dizziness, brain fog, needing to lay down frequently, and heart palpitations have been a part of my life since i was a teenager. i remember the freedom that i felt before these symptoms developed. how i went from being a bright, confident child (who gave excellent class speeches and had all the kids at my birthday parties) to feeling dizzy, sick, and increasingly inward. increasingly not caring about the things that once made me happy and what once felt normal. that damaged my self-esteem for a long time. i was diagnosed with POTS a few weeks ago and, ngl, i still cry when i think about how i never asked for any of this. that and celiac feel like a lot. like my body can't do shit for itself unless i'm treating it all day, every single day. i have methods now to feel better and they work surprisingly well. legs raised, lots of water, lots of salt (so that my body can retain the water), tolerable exercise that doesn't raise my bpm painfully high, and so on. these things do help onsets of brain fog significantly. but damn. it's still sad. i'm focusing on work and my future this summer. these are the things that anchor me no matter how badly i feel. that's all.

as much as i dislike horticulture's reliance on peat in soil mixes, there's yet to be a good alternative for large-scale growing and uhhhh there are no peat bogs in the US. the entirety of our potting soil supply comes from canada. so canadian tariffs are going to cause some big issues for the industry.

ok my OTHER reflection:

on the one hand its really frustrating to see the posts about docs and healthcare in general on here be so narrow-minded. bad experiences with certain providers have lead to a huge spread of misinformation and mistrust with the whole system. which can and HAS lead to people avoiding 'evil' doctors for perfectly treatable illnesses and dying from them (the vaccine bullshit, anyone?)

but on the other hand. it is TERRIFYING how some of these docs practice medicine. at times i think 'are you just burned out and don't give a shit or are you straight up just stupid?' and i work in critical care. where quite literally every case is life or death. even in the academic sector where there is supposedly a standard of excellence, some doctors i would not let touch my loved ones with a ten foot pole.

and that sucks. i know this is the no nuance piss on the poor webbed site but 'the medical system and people that work for it are fallible and aspects of it are morally questionable at best/unethical at worst' AND 'the field of medicine exists to help people first and foremost and mistrusting/avoiding it can be detrimental in the long run' can and DO co-exist

A while back you made a post talking about yakumo and his sensitivity to temperature and I haven't stopped thinking about it. imagine when winter comes around and yakumo becomes progressively sluggish, usually staying in the kitchen and not leaving for hours, always making something near the stove to feel a little warmth from the flames or from a little taste of the things he's making (soup probably), or him picking up the habit of bundling himself up and staying in the library to read and nap. maybe when it starts getting even colder he barely leaves his room because its too uncomfortably cold for him, and if he does he's probably looking for eiden to help him warm up, but if eidens not around he gets antsy and looks for somebody else in the mansion, but he's too shy to ask and looks at whoever with his wet eyes so they know he's cold and wants a cuddle

It’s low stakes compared to a lot else going on in politics, but the Trump assassination attempt truthers bug me. In a country with a lot of pointless gun violence, I see no reason to doubt some random asshole would take pot shots at an ex president, and claims about trump acting “out of character” about it are equally silly.

In general I honestly think Echoes of Wisdom would've been improved by a smaller, more focused collection of echoes. This giant list the game currently has is impressive and gives the illusion of variety, but when you actually look at what is offered, it quickly becomes obvious that many of them are nearly or directly duplicates.

There are three different versions of pot echo, all of them the same except for aesthetics. There are three different versions of the bed echo, each upgrades of each other and increasing in cost, but otherwise identical. There are one-time use echoes like the mysterious orb and the statues that just sit in your menu for the rest of the game, taking up space. There's a whole collection of lv 2 and lv 3 upgrades of previous enemy echoes that change nothing except cost and damage output. There are four different bird enemy-type echoes with only minor differences that easily could've been one single bird enemy with a larger moveset. Loads and loads of different monster echoes have essentially the same use, as well, with ultimately not a lot of material difference in how they accomplish their goals: for example, I feel like the Guay (which swoops down in a straight line to hurt its enemy) and the Mothula (which flies at an enemy in a straight line to hurt them) are not really meaningfully different from each other. AND the Mothula has a lv 2 version as well.

This giant list of echoes is overwhelming, especially combined with a terrible UI that makes scrolling through the different echoes a pain. Nobody is going to remember every single different echo and pull out the ones whose niche perfectly fits the current situation. Likely, people won't even actually be working to develop all that creative solutions to problems, because again, scrolling through the echoes list is really annoying. People are going to pick a few favourite echoes, develop stock strategies, and stick to those.

I think having less but more varied echoes (coupled with a UI design hospitable to humans) would've been in the game's favor, because it would've made it easier for the casual player to try new things, find creative solutions, experiment. Puzzles also could've also been more complex and unique if the devs didn't have to account for a hundred different possible solutions, but only twenty. I think giving the player a slightly smaller but more varied toolbox would've encouraged far more creativity than this giant list did, because people could've actually remembered what different tools they had.

Anyway with that said we need more accessible spaces for humans too. It is so important that the world does its best to make spaces accessible to everyone. Everyone deserves to access the world and the ignorance, stubbornness, etc. of others has no right to get in the way of letting people live their lives.
