Please do not diss/insult others who DO choose to include themselves in discourse. The profic/anti discourse goes beyond "just go outside/get a job/etc", especially since anti-fiction/pro-censorship beliefs are ROOTED in fascism. This affects real life, especially since we are seeing a resurgence of fascist ideas. One of the first things the nazis targeted was art and literature.

Being anti-censorship, pro kink, and pro fiction is important to me because my family history includes those who had to flee Italy and Germany when the holocaust was occurring, and some of those left behind were killed or just barely survived. Every day I am reminded of this fact, seeing posts that are basically endorsing nazism without explicitly saying so, packaged in a way to seem 'progressive' by anti-fiction standards. Dismissing the discourse by saying "ugh just go outside why even be worried about this", even if you do not side with antis, dismisses the real like repercussions of how problematic their ideology is and how it affects real people. Several countries are currently suffering due to fascism being on the rise again, and one of the many ways people have fought back against this kind of oppression is through art; And as I said before, art of all kinds is one of the first things to be attacked. Being pro-fiction is more than just fighting to be able to enjoy what ship dynamics you like. It is about the fight against harmful ideologies, the right to speak your mind, the right to show whatever you want through your art, and the right to exist. Of course, it's good to take breaks from discourse/avoid it (I take breaks from it all the time), but PLEASE do not insult others who choose to engage in it.

One of the aggressors was a girl with early symptoms of schizophrenia, or psychosis, at least. Both mental disorders are characterized by a detachment from reality and not being able to separate what's real from what it's not. It's not a case of "Fiction affects reality", it's a case of "Psychosis and other related disorders will make it difficult for a person to differentiate between fiction and reality, which can end up really badly when these disorders are left untreated". /gen

Even when these young girls were interrogated by authorities, one of them heavily insisted that she was "saving" themselves by murdering another girl because Slenderman told them that. That's the definition of delusions and delirium. She genuinely believed she was doing something good or useful, despite everyone else knowing that Slenderman isn't real. This is a relatively common issue when people with psychotic disorders don't get treatment: they harm themselves or others, following orders of "God", "the Devil", "a demon", "an angel", and so on. /gen

Anti-Proshippers are blaming fictional stories for mental health related issues. To be honest, I think this could have been prevented if the parents or someone else stepped into what was happening into that young girl's mind, but early symptoms of mental illness often get overlooked as "teen problems". Wherever this person is, I hope she heals from this and recovers from her disorder. /gen

For us it's very up and down, sometimes we feel bad for them because we know a lot of them are kids who are confused or have been manipulated into it / are in denial of their trauma, but then we see fully grown adults claim to be endogenic and we just want to go into a full rage because how the fuck can you be like 25 years old and still not understand the very basics of a disorder you claim to have???!!
