Sometimes I do spend quite a long time "perfecting" my first draft, maybe too long. But to be fair it at least means when I do my second draft it does make it easier for me so I think it is worth spending the time to make it as good as possible the first time through.
One short story of mine that I have recently finished and want to publish soon I noticed I made a couple of small mistakes. Whether it be simply spelling or forgetting a speech mark, it's good to fix these things before your work is open to the public.
I'll speak about it more soon but it's a story very much influenced by Greek/Roman mythology but set within my own fantasy world.

I'm definitely guilty of this. Sometimes I'll literally have the document open and I'll still sit here just thinking about future chapters or even some small stories that I want to write. Though I do believe it is always good to put a lot of thought into what you do end up writing anyway, at least that's the excuse I use.
Recently I've been writing about a new underground city in my world and in short it has led me to a lot more thinking than it has actual writing. I've researched so much about volcanoes, magma and anything related to it. It's definitely fun and nice to learn all this stuff that I probably never would have found out otherwise.
It's also important to me that although it's fantasy, I still want it to make some sense.

This made me think how it really is weird what we end up researching sometimes as writers. I definitely wouldn't want some random person looking through my search history without any given context. Just to gives a few examples of my own. I have necromancy in my world so I've ended up searching various things about bodies and skeletons that I'm sure would look rather suspicious to many people. Then on a completely different note I've also researched so many musical instruments during my time writing. I have a race in my world that partially uses music to communicate and I have learnt so much about organs (the instrument not the body organs) amongst many other instruments, including some more obscure ones.
Though I must say I think it is actually one of the many benefits of being a writer, if it wern't for me writing a book then I doubt I ever would even thought to research these things. Not only that, It has also reinforced some of my other interests that I've had previously such as mythology, it basically gives me an excuse to learn more.

I get mixed up in a bit of both to be honest. I believe every good world, story or even things like games should have worldbuilding and history behind them. I think that's one of many things that made Lord of The Rings good. Admittely when it comes to worldbuilding, a lot of my world and characters, even some of the races are very much influenced by real life mythology. Some based on Roman myth but one of my favourite races in my world is actually influenced by Japanese myth. I think it's important to find a good balance between actually writing your stories and building the history behind them. I do find both enjoyable though, one of the benefits of writing is that I can make my own history.

The joke above aside, I do feel like necromancy is hugely under utilised. I feel like there is so much more potential to necromancy in fantasy than just large skeletal/zombie army and few pieces of media that at least I have seen have done different. If anyone has suggestions then do tell me, I would definitely like to know. It's one thing I'm going to do different in my book and world. Necromancy sure can be used to make large skeletal armies but I'm going to give a lot more depth and detail to it. Not just things like liches though I do think they can be a cool concept, but without writing paragraphs, I believe necromancy can technically be used as a form of healing. Also the concept of things like death knights, I think they can be developed further.

I probably put way too much thought into it but I do enjoy making a more in depth story rather than winging it. I like to actually think about the worldbuilding, make sure things actually connect and make sense. I am a big history nerd and I feel like it's the closest I can get to writing my own history.

It's weird I'm absolutely fine with chapter titles (I like titles for chapters, I know not everyone cares). But then when it comes to actually naming my book it becomes so much harder. Maybe it's because of the pressure, knowing that along with the cover, the title is one of the first things any potential reader will see.

Why are titles so hard 😭

I feel like this shouldn't be relatable but I can't help but admit that I do sometimes do this, especially more in regards to art. Writing I know that I'm going to do a second draft and edit it but when I draw something it feels more permanent for some reason.

I feel like this a lot. In a way it's a nice and a bad feeling. Nice because there is so much I want to write about. Bad because I worry if I'll get the time to write it all. Overall though I'm glad I'll be able to add to my world for the very foreseeable future.
