big news everyone. i have completely rebuilt my entire game design document from the ground up. both the core concept (turn-based strategy creature-collecting RPG) and the core theme (overcoming internalized ableism and fighting capitalism with the power of solidarity) remain the same, but everything else has been totally reworked and, in my opinion, improved. Persona 3 Reload’s fantastic writing and narrative design inspired me to do a huge deep dive on the art of storytelling through gameplay, and that really helped me figure out which elements of my game were really necessary to convey the ✨narrative experience✨ i’m aiming for. so i changed the lore, the setting, and pretty much the entire story except for the ending. also the out-of-combat gameplay is now a Myst 1993-style PNG-based first-person point-and-click game, because i can’t code and therefore i need to keep things simple for the time being lmao

anyway, more updates coming soon!

made this during a backpacking trip i went on this weekend. it depicts the Ultimera, a giant avian Bestia who is believed by certain religious groups to be God incarnate, descending from the Void to save humanity from destruction and bestow upon them the gift of Spark.

(For those of you who are interested: Spark is essentially this extra-dimensional substance that’s responsible for both consciousness and the stability of the universe. You can also burn it like oil to alter reality and create new pocket dimensions! Large deposits of Spark have been found deep beneath the Earth’s crust, so of course big tech corporations immediately jumped on that bandwagon and started drilling for it. Also there’s a big cult that thinks it’s sacred. It’s a whole thing lol)

(lore: this particular liminal space is a corrupted version of the Menagerie, the pocket dimension that trainers keep their Bestia in.

the Menagerie is advertised by the Vortec Corporation as “the ideal home away from home for Bestia and their trainers,” but as it turns out, this is only really true for Bestia. since Bestia are descended from creatures that were specially bred by ancient space aliens to survive long voyages between dimensions, the warped spacetime of a corrupted Menagerie is pretty easy for them to adapt to. *humans,* on the other hand… well, let’s just say that a trainer who sleeps in their Menagerie might end up never waking up.)

anyway here’s the “quick little logo sketch” after 11 hours of work total. i woke up at 5 am and could not go back to sleep because my brain had decided i Had to continue “doodling.”i think my art-making addiction is destroying my life
