You Took Away My Summer.

I thought you were different,

I thought we got it right,

but you took away my summer

and ran with all your might.

You used my sun to please you,

you stole my warmth, my light-

and when you robbed the rest of me,

I didn't even put up a fight…

Now, in my endless winter,

darker days and colder nights-

I try to find a spark inside me,

but there’s nothing left to ignite.

How I Heal;

I spend my days

outwitting the pain

by learning to laugh

amidst the mundane

and loving the parts of

myself I once shamed.

I yearn for your fingers

to flip through my pages

to learn all my lines

and study my phrases.

I long for your lips

to be one with my words

to merge with my story

fall in love with my verbs.

But I sit on your shelf,

you say “no guarantee”.

With you, I’m just a book

you never bother to read.

WHERE IS HERE?

Did you mean what you said when you said you would try,

or were those words just spilling out in hopes to make me quiet?

Correct me if I'm wrong but,

haven't we been here before?

There’s a familiar violence in our voices,

like we've fought this fight before.

We lose ourselves in each other and each other in ourselves…

and every time we do, we lose the hopes we might have held.

I mean, the silence in between these sheets-

it speaks a world of words.

Yet here we are, but where is here?
