I'm always joking about Lily being perfect, but honestly, they don't always need to be the "queen, girlboss who stands for herself and knows she's better than everyone else," because that's not how people work. Let the girls be real, let the girls have flaws just like the boys. Let them say the wrong things sometimes, let them mess up. Let them be human. And let's normalize, not villainize, them just for it. When the boys show just a little development, everyone kisses their feet.

Let them be mean and angry and petty. Let them cry over things they shouldn’t care about or hold grudges for too long. Let them make bad decisions out of fear or selfishness. Let them be complicated and messy and everything that makes a character feel alive.

We celebrate male characters for being morally grey/antiheroes and for having arcs full of mistakes and redemption. Why can’t girls have the same? Why can’t they stumble and fall, and be loved anyway? Let them struggle with jealousy or insecurity. Let them hurt people and then try (imperfectly) to make it right.

And when they grow, when they learn, let it feel earned. Let their development be messy, nonlinear, and human. Let them be everything that makes a real person, not just a symbol of perfection or empowerment. Because real strength doesn’t come from being flawless—it comes from the courage to be imperfect and still keep going. That's a girlboss.

“I have good news and bad news,” James said as he carefully disinfected the wound on Sadie's forehead. “Which one do you want to hear first?”

There was silence for a few seconds, which was only interrupted by a long, deep sigh on the other end of the line.

“What have you done?”

Sadie hissed under his touch and James tried to soothe her with reassuring words and warm smiles. Evan and Barty had asked him to look after their daughter for an afternoon since they were attending an event whose atmosphere was not really recommended for children. James had not objected —he was free that day and he got on well with children, so supervising one shouldn't be necessarily difficult for him, should it?

Or so he thought until he took Sadie to the park and while buying sweets from a stall by the playground, Sadie jumped halfway down the slide onto the ground. Why? James had no idea. The girl's mind remained a mystery.

An hour before, they had been drawing in the living room. At one point Sadie had decided to put the paper away and draw on the table.

What I paint on the paper gets lost, while what I paint on the table stays there forever.

When James had gently suggested that the table would be damaged if she painted it, Sadie had responded:

What? You don't like my drawings? and Barty lets me draw wherever I want.

She had been quite convincing, but not enough to allow her to ruin Regulus' favourite piece of vintage furniture.

“I've managed to stop Sadie from painting your table.”

He heard Regulus snort.

“Congratulations. What else?”

“She might or might not have fallen off the slide and hit her forehead.”

Another sigh was audible followed by a low idiot and I can't be out of the house for a second.

“She wanted a lollipop, so–.”

“Barty is going to kill you.”

Sadie suddenly got up from the toilet seat and dropped the disinfectant bottle to the floor while running away.

“Tag, you're it!”

James stared at the liquid spilled on the tiles as he listened to the girl's loud laughter from down the stairs.

“Regulus, please, come back.”
