Fantasy prompt:

You've come across a genie! He's a pleasant chap who gives you 5 wishes rather than the standard 3. How exciting!

Except, just as he's about to grant your deepest desires, he learns that his host Genie Inc. was acquired in a hostile takeover by FairyCorp. Per FairyCorp policy, he is incapable of granting any wishes that costs more than $10 to conjure. And, as his new boss cheerfully adds, "the best things in life aren't free!". Happiness, friendship, power, immortality, and all those other lovely immaterial things humans like to wish for cost $100 minimum to conjure up.

The genie's on your side but his hands are tied. How do you navigate the system to get what you truly want from the genie?

You've recently inherited a home that's haunted by a bitter, vengeful spirit. But you soon find that the real evil lurking there isn't supernatural at all.

I mean no disrespect by asking this, but how does one know what genres and tropes apply to a writing prompt? I was under the impression that the way (most) prompts are made to work is to serve as inspiration and leave both of those up to the writer. Even the exact same description outlining a basic plot, setting, and characters could be taken in infinite directions. Is it up to the intention of the person submitting, or estimated what seems most likely based on other existing stories with similar concepts, or something else?

I have to admit this blog is very self indulgent. When I look for writing prompts, I have to look up the genre…there are some genres I am less interested in than others. And sometimes, there are tropes I would love to write, but I don’t have the ideas for/I want to see prompts that are similar thematically.

Everyone is free to interpret the prompts however they would like. But this is just how my brain personally works, and I wanted a blog/site that could accommodate that.
