Hey y’all know how Brits like to argue about American cheese not being a real cheese and there’s a secondary debate as to whether it melts or not. I accidentally figured out that they’re not talking about American cheese AT ALL.
So there’s the most common brand of American cheese the Kraft Singles which seems weird compared to regular cheese because they’re slices of cheese made with added milk to make it all melty.
Exhibit A: The ingredients list from Kraft Singles
Tumblr media
And then it turns out there’s this product packaged extremely like Kraft singles that might look like an off brand competitor if you don’t read the labels called “Imitation Cheese” that looks like
Exhibit B:
Tumblr media
They are made with something called “Cheese analogues” which are “products used as culinary replacements for cheese. They are usually products made by blending other fats or proteins” and are designed not to met like normal cheese.
So people have been out here picking up imitation cheese and calling it American cheese because they probably assumed it was off brand Kraft singles and calling it garbage without knowing it’s an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT PRODUCT!!!

Citizen Initiative Overview
In political terminology, the initiative is a process that enables citizens to bypass their state legislature by placing proposed statutes and, in some states, constitutional amendments on the ballot.
Popular Referendum Overview
The popular referendum is a measure that appears on the ballot as a result of a voter petition drive and is similar to the initiative in that both are triggered by petitions, but there are important differences. The popular referendum allows voters to approve or repeal an act of the Legislature. If the Legislature passes a law that voters do not approve of, they may gather signatures to demand a popular vote on the law.
Our representatives aren’t representing us anymore, please read and help spread the idea that we need to start a Citizens Initiative and Referendum.
🇵🇸 Please support the olive branch initiative on TikTok as well, and help spread this information as well. Look for info on the Operation Olive branch on TikTok through @operation Olive branch and @Erin Hattamer ‘s TikTok page 🇵🇸

OP, I know this is a metaphor, but I can’t not think about the REAL squirrel problem my house has had forever.
For probably well over a decade, my childhood home has had a problem with squirrels breaking into our attic. They figured out long ago that they could chew through the wood at the edge of the roof and make a nice home for themselves. This of course pissed off my father because they’re running around during the day when he sleeps because he works night shift, they disturb his sleep. So like a rational person, he decided to try and get rid of the squirrels. He set up an animal trap in the attic with bait and has patched the holes. It has not worked.
They chew through the repairs, even when they’re reinforced with metal it gets chewed through. The traps, although non-lethal, have killed many squirrels because apparently it causes them panic attacks and the stress kills them pretty quickly. I wouldn’t even know squirrels could die from stress if my dad hadn’t wondered why the squirrel he had barely heard caught in the trap was dead when he checked the trap immediately after. At some point he even got a pellet gun and was going to take them out but he doesn’t know anything about guns so he shot with the safety on and then it ran off and mom made him get rid of the pellet gun. They don’t care about the threat of death or the other dead squirrels they’ve probably seen.
He keeps patching up the roof, reinforcing it and they are just capable of chewing through even metal. They’ll be gone for a little while and then in the early morning, I’ll hear them in the ceiling and the walls and my dad will be complaining that they’re back. It’s been well over a decade of this being a problem and the reasonable solutions just don’t work because squirrels are little bastards.
Anyway, I think it kind of fits in with the metaphor. That it’s actually a little more complicated than you think.
Imagine inviting someone to your home as a guest and you're settling in and they say "wow, your squirrels are so quiet!" and you have to pause and ask them what the fuck they mean. The squirrels in the walls. How do you keep them so quiet and out of the way? Still not quite comprehending what you're hearing, you ask them to repeat that. Why would they think you've got squirrels in your walls.
And your guest frowns in equal confusion, incredulous that you don't have squirrels in the walls. LIke, at all? Then something clicks together in their mind and they go "oh, you do the same thing as [mutual friend] does? Patching up the wall thing? So it actually works?" and it takes you a minute to process that they don't seem to actually believe that not having holes big enough for a squirrel to get in through actually leads to not having squirrels in your house.
You verify that yes. Everyone else has fixed the squirrel problem by patching the walls. Everyone else but they actually patches the walls, and nobody else but they keeps having the squirrel problem. They're the only one who does that instead of patching the wall. Your guest is insulted by your tone, insisting that it can't be that simple and that it's completely unrealistic to always keep your walls patched or to never have a squirrel in your house ever. Everyone has a squirrel in the house sometimes. You won't win this argument.
And that's what it's like to talk with americans on the internet.

@thebibliosphere
So today I found out there are some people who didn’t realise you could block someone on anon. NOBODY should have to put up with it, it’s bullying. So for those who don’t know, here’s how……..
Tumblr media
First of all, go to the ask inbox from your account settings page (not the notifications page. You can do it from there, but it’s more longwinded) Open the ask inbox…….
Tumblr media
Tap on the three dots and those options will appear. You can either report, block or delete.
Please reblog this so anyone who keeps getting anon hate knows what to do ☝

@thebibliosphere Do you have a link to that post with the allergen checker websites? I recently had an allergic reaction to something for the first time and I’m trying to figure out what caused it.

Odds are the reason nothing works on this site is because they don’t have the funding to prioritize it. Yes the search bar doesn’t always work properly but it works just well enough that it doesn’t matter when they need the money for something else.
The truth is that the people who keep it functioning need to be paid because they’re human beings that need to live and it needs to make it some how.
Frankly I think the Reddit model is probably the best bet for monetizing tumblr. I’m not sure what kind of “perks” Tumblr could offer that would make optional premium memberships worthwhile, beyond basic stuff like no ads”, “ability to make posts unrebloggable”, and a handful of useful organization features.
Would it be annoying? Sure. But as profitability is necessary for the site’s continued survival and most other ploys have failed, and optional monthly memberships for certain reasonable perks is a hell of a lot more practical than... well. Other options.
Also? Having a tumblr analogue to Reddit gold would be incredibly funny.
