Navigating through unfamiliar territories can call forth hidden aspects of our personalities that are triggered by uncertainty or self-doubt. In close relationships, too, the shadow side can emerge as we let our guard down, becoming more open to attachment and various insecurities.

The shadow side is especially reactive to unresolved issues or past traumas. In certain situations that remind us of old wounds, our shadow can rise up as a protective mechanism, reflecting aspects of ourselves that we haven’t yet fully acknowledged or healed. For example, if someone has felt rejected in the past, they might respond to even mild criticism with defensiveness or avoidance, the shadow side stepping in as a means of safeguarding against past pain.

PLUTO CONJUNCTIONS
