Unhealed Wounds Your Character Pretends Are Just “Personality Traits”
These are the things your character claims are just “how they are” but really, they’re bleeding all over everyone and calling it a vibe.
╰ They say they're "independent." Translation: They don’t trust anyone to stay. They learned early that needing people = disappointment. So now they call it “being self-sufficient” like it’s some shiny badge of honor. (Mostly to cover up how lonely they are.)
╰ They say they're "laid-back." Translation: They stopped believing their wants mattered. They'll eat anywhere. Do anything. Agree with everyone. Not because they're chill, but because the fight got beaten out of them a long time ago.
╰ They say they're "a perfectionist." Translation: They believe mistakes make them unlovable. Every typo. Every bad hair day. Every misstep feels like proof that they’re worthless. So they polish and polish and polish... until there’s nothing real left.
╰ They say they're "private." Translation: They’re terrified of being judged—or worse, pitied. Walls on walls on walls. They joke about being “mysterious” while desperately hoping no one gets close enough to see the mess behind the curtain.
╰ They say they're "ambitious." Translation: They think achieving enough will finally make the emptiness go away. If they can just get the promotion, the award, the validation—then maybe they’ll finally outrun the feeling that they’re fundamentally broken. (It never works.)
╰ They say they're "good at moving on." Translation: They’re world-class at repression. They’ll cut people out. Bury heartbreak. Pretend it never happened. And then wonder why they wake up at 3 a.m. feeling like they're suffocating.
╰ They say they're "logical." Translation: They’re terrified of their own feelings. Emotions? Messy. Dangerous. Uncontrollable. So they intellectualize everything to avoid feeling anything real. They call it rationality. (It's fear.)
╰ They say they're "loyal to a fault." Translation: They mistake abandonment for loyalty. They stay too long. Forgive too much. Invest in people who treat them like an afterthought, because they think walking away makes them "just as bad."
╰ They say they're "resilient." Translation: They don't know how to ask for help without feeling like a burden. They wear every bruise like a trophy. They survive things they should never have had to survive. And they call it strength. (But really? It's exhaustion wearing a cape.)

This isn't what I usually post here, but I have more reach on this blog and I'm assuming a decent portion of my followers here are on AO3, so I just wanted to say...
Maybe instead of donating to AO3 while they surpass their goal almost instantly, you could consider donating to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund, Khartoum Aid Kitchen, or any other charity that is helping refugees.
Palestinian Children's Relief Fund: https://www.pcrf.net/
Khartoum Aid Kitchen: https://www.khartoumaidkitchen.org/
You can support individual GoFundMe campaigns at: https://gazafunds.com/ and https://www.sudanfunds.com/
This isn't meant as a dunk on AO3 users or whatever, but I promise AO3 will be fine without your donation, and your money will have a much more important impact elsewhere. I just think it would be so, so great if any of these charities could raise even half as much money as AO3.

COMMS ARE CURRENTLY OPEN! Send in your submissions now!
ABOUT US:
Our fundraiser was created to help Siraj and his family, and on a larger scale, to bring awareness and aid to Palestinians struggling to survive. You can donate to Siraj at the link above, or check out the causes we've promoted here on the blog under the #campaigns tag.
Bahaa Majid needs funds to afford medical supplies and a wheelchair for his mother, donate here. He also has an additional fundraiser to help fund his education here.
Mai and her family need medical care for her brother and money to leave Gaza when the border opens, donate here.
Gaza Funds has an exhaustive database of active Palestinian fundraisers here.
Crips for eSims for Gaza has a donation portal here, where the money you donate will be used to pay for crucial internet connection for Palestinians. Every image, post, or fundraiser you see from Gaza is made possible by an eSim.
Gaza Soup Kitchen continues to provide invaluable food to Palestinians in need as basic staples become scarce. Donate here.
There are thousands of dedicated accounts on this site that create and continue to update lists of Palestinian fundraisers and charities that require donations. We'll be platforming these as they come up.
HOW TO COMMISSION:
STEP ONE: Choose a fundraiser for Palestinians. This can be one of the linked personal fundraisers, eSims for Gaza, or a larger charitable organization — as long as it’s for Palestine.
STEP TWO: Donate 30 Euros or more to the campaign, and keep a screenshot of your receipt. This is how you will pay for your commission when you send in your prompt.
STEP THREE: Write out your commission specifications and collect any helpful images, such as reference photos, fancasts, or character sheets (if submitting an OC) Please note that we do not accept requests for specific artists. This is in order to keep the workload equal and voluntary among our contributors.
STEP FOUR: Using your tumblr account, submit your commission info AND the screenshot of your receipt in an ask to this blog.
STEP FIVE: Once you have submitted your info, a member of the team will contact you over DMs to confirm we have received your commission.
THAT’S IT! Thanks for donating! When your commission is done, we’ll tag you in the post!

this is the worst idea ever but
magical exhaustion where whumpee falls into a month long coma after their most powerful attack yet so they wake up after a month and everyone is excited to see them because the group was struggling without them and they really missed them and everything is happy yay 🤑
until another attack on the group happens like a day later and the whumpee has to once again use the attack and falls into another coma 🤑🤑🤑
NOT THE DOUBLE COMA

