Maxwell so desperately, hopefully wanting to be included but trying too hard and saying the wrong thing (and his “tone. It’s about tone, Gotch.”) and just feeling so outside of a family who will never understand him for being drawn to a “fantasy” while also feeling outside of a group he was hoping and wishing would want him despite his awkwardness and lack of (their particular flavor of) whimsy.

being ace is an extraordinarily unique experience; in a world where romantic love is seen as the end goal of all goals, alienation is a very common feeling for me and im sure others like cheerio.

friends are invaluable, of course, but most friends are not ace and looking for romantic partners; knowing you will inevitably left behind one day is its own battle. and unfortunately, friendships are seen as lesser or lacking to much of larger society---it adds to the feeling of isolation!
