As AI art gets harder to clock, I feel like we are going to need to have a discussion about attribution and it's probably going to bum some people out.

Because the surest way to avoid platforming, reblogging, or encouraging AI art posting is to know where every image you share originated and that's 1) boring, tedious research and 2) extremely limiting in what you feel you can reblog. But if unattributed images never gets traction, people will start attributing their images.

I've been guilty of this in the past, but for a while now it's been my policy that if I can't verify the origin, I don't share the image. That goes for stuff like screen grabs of headlines too -- more than once I've avoided spreading misinformation by saving a post to research before I reblog, then seeing the post refuted before I've been able to verify it.

And I usually try to attribute photos I take -- case in point, the "woman with shrimp" post gets a lot of attention but not one comment about it being AI, despite it being pretty similar to something you'd get from an AI. That's because I clearly state it's in a museum and link to its catalogue page.

I'm not saying this to scold anyone -- I think yelling at the Internet to cite its sources is very much a losing game -- but because I don't see this discussed much. We're such fertile ground to be fooled by AI art because we've grown accustomed to not questioning the origins of any given image. And of course I also want to encourage both OPs to attribute their images and rebloggers to verify unattributed ones.

can you imagine living thousands of years and not remembering someone's face? probably, to a degree, that's how memory works.

but imagine living 10 years and not remembering what your mother looked like when she smiled at you, or what your brother looked like when he stole your food, or what your best friend looked like while carefully tying your friendship bracelet on.

all of those people that you love are still alive, and you can't see their faces in your head. the next time you see them will be from far away at their funeral on the picture of them next to their coffin.

and you spend as long as you can trying to memorise their face, you would spend days, weeks, even years doing it if you could, just hoping it might work.

There's this thing I've been told more than once by my therapist, and that is that younger you is someone that was very important once upon a time, but they don't know all the things you know now. Sometimes it's okay to let that young you know that they did so well but that their time has passed and it's time for them to let the reins go.

And this post reminded me of that, partly because no one sticks to their dream of becoming a knight or a princess that they had when they were 5yo, so why make yourself stick to what 20yo you wants, or 25yo, or 30yo, if that's not what you want now.

But also partly because 30 is still so young. We tend to think that reaching 30 is the beginning of the end as if we're in a dystopian YA novel where anyone over 20 is getting old and anyone over 25 is slowly but surely phased out of existence but that's just not our reality... which like, thank god! I mean, can you imagine?! Nightmare fuel, truly!

TLDR: life isn't stagnant at any point, but when we start to get to the mid-20s there's this building pressure of "I need to make something of myself otherwise I will have wasted my life." That's stupid.

We never stop developing, we never stop dreaming, we never stop meeting new people, having new ideas, etc, so why on earth do we limit ourselves and stop at 30?

From one Gen-Z to another, let’s continue to deprogram ourselves from the idea that 30 is old and you need to have your shit together before 30.

You can go back to school after age 30!

You can fall in love after age 30!

You can find a best friend after age 30!

You can find a passion after age 30!

You can find a job you love after age 30!
