MORE MARTHA(FEM!ARTHUR) RAMBLES

Shipping. Look, look LOOK AT ME. I too HAAATE when people make gay ships straight. Hate it.

However, I am a charthur shipper through and through and in my Martha (fem arthur) AU i still want some charthur angst and shenanigans. Soooo

My thoughts on this are: the point of this AU has seemingly become an exploration of gender and that will continue into Martha’s (fem Arthur) romantic relationships. What would be the aspects of Martha that Charles would find attractive and vice versa. Charles’ presentation of (positive) masculinity is something Arthur holds deep respect and admiration for but Martha would appreciate those things in a different way because as a woman her masculinity and the masculinity of others means something different than it would to Arthur.

Also their races and genders would intercept. Being a white woman being with a black native man would’ve been seen as disgusting or taboo or even more of a sign that Martha is the “wrong” type of woman because she’d be involved with the “wrong” type of man. Also with Charles watching how he interacts with Martha, how racist gang members (cough cough MICAH AND BILL cough cough) would make comments about their interactions and make gross comments to him to get under his skin or try intimidate him. The 1800s sucked ass.

Neither characters have canon sexualities (I headcanon arthur/martha as bisexual and Charles as queer or pan) I don’t think that it erases any representation or adds a rare gay ship straight in a fandom/media filled with straight ships(or necessarily makes the couple ‘straight’ at all) which is what tends to happen alot with genderbending gay ships to straight ships.

But also I think a lot of gender bending doesn’t actually bend the gender but it simply changes the looks of the characters from masculine to feminine or vice versa. There isn’t much gender bending in general that really thinks about hoe the dynamics would change, why and how they preform the gender the way they do ect ect. Idfk gender is so interesting to me its a different rabt interally ANYWAYS

also Mary remains a woman so like. Its still so gay. Martha is so so queer, bisexual icon, sad gayness intensifies gender expression goes brrrr gender is a circus performance and she gives Charles a big loving kiss on the mouth mwah
