i feel like we don’t talk about this scene from the titan’s curse enough, because i think about this a lot. like… a lot. the way he was just like ‘oh i can move faster than bullets, that’s cool’, and then immediately moved on and never thought about it again?? i mean, i knew he could SWIM at mach 5, which is…. hypersonic speed, and equivalent to 3836 miles per hour. and i know all demigods are naturally a bit faster than humans. but like… he can move faster than bullets?
i guess i just wasn’t expecting perseus to go all spider-man on me, that’s all

Okay but like, how were Jerry, Gracie, and Yan claimed in Tower of Nero. Because it's implied they'd already been established as Apollo kids, but Apollo wasn't really available to claim them.

Today on the list of "good stuff that happened": I got to tell my brother about how Percy Jackson in the Son of Neptune is absolutely insane and spends basically the whole book just making the Romans go "?!"
Highlights include exploded water cannons during war games, showing up carrying a goddes and tearing apart furies with a whirlpool, mouthing off to Mars, third-wheeling/babysitting the precious young smoll inexperienced beans that are Frazel, willingly drinking Maybe Poison, and generally breaking a lot of things by Fighting Like a Greek. Continued to explain that the best part about the multiple perspectives in these books is this:
Percy: I'm a loser, lol! I have no idea what I'm doing, also everyone is cooler than me and I'd die for them! Also Annabeth is cute when she's threatening people with a knife.
Annabeth: *while planning 6 steps ahead* Percy is an idiot. Dear gods I love him so much. Such a wonderful idiot.
Literally everyone else: Percy is (one of) the most powerful demigod(s) I've ever heard of, and he gives no shits about any rules anymore. This man is scary and dangerous and I am so glad he's on my side. Annabeth is a terrifying force to behold and I can't keep up with her. I am unsure if them being so in love with each other makes it better or worse. If they ever turn evil, we are so fucked.

Not to be correct but Rick Riordan's greatest crime was making Percy and Annabeth's grey streaks fade.

He's just kind of longing for, I think, a real relationship. [...] I think he's finally having that moment where he's like, "Maybe I want something that's real."

Happy to announce that I finally settled on a gang name for "the mafia", so I can fucking finally stop calling them "the mafia":
LOS VARANOS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those are just some goons with canon appearance but holy hell we desperately need some more diversity in here......and tattoos.
The name Los Varanos (which is spanish for monitor lizards btw) is a little nod to my Atrea version of Rod. Monitor lizards are nasty fuckers and I thought it suits the gang.
I had some fun with finding cool fonts for the name. Some members 100% have one of the Fraktur fonts tattooed.

I could talk about the gang all day.

tbh anytime i think about pjotv my mind just. gets absolutely fucking boggled. the amount of shit they didnt explain. why sally stays with gabe, how adhd and dyslexia are fixtures in a demigod’s life, LUKE’S QUEST, the mist, WHY THE PACT OF THE BIG THREE EXISTS, why the gods are in america… for a show that has an ungodly amount of exposition dump they sure glossed over a lot of important plot and lore details!

Is it actually illegal for a writer to read their fan's fanfics and everything? Why would potential legal issues crop up?
It is technically not illegal, but there are legal reasons why writers avoid fanworks (and a certain amount of engaging with fans, at least mostly regarding answering questions about headcanons and such). Most of it has to do with legal protections for both the writers and the fans.
The primary reason is that if a writer interacts with a fan or fanwork where a concept or plot is discussed, and then the writer uses that concept or plot in their work (whether they had originally planned to or not prior to the conversation), there is the possibility the fan could take legal recourse claiming that their idea was stolen. This has happened before, famously with Babylon 5, which is why this concept is so notorious in fandom. This post explains it well, though please excuse op being Neil Gaiman (it's an older tumblr post).
It is also important to note that this is why it's such a bad thing that Rick and his editor openly admit to using the fan wiki instead of having a series bible like they should, and the fact that we already know that the franchise has stolen concepts from fans (and possibly even stuff like Mark Oshiro outright admitting to taking suggestions on twitter for what to include in TSATS2).
It's two-fold: if the author had planned that concept from the beginning but the fan discussed it with them, now the author can't use that without risking the fan potentially taking legal action for their idea being "stolen" (ESPECIALLY if they have proof they discussed it with the writer). If the author hadn't been initially planning it and does legitimately steal the idea, then the fan isn't being compensated appropriately for use of their ideas/work.
Especially with something like the fan wiki, where people just throw their random headcanons and concepts onto there and then they get treated as fact, you have both fans not being compensated for their work (consolidating information that Rick should have already been doing, because creating a series bible is standard practice) AND fans having their concepts stolen because the information on the wiki is treated as pre-established canon fact (which we know has already occurred, since awhile back in like early TOA-era somebody had edited Nico's wiki page to claim he had confessed to Will first, which eventually ended up canonized in TSATS most likely because of Rick and Mark using the wiki as a summary of their established relationship).

Why do Murkoff employees sometimes come in a bundle with their own personal Italian who actively makes their life worse in some way?
We got:
Jeremy Blaire & Rick "Psycho the Rapist" Trager
Dr. Easterman & Moses "No. 1 Easterman hateblog runner" Scarfiotti
Leland Coyle & Franco "Can and will kneecap cops on sight" Barbi
[Honorable mention: Jameson Lawler & Alice "I’m single-handedly making Murkoff the CIA’s problem" Avellanos]
[yes I count the PA’s as employees sue me]

Holy shit I never noticed this before but in The Rickshank Redemption, there's a fleeting second where C-137 looks angry after supposedly 'first meeting' Prime, before changing to shock.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before noticing Prime, C-137 looks sad.
Tumblr media
Once he notices Prime, C-137 has a neutral face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the shot changes, C-137 looks angry for a few frames. In the second image, it almost looks like he was in the midst of saying something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Very quickly, Rick's expression changes to the one of shock that you would expect to see from someone seeing an alternative version of themselves for the first time.
I wonder if this is part of the real memory and Rick hastily correcting it for his 'totally fabricated origin story', or if it's a moment of his real feelings towards Prime slipping through? Either way it's a really cool little detail for the show to include!

I’m patient with PJO show fans that haven’t read the books. I really am. Getting to experience the story for the first time is great and I want to encourage them to get into my favorite fandom I’ve ever been a part of.
But I’m going to lose it if I see another “Percy and Annabeth are related! 😱😱😱” post.
No they’re not go read the books 🙄
