Remember Khaliifah Marcellus Williams! A black Muslim man falsely accused. Remember that he's innocent. Remember that the governor of Missouri, mike Parson who had the opportunity to save this man's life, decided not to. Remember all but three supreme court justices decided his life wasn't worth saving either. Remember his face. Remember his Last words. And remember how fucked up this country is
Rest in peace Marcellus

A list of theories as to why Martha Wayne’s Pearls scattered Like That, despite the fact that real pearls are knotted individually on the strand to prevent Precisely That Sort Of Thing from happening [incomplete]:
One: Martha chose not to wear her real pearls to the theatre that night, as it was a night where there was no one to impress. The string snapped because the pearls were not real, and Martha died for a $100 set you could pick up at Macy’s.
Two: The Pearls, upon understanding this was a symbolic moment in at least one Wayne’s future [and two Wayne’s end], chose to disregard their quality for the sake of a Dramatic Tableau.
Three: no more then three pearls ever snapped off the strand, but to a boy watching his mother choke on her own blood, gasping his name into the suddenly silent night, three pearls was enough.
Four: an opportunistic officer slipped the pearls off Marthas neck as she was loaded into the morgue van, figuring Bruce would not have the wherewithal to miss them. The pearls were subsequently reported as lost, having probably rolled down the drain in the following chaos. Only three were ever recovered, having become stuck in the puddle of blood that was under Martha Wayne’s head.
Five: the pearls, a set Thomas Wayne picked up as an engagement gift and a promise when Wayne industries was collapsing and his fortune nonexistent, were fake, and Martha adored them far more then any of the expensive jewels he was eventually able to afford. She made a habit of wearing them on family outings. Martha died for the sentimental value of a $100 set you could pick up at Macy’s.
Six: the pearls where not real. Martha was wearing diamonds that night. Bone, when exposed to moonlight and the horrified tears of an eight year old, shines like pearls.

batman should be campy because a billionaire playboy orphan who witnessed his parents get shot in front of him, who then started dressing up as a flying rodent while fighting a clown, a lawyer, a plant lady, and some other rich guys is inherently campy. it’s silly and tragic and confusing all at once. let him be campy again plz 💔

“‘Camp’ is part of Batman’s personality. Theatricality is at the heart of his identity. Batman is a dynamic figure, wrestling with different sides of his own personality, constantly shifting between different forms and resisting any single definition. Ironically, by declaring himself as happily gay, Batman — as a cultural icon — would actually be less fascinating, less complex, less queer.”  —cultural studies professor Will Brooker in The Guardian.
like. this has BEEN a thing. him being campy and queercoded to all hell. but, unfortunately, batman’s campy nature did not fit in to the comic code authority’s Christian ideals or the new panicked ideals of the depressingly homophobic 1950s-1990s, which caused batman comics to drop in sales and, eventually, for him to shed his overall campiness and lean hardcore into a gritty, emotionless detective personality thanks to new writers. also, giving him a female love interest and making him friends with DC’s Golden Boy, the vision of the americanized dream himself, Superman, played a huge part in separating him from his true identity. this did NOT help batman comics as much as DC would’ve liked, as most were upset at his loss of his queerness or just disinterested in his change of character, and sales continued to drop. however, there was one last ditch effort to bring back batman’s campiness-and therefore his appeal-back. and that took the form of The Batman show (1966) As much praise and love as this show received, no one was surprised when got canceled after just two years. it leaned heavily into pop culture and ultimately couldn’t keep up. but, artists and writers were now trying slowly to bring back batman’s queerness, and they have been doing it ever since. this takes the form in changing his personality, to introducing his “brucie wayne” persona, to making almost every character inspired by him queer, to simply his way of speaking or the word choices he uses.
it’s just. tragic, I guess. a beloved queer idol being stripped of their identity is nothing new, especially in comics, but still breaks my heart. even though writers are trying to bring back his campiness and queerness, batman is still regarded in a homophobic manner, mostly because of his partly toxic and unaccepting fan base and the ways he has been shown in older comics, back when the writers were trying to change his character, but that’s a post of its own.
on a more positive note, it’s nice seeing his older, more campy personality and design make more appearances in newer comics! you have to look way harder, but notes of it are still there, and it’s remarkable how some writers/artists REFUSE to let that part of his character go!
anyways this is longer than I intended, but I hope you enjoyed reading

THE TRAGEDY OF BRUCE AND JASON'S RELATIONSHIP IS NOT THAT BRUCE DID NOT LOVE JASON ENOUGH ITS THAT BRUCE LOVED JASON SO MUCH THAT, NO MATTER HOW MUCH BRUCE WANTED TO KILL THE JOKER, EVEN IN THE DEPTHS OF HIS DESPAIR AND HATRED, HE KNEW THAT IF HE DID HE WOULD BE IN PART SPITTING IN THE FACE OF THE IDEALS THAT HIS SON DIED FOR AND HE COULD NOT LET HIMSELF TO DESTROY THE HEROIC LEGACY OF JASON TODD, BUT WHEN JASON RETURNED HE TOOK BRUCE'S UNDYING DEVOTION AND SWALLOWED RAGE FOR APATHY
