~ New project in the works ~ Artwork is a channel for answering impossible questions. These altars are in my studio bedroom and in my thoughts all day long. They're growing with every news article I read and hear about the threat of losing sacred lands to new fossil fuel mines. I ride a bike instead of driving a car, and shop from bulk food sections or produce aisles to avoid purchasing plastic. I am alive, and I bow to the places which sustain undeveloped Earth - the fierce winds and weather with nowhere to hide, and the wild animals with no concept of comfort and convenience. Let us allow these places to exist. Had a wonderful time at Sunset Falls last weekend. Located in the Gifford-Pinchot (friends with Teddy Roosevelt) National Forest, I believe they were named before the trees grew tall enough to block any sunset whatsoever. I'm an artist, so one source of my waste is these empty tubes of oil paint, which are not recyclable. Hallelujah for Natural Earth Paints! Finally calling this one finished after a few more layers of thin glazing. I've tinted the background with Prussian blue and Indigo in order to bring the warmth of Kate to the foreground.
