, has made it his singular mission to see Knox killed, and he has just won the city’s seat as Mayor. Knowing he will no longer be able to stay safe in the city, Knox attempts escape only to be stopped by a small, sobbing girl tugging at his shirt. What follows is the story of a man who just wants to do what’s right with the rest of his time on earth, however he possibly can and a young girl who teaches him more about family than anyone else ever could.
main cast, so far…:
Knox. Thirty-two. Bisexual Trans Man. He/Him.
Homeless and orphaned by age nine, Knox spent some of his youth with kind souls who took pity on him only to disappear on them without warning. A man, Daniel, was trying to get out from under his boss, Noah Ritter, and thought training Knox to do what he did would be the trick to do it. He bought Knox’s trust with food, he trained Knox like a soldier, to kill without trace, and to feel no remorse for it. Except Knox could never quite get the “no remorse” part right. Now he is just trying to stay under the radar, and survive.
Rory Ritter. Thirty-Seven. Cis Het Man. He/Him.
The only son of Noah Ritter, Rory followed his father’s real estate mogul footsteps and took over the family business when Noah was killed. Rory has always been cold and ambitious, the pride of his father, he knew he was destined for greatness from a young age. He began running for office as soon as he was old enough to, and found easy success as he is charming when public facing. Privately, Rory is quick to anger and often cruel and unusual when lashing out.
Kimi. (pronounced Key-me) Eight. She/Her.
Kimi was given to her grandmother when she was just six months old, her young parents decided to elope without her, siting that the responsibility of parenthood was too great. Her grandmother loved her deeply, and instilled her with strong beliefs from a young age. Selectively mute, Kimi communicates mostly through writing and sign language. Though she’s young, she is generally very intuitive and knows who/what to avoid when exploring the city. She is never without a matted stuffed Peter Rabbit that was once her mother’s.
Samuel Highland. Thirty-Five. Gay Cis Man. He/Him.
A detective with some skeletons in his closet, Sam is about true justice. He despises Rory, and the Ritters, but is not popular with his chief or coworkers because of it. Though he doesn’t remember much, Sam knew Knox when they were young when his mother gave child Knox a place to stay. As an adult, Knox sought Sam out when he “retired” as an attempt to form amnesty over collectively taking the Ritters down. Sam is good natured but rough around the edges from a life of having to prove himself worthy constantly. He has a strong moral compass and cannot stand to see innocent people get harmed for greed.
Alicia Geldcrest. Forty-Two. Lesbian Trans Woman. She/Her.
Former personal assistant to Noah Ritter, Alicia is headstrong and extremely intelligent. After Noah’s death, Alicia decided to take the people loyal to her and create a sort of counter crew to fight Rory’s power. Alicia is the type to help anyone she thinks deserves it if she can.

me, writing: this sentence is way too long. I need to condense it in a way that makes it grammatically correct while still preserving the original meaning I’m trying to convey
the devil on my shoulder: or, you can add five more commas, a semi colon, three em dashes, fifty more words, and it’ll all come together in a way that’s technically grammatically correct but completely incomprehensible to anyone who reads it, even yourself!
me, writing faster: you’re a genius

It is 100% okay not to be totally confident in your writing, as long as you don't let it prevent you from doing it and enjoying it.
We all struggle with self-doubt here and there. The key is to push through it and not let it determine if you are willing to continue or not.

LOVE character regression. love when characters get hurt and revert to their old ways as a way to deflect, cope, and recuperate. love when they get scared to make a difficult decision. love when it takes time and effort. it's going to be worth so much more when they get better.

WORK IN PROGRESS INTRO;
WORKING TITLE: The Red Hand of Fate
GENRE: Portal Fantasy
POV: Third Person Limited
THEMES/TROPES: The Chosen One (Subverted), Queer Characters, Fate and Choice, History Is Written By The Victors, Found Family, Fantasy Typical Violence
ABOUT;
When he was twelve, Connor Sinclair stepped into a puddle in New York City and woke up in the Valelands, a Champion of the Realm and the hero of a most important quest.
For two years Connor was the Champion, two years of training his powerful gift, of uniting the Vales against the terror of the Goblin King, two years of learning how to stand up and fight to survive. And Connor was good at it. He belonged there more than he had ever belonged in his real world. The people he met along the way had become his family, from the roaming wolf pack, to the elves of the Whispered Wood, to the boy who he was doing it all for. The boy made King of the Northern Vale too soon, burdened with a country threatened by war in the wake of his father's death. When the time came to finish his quest, Connor did not fail. The Goblin King died by his hand, peace was restored to the Vales and Connor's friends were safe and happy.
And then, with no warning and no goodbye, he was sent back.
Now twenty two, veteran of a war no therapist would believe he had fought in and disconnected from the magic that had become as much part of him as the blood in his veins, Connor knows two things. That Doors only open to kids who won't be missed while they're gone. And that the Champions were nothing but tools to be used and discarded when the job was done.
But when a girl goes missing and Connor starts to see the impossible, starts to see Doors opening up again for him, it seems the Valelands aren't done with him yet. Connor isn't a child anymore, and the Valelands are no longer as simple as they once seemed; the lines between friend and foe have been blurred and he knows better than to trust the people who would aim him like a weapon at their problems and release.
And this time Connor has set his own quest; this time he's not there to save the Valelands, he's there to save fourteen year old Sadie Blaine, the new Champion.
