okay let me set the stage

an indeterminable amount of time into the future, season 16 comes out in the fall, somehow finangling itself out of the s15 finale. the main plot point being trying to get cas out of superhell. think good omens season two in that it’s more layed back and focused on character analysis and relationship building. dean is worse than we’ve ever seen him. the first 2 episodes are through the two perspectives of a kinda messed up but overall healthy if not exceedingly worried sam, and a not sober nor lucid dean very near drinking himself to death surrounded by a very large number of open books; he been trying to get cas back. jack needs to be hands off, no matter what, and the empty and billie are holding him to that, non negotiably, so it’s really up to sam and dean to fight against fate itself. eventually, we do get cas back, somehow someway. we the viewers are all on the edge of our seats when dean finally says the well awaited “cas, we need to talk about what you said back then” line, and after like literally multiple episodes of being interrupted before they can say anything, we’re waiting impatiently for him to continue. cas steps forward, and the show cuts to whatever sam is dealing with at the time. something entirely unimportant. it’s not mentioned again for the rest of the episode. everyone freaks, tumblr is breaking with the force of hundreds of posts per second, and a light shines through the chaos. the cw supernatural accounts, announcing in some vague but unmistakable way that the rest of the destiel confirmation has already been recorded, but for dramatic effect, the show will air it on november 5th. a few weeks, and a few episodes, past when the post had initially been posted. but in the few filler episodes before the big confession, dean and cas have been subtly acting differently. eyefucking each other somehow more often than usual, and much more obviously, constantly just looking at each other fondly, just more of the same “subtext” we’ve been living on already, only amplified, and with witty and annoyed but fond comments from sam. misha has been busy during these trying times, posting about airtight ndas and just making a lot of posts with quotations hinting at stuff what might happen in the big important confession episode. it finally airs, and that big talk they’d been talking up was literally just making out against deans door, and on his bed, before a fade to black. they do eventually do the big reciprocation later in the episode, laying in deans bed with that cw classic “bedsheets as low hung as we could possibly get them” shot. the confession is awkward and broken up by a whole lot of making out, and it’s clear that dean is putting into words what he’s actively figuring out about his feelings, and he tells a lot of unfunny jokes, and attempts to leave a few times, but eventually dean gets it out. it’s in this post-sex confession scene that the viewers’ guesses on why dean has spent the last few episodes cleverly hiding his neck are confirmed. hickies litter his neck, from the juncture connecting his neck to his shoulders, all the way up to behind his ear. but it’s nothing compared to the absolutely horrendous scratches on cas’s back, of which the viewers never see, only alluded to by a horrified sam, making a one off joke about whether or not dean was some kind of clawed creature. everything is good. the last episode is only a few weeks into the future, a domestic cas and dean are gently bickering in the kitchen, dean prepping food before what is apparently a “big reunion dinner” celebrating cas’s return to earth. sam and eileen are being gross and couple-y, seen dancing together in the library before time cutting to them playing footsie at the map table, surrounded by jody and donna and the girls, jack, cas and dean. everyone is alive, destiel is officially unruined and completely canon, everyone is happy, and the ending is actually good. the end.

went into the last three episodes expecting to end the series and yap on tumblr and be generally crushed and then i got slaughtered and they put my dead remains through a wood chipper.

cas died an episode before i expected him to, and i had my hands over my mouth the entire time freaking the fuck out. that was the only scene in the entire show i kept far far away from spoiling for myself, so i was reasonably unprepared for the absolutely devastating scene that played out before me. i’m gonna need to reanalyze that and read a whole bunch of fix-it’s before i can re-convince myself that dean actually loved him back. evil

FUCKING LUCIFER PRETENDING TO BE CAS AND CALLING DEAN TO LET HIM IN?? DESPICABLY EVIL

we are completely void of topics regarding cas, jack seems like the only one affected until they figure out god and he heads off to better brighter things never to be seen again. evil

the last episode, everyone seems fine, but the entire vibe was just so so off, for which i will cast the blame onto jared and jensen and all the others, because i mean it’s the last episode on a 15 year project. the end. no more. so it’s completely reasonable they’re out of wack. but why is dean so uppity? this is not entirely credited to a secretly very sad jensen, as dean is just making corny ass jokes left and right, which usually i love him for, love myself a silly man, but why can’t they grieve? sam brings it up and dean just absolutely shuts him down. which technically i know could be attributed to dean shoving it down into his “do not open” repressed trauma box, but still, at least some struggle would be nice. evil

heaven, actively grieving the loss of the roadhouse, and honestly the ending just felt hopeless for me. like it’s all over and there’s nothing we can change. mainly just because it was kinda boring. it felt like we were avoiding something, with dean just driving along and sam growing old. i felt like there was some key component missing. but hey we hinted at cas somehow not being in super mega hell so 1 point for the cas likers ig, light shining through the dark and all. still evil

the “supernatural was made possible through viewers like you” speech, panning into the everyone ever, that was really unfortunate. heartbreaking. evil

all and all, i’m a hater. because it’s two in the morning and i’m done with a series i’ve been consistently watching with my parents since october. and it ended with everyone dead and seperated. screw this. i’ll be reading fix-its until i cry myself to sleep tonight. love yall ☹️

the idea that the supernatural showrunners would

- introduce cas with the most badass entrance ever

- have him perform a very very deep and personal analysis on dean, in a gentle and kind voice staring deep into his eyes dispite the fact that dean just stabbed him

- have this arc with the winchesters of learning to feel love and affection so deeply and wholeheartedly that his superiors begin to have to rein him in

- just shove absolute mountains of sexual tension between dean and cas and have a whole lot of shoving into walls

- on this topic, have the entire “you should show me some respect” kitchen scene thing

and then have him leave the show halfway through the season, was just blatantly impossible. it was never gonna happen. in no alternate universe ever do the fans look at the performance presented to them and go “okay i’m done with him now he can leave”