Prompt: petrification
I just think it'd be interesting. I've gotten DND brained
Tumblr media
HELL YEAH!!! Light on the whump a bit, because this is a fun setting to play in:
--
One moment, Whumpee was in their battle stance, tearing through enemy after enemy, a whirlwind of pain, and the next they were frozen.
Medic is already weaving their way closer, studying their paralyzed stance. They were never trained to fight hand to hand, so ducking under hits and sprinting across the field is a natural maneuver to them. Brawn covers their retreat; Medic intercepts Whumpee's form within seconds.
"Hey--can you hear me?" they shout over the din. "Whumpee!"
"Ngh--" At second glance, they're not totally frozen. Their face is a stiff expression of panic. Their eyes flicker to theirs, frantic and wide. "Ghk--"
Medic reaches for something, anything, in their belt that could help. "It's okay, you're okay, just breathe--"
"Nn!" A panicked exclamation. "Nnng!"
The skin around their neck is fading in color, growing... stonelike. It's a vicelike stranglehold on Whumpee's throat. Maybe... they won't be able to breathe, this is--
This is petrification.
"Basilisk!" Medic hollers, and cups Whumpee's face, ignoring how it grows colder by the second. "I'll be back for you. We'll fix this, I swear."
Whumpee doesn't nod. But their eyes are resolved, even through the fear.
Medic takes a shined blade from their pocket, and nods for them. "Gonna go kill a snake, quick, yeah?"
--
vote coughing up blood in this poll, send me proof and a one word prompt, and I'll write you a drabble!

Sometimes I get whump-y dreams, and I love it so much because it gives me ideas that I probably would not have thought of otherwise.
I took a nap and dreamed about a character being magically petrified/turned to stone as they were being pushed into a lake. So, as they were desperately trying to swim up to the surface, their body was turning to stone, which caused them to sink. They were stuck at the bottom of the lake as a statue, until night fell and someone came to rescue them. After they were pulled out of the water and turned back, they were sore, stiff, and cold from being stuck like that down there for so long.
Maybe some people would count watching that happen to their favorite character as a nightmare, but in typical whump-writer fashion, I enjoyed it and was kind of giddy when I woke up, lol.

Wait here's a different color palette... I can't decide lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, this is still kind of messy and I'm not completely sure about the colors, but here's that drawing I was working on yesterday, with blood and without. I kind of want to use it as a profile picture on this blog but I wonder if it would be a bit much, lol.

I haven't left whumpblr, I just haven't been posting much. Part of it is because I've been busy with university, but I think it's also that I just didn't like the impersonal username and profile theme I had, lol. I'm trying to restart this blog by changing to a username I like more (again...) and also drawing a new profile picture.
This is just a sketch, but here's what I have so far. I'm trying to incorporate some of my favorite whump tropes. This isn't really a specific character, just one of many OC ideas I have floating around in my head, lol. The glowing purple things are supposed to be magical restraints. I'm busy with some other things right now but I'll work on it more later.

Guys I love the whump community sm, I'll post a whump prompt, and people will tag "___core" or "this is so ______ coded" or even just the name of the character. It genuinely makes me smile, because, even though I have no clue who they're talking about, because that's the beauty of human connection, people adore relating to things, and being relatable. Humans are such cute creatures dude

This links to a wheel with nearly a hundred fic tropes for plots, settings, and more. Spin it twice.
This could also work with art inspiration, but the buttons only allow for so many characters on them. And please do ramble in the tags! I'm going to have no idea what most of you are talking about, and it's going to be great.

Note
whatever "whump" is, your blog is genuinely disgusting. its sick that you enjoy this
Here’s a really good definition of whump. Somewhere on my blog there’s a block button. Use it.
Maybe don’t stick your nose in other people’s business if you don’t like it. And there’s even less of a need to shame and guilt them for it. all the same, and really politely, fuck off.

Aaand I've gotten tired of that username too. It feels too impersonal IMO. Trying to decide if I want to just go back to my old username or come up with a new one.
I'm going to be changing my username from aspens-writing-ideas to nat-1-whump. I know it might break some links and it sounds kind of weird but I wanted a username that fits my blog's theme of fantasy and d&d-inspired whump a bit better, especially since a lot of the writing inspiration I've been working on in my drafts is based on stereotypical d&d settings. (Plus I feel that aspens-writing-ideas is kind of long and clunky, lol.) I figured it would probably be best to do it sooner rather than later. Other than that, this blog's general content stays pretty much the same, although I think I might try writing slightly longer prompts instead of those lists of short prompts and probably more prompts based on specific d&d classes.

I'm so sad that nobody in my TTRPG group is into whump, because I imagine playing with other whump fans is a drastically different experience. Imagine...
GM: "Okay, your character takes 7 slashing damage, and---"
Player 1: "Ooh, ooh! Can I hide the injury from the other party members until it gets infected, forcing me to open up and be vulnerable around them?"
GM: "Oh, of course! Actually, just to make it whumpier, let's have it do 14 slash damage."
Player 1: "Yay! I clutch the wound and stifle a groan as I stumble forward, desperately gripping my sword."
Player 2: "Hehe, I really want my character to be there when yours collapses from the pain. It's gonna be so good..."
Player 3: "I'll be the tough caretaker who acts like they don't care at first but slowly reveals that they actually do! They'll be so devastated when they find out they let their friend get hurt, the guilt will eat them alive. <3"
Player 4, the only one who doesn't know what whump is: "Um, guys? I think the dragon is still, um... It's still wrecking the village. Maybe we should---"
GM: "Hold on, I wanna see where they're going with this. I need inspo for my fic."
