O to be someone's perfect offering,

To lie myself down at an altar, so willing

So well formed and rehearsed, rewritten

Thousands of times unto brilliance

In my finality.

O to survive the most pervasive sacrifice,

Of my entire self, so thoroughly practiced,

Reworked and reflected, a green tint of

Otherness where my truth used to be

In my haste to find home

I have lost sight of what it is I wished for.

With nothing, no ritual or repression

Or rotting of my being, or ruin or

Rebuilding or repurposing or restarting.

O, to be someone's perfect offering

Without having to try so hard

To be something other than what I am.

Happy New Year, everyone!! 🎆 My apologies for being gone for so long! I (unintentionally) took an almost three year sabbatical from this account because I needed to focus on my personal life, which became heavier and louder than I could have ever predicted. My debut poetry book turned 6 months old last month!! 🥺🥺 From Sugar & Strawberries To Salt & Lime took a couple years to write—life always seemed to be getting in the way, be it my school work or theater or anything else. I knew that I wanted to write and publish this opus of mine, I just couldn’t pinpoint when exactly it would be out in the world. And then when the pandemic started and summer came, I continued my work on it, determined to complete it once and for all. I completed the majority of the poems in my bedroom in Houston (typically in the middle of the night), and then officially completed the book and published it in my college dorm room in Austin. It took a long time to get to where I am now, but the journey has been worth it. Thank you to all of you who have bought the book and support my work—my dreams of being a published poet wouldn’t be a reality without you!! ☺️💙

from my window, the architecture of the foreign structure looks like a glorified beacon of hope- but it's nothing but a plastic appearance. in truth, it just reminds me i'm in a foreign city wishing to be back in the town i swore i was dying to leave.
