Gentle reminder that your disability and/or chronic illness struggles are valid, even if others have it worse. It’s not like there’s one definitive Most Disabled Person In The World and they’re the only one entitled to accommodations or reactive emotions. That’s not how it works <3

comic for autism awareness month about how being a person with autism affects us as a system personally. this isn’t exhaustive and idk if the info is useful, but I’ve been working on this for days so here lol
note: these are OUR experiences. nothing else.

i think it’s interesting that uneducated people will go “how do you have that many disorders???” when talking about personality disorders. they don’t understand most people have personality disorders actually have two to three because of the high comorbidity of them all.
NPD and BPD have a 40% comorbidity rate and BPD and DPD have a 30%. like that’s pretty high in the grand scheme of things???
trauma disorders tend to come in stacks… it’s weird people don’t realize that.

autistic solangelo hcs because everything is autism
Will
only has shut downs. he used to have meltdowns as a kid but now if he’s too stressed he’ll have shut downs instead, but usually he passes this off as him being tired (nico doesn’t believe him for a second, when will is actually tired he’ll get giggly)
got autism about autism (and all comorbidities with adhd and dyslexia) and diagnoses people in his head. he’ll even put it in their medical files sometimes so when kayla or someone is talking to said person about their medical history it’s a funny shock to them.
related to the last one, even though his healing powers only work for physical injuries, Will has never been wrong about someone having a certain disorder (especially autism). like he’ll have one conversation over the phone with them and diagnose them with autism, ocd, and ptsd and be right.
sensory avoidant for the most part. which is really hard on the adhd. his brain says to touch everything in the room at least three times but his also brain says that if he touches velcro his life shall be terminated.
his special interests are medicine (duh) and horror. no one knows where the second part comes from, least of all will (and this was before he met Nico)
weirdly enough, a lot of apollo kids are autistic for some reason, like more than the normal amount. no one knows why this is, but will doesn’t really have enough time to investigate this matter more thoroughly
Nico
has a mix of shut downs and meltdowns but shut downs are more common from him. when will told nico he was autistic, suddenly a lot of things he did as a kid made a lot more sense
while nico is autistic, bianca was not, which further caused strain on their relationship (that nico blames himself for)
sensory seeking. will fall into a bush of poison ivy because funny (unfortunately he didn’t have a reaction to the ivy, will had never prayed so much to his dad for that luck in his life) so he had to stay in the infirmary for a day.
his special interests are mythomagic (omg! who could’ve guessed that!) and horror, he actually got this one from Will
didn’t realize he was autistic for a long time. not just not knowing about it or anything, but after will got really interested in it, nico still was none the fucking wiser and was like “wow autistic people struggle with eye contact more than allistic people? that must really suck, since eye contact is the mind killer” and had to have will spell it out for him.
has a stare that he calls his “autistic eyes” where he just looks at you from across the room, eyes wide, rest of his face neutral, and doesn’t blink. will usually takes this as a challenge for a no blinking contest and always fails. nico was really happy when he almost got beat when he did this to annabeth, she can go a long time with her eyes open.

A big part of ocpd is that you are too busy working/being productive than to do anything leisure or "for fun", but in my case - which I blame on the anhedonia - I don't believe I even physically could break that pattern, for the very second I choose to do something (voluntarily or otherwise), it just Becomes work.
We're going to the museum? Great, scheduled appointment, approximately 3 hours, a rough ~20€ budget for ticket + just in case the other person spontaneously wants to stop by a cafe afterwards, serves for maintaining the contact I have + to collect new small talk material. I should do something for myself? Like pick up a new hobby? Great, I'll pick one connected to a skill of value, schedule to practise that hobby every week, set myself goals of what skill level I'd like to reach by a set date, all while telling everyone I enjoy that hobby when in truth, it is just adding more weight to my already heavy workload. No? I should do something that Isn't stress-inducing? Like taking a walk or meditate? Got it. I'll schedule in an hour for simply walking through the park every two days as a required outing. It'll be of no value to me, but it'll get you off my back about me needing to take care of myself. Not that either? It should be something rewarding? Would video-games finally get you off my back? Great. I'll just plan in some time for video games instead, where I just gradually work on progress/achievements in one and swiftly discard it the second I'm done with it, since I genuinely don't derive enjoyment - merely a distraction - from that either. No? You'll just visit me sometimes instead, for us to chat without me being required to put in any form of 'work'? How unfortunate that you're assuming you're an exception, and not also a type of appointment to me that costs both effort and time. I almost don't have the heart to correct you.

lupus really is the disease of inviting people to crash your party
"ok fine lupus you can come to the party but JUST. YOU."
lupus: okay!
lupus at the party: I'm here and I brought antiphospholipid syndrome, kidney disease, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, autonomic neuropathy/dysautonomia, depression and anxiety, raynaud's phenomenon, osteoporosis, thyroid disease, sjögrens syndrome, myositis, hypertension, and about 15 others 😃

tbh it is such an adhd experience to have to respond to such rapidly changing environments and to be expected NOT to throw a massive tantrum and to go along with other people's plans, and walker actually did an amazing job of showing what toll that put on percy in the first two episodes and how heightened his emotions must be because of it. he must be so, so especially close to snapping rn and it shows with his big reactions to finding his father, being determined to be noticed, straight up refusing his quest, and (likely, later on) diving straight into saving-his-mom-mode

The neurodivergent feeling of being like "help I'm being mildly and fairly criticized over a small flaw by someone that clearly cares about me and is trying not to be mean. I think I'm gonna explode and lock myself in my room never to see the light of day again, human interaction will be my demise"

So, the thing about me having adhd is that i cannot property abstract my characters/remove details if I do not get the details. Out. First.
So, here is an incredibly detailed chart of Nico di Angelo's appearance over the years which is not just canon compliant but also very physiologically detailed and includes some of my fav headcanons.
If there are any mistakes it is because I did this whole thing from *memory* w/o googling or checking the wiki lol
Un-annotated version is under the cut. You might need to click on the image for more detail.

to be clear the level of smiling is not indicative of his trauma being gone (it's not) but rather the amount he'd smile if someone made him laugh.
Yeah you can tell I put way way too much detail into this.

the NPD, ASPD and BPD combo becomes confusing and contradictory whenever anyone leaves, leading to a variety of possible reactions and outcomes.
my ASPD doesn’t particularly care.
my BPD takes a huge hit from being abandoned and feels as though nothing will ever be happy again.
my NPD becomes annoyed because why the fuck would anyone leave me?
comorbid diagnosis’ can make things incredibly complex, so always be patient with those who are mentally unwell.
