Adding my reply as a reblog to see if anyone else has any camera knowledge to add in :)

- when turning on AF, triple check that both the lens itself as well as the camera are set to AF. If one is still in MF it won’t read properly

- when switching between AF and MF completely turn the camera off, make the switch, then turn it back on. Sometimes it won’t register the switch, so starting from off is always a good bet.

-Make sure the zoom is unlocked on the camera. I always lock mine when not in use and sometimes forget to unlock it, but that could also screw with the AF read on the camera

- lastly, check the firmware on the lens itself! There are tutorials online on how to do this, but Sigma and Nikons don’t always play nicely if their firmwares aren’t both up to date.

this is incredibly random but i have the most reach on this blog so im gonna ask here .. lol

so, if anyone is a camera nerd, i am begging for your assistance:

background - i bought a sigma 70-200 f2.8 for my D5600 (these are compatible and the previous owner of the lens was using the same exact camera body with no problems, she provided video proof before shipping the lens to me). the lens is in perfect condition, no scratches, haze, etc. the manual focus and zoom both work perfectly

the issue - so, first time i put the lens on the autofocus is working wonderfully and there’s no issues. i go and change photo quality to RAW and suddenly the AF is no longer working (even if i change it back to FINE/etc). the lens is switched to AF, but on the screen it switches between manual and AF repeatedly (like probably every 1.5 seconds)

things ive tried:

- cleaning both the body attachment part and the lens attachment part

- resetting focus settings/experimenting with focus settings

- turning off auto ISO (according to the internet this sometimes causes it?? idk?)

- checked the firmware of my camera body and it’s still compatible with the lens

- quadruple checking with other lenses that it’s not a body issue

- im probably forgetting something buttt i feel like ive tried everything lmfao

ill probably end up taking it to a camera store and they’ll fix it with the simplest fix ever But i wanted to see if anyone on here knew anything 😇
