Sarcasm is one of the most valuable life skills ever and it should be taught to kids from the youngest age possible. Like, there should be mandatory classes. In nursery school.

Since I can't shut up about my magical girls wip recently, a friend recced me a webcomic called The Best Thing which is, you've guessed it, about magical girls. So I started reading it, and by the second chapter I kept thinking, "this reads like something Seanan McGuire would write."
Then, at one point, my eyes dropped to the credits that were there on the while, just below the actual comic pages.
Guess what.
The writer IS Seanan McGuire.
Check out this comic, by the way, it's great.

Rules: 15 questions, 15 mutuals
The title is the rule. I was tagged by @verazelinski a little while back, and I’ve only just noticed because I’m lousy at checking my notifications. 🤦 Sorry!
1. Are you named after anyone?
No. My parents actually deliberately picked a name that, to their knowledge, was never used in the family before. They wanted to be original. :)
2. When was the last time you cried?
Several days ago. Bad break-up. All that.
3. Do you have/want kids?
Nope, and nope. I’m realistic about my abilities to be responsible for another human being.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?’
My characters do. I just take after them.
5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Their hair, for some reason.
6. What’s your eye color?
Weird brownish grey. Or greyish brown. Depends on the lighting.
7. Scary movie or happy ending?
Can’t I have both?
8. Any special talents?
I routinely go without sleep for 30-32 hours remaining functional all the time. My doctor calls it a circadian rhythm disorder; I call this my very own superpower.
9. Where were you born?
In a maternity hospital, unless there’s some cool story my parents are keeping from me.
10. What are your hobbies?
Writing, reading, tabletop roleplaying (not just D&D! the world of roleplaying games is huge), listening to lots of music and podcasts, occasionally playing videogames, cooking and inventing recipes on the spot, daydreaming (that’s a perfectly valid hobby, I insist).
11. Do you have any pets?
Yup! Two dogs and a cat.
12. What sports do you play/have you played?
Does a bit of figure skating when I was a kid count? I quit when I was about 10 years old  because it was clear I didn’t have much future with it: I sucked at jumps and all my coaches agreed it was highly unlikely that I’d ever get to jumping triples, and I was bored to tears with practicing steps and edgework which ruled out ice dancing. I still love watching figure skating sometimes, and I often went to the local rink just to skate for my own pleasure until I got a bad back problem that no longer permits me to do this.
13. How tall are you?
The metric to feet & inches converter tells me I’m about 5.8? (178 cm).
14. Favorite subject in school?
Foreign literature and languages.
15. Dream job?
If someone decided to pay me for reading books, I’d drop everything and do it, just saying.
Tagging @rising-generations @emeraldlands @nightskywriter @sam-wayward @maple-writes @staring-at-the-wilderness @alittlegoblinwrites @wildwildwhat @cmfoster97 @starlitesymphony @siarven @raevenlywrites @fire-bear @autumn-has-my-soul @it-is-shadowing Zero pressure at all!

A lot of people use humor as a defense mechanism. Not me. I'm happy to report I use it as an offense mechanism only.
aka the first words the MC of my new WIP says in the first scene I've written today. I feel she's gonna be fun to write about.

The more I delve into worldbuilding for my new WIP, the more excited I am about actually starting on writing it soon. I’m not 100% sure if it’s as fresh and original as it seems to me now, but it does’t really matter that much, I guess? This year, I’m determined to just have fun writing, and this one is definitely going to be fun.
Besides, how many novels in the ‘magical girl’ genre are there, anyway?

The sheer amount of D&D games. The sheer amount of fictional life-or-death situations. The sheer amount of desperate plans I’ve come up with to save my party from a TPK.
And I’m still frequently at a loss what to do with my own life.

Oh for fuck’s sake. WHY DOES THIS NEED TO BE HAPPENING. I’ve been backing up stuff on google docs for ages, and it’s also been the best tool to get comments & light edits from beta readers.
Does anyone know of a good alternative? Tell me about it? Please?
Attention fanfic writers: If you use Google Docs to write/store/back-up your fics, you might want to download anything you don’t already have backed up elsewhere. Google is apparently invading and deleting people’s personal drive content thanks to the FOSTA/SESTA bill that recently passed through Congress. Essentially, it criminalizes ANY platform where sexual content could be placed.
It may also be worth making sure you have offline back-ups of any and all fics you have posted here on Tumblr and on AO3, in case Yahoo get antsy (they’ve been cracking down on the porn bot tumblrs already) and OTW face a legal challenge to take down AO3. I’m hoping that’s not the case - but I was on LiveJournal during Strikethrough in 2007 and I remember the way that whole communities as well as individual LJ accounts were deleted and purged; it was instrumental in the founding of AO3 in the first place. That was a widespread purge of fanfic writers and communities, LGBT+ communities and writers and more, all due to legal threats that SixApart, the company that owned and hosted LiveJournal, received due to allegedly hosting paedophile content. After Strikethrough was over and LJ admitted they’d gone OTT, there were a number of communities and accounts that didn’t get reinstated. I’ve always been quite careful not to have my Tumblr flagged up as NSFW in part because of that. Given the number of Facebook accounts that get temporary or permanent suspensions thanks to malicious false reports, I have very little confidence that Tumblr’s staff won’t make mistakes.
I’m not sure what this means for collaborative fics; but Google Docs probably aren’t a safe platform for that anymore.

Weird confession: I consider all stories that have stuff like mind sharing/mental links to be horror, no matter what genre they’re marketed under.
I don’t mean controlled telepathy where the characters consciously decide what kind of thoughts they’re going to share with each other and at least know of ways to protect themselves against mental attacks and attempts to read anything other than their very surface thoughts without their consent. That’s only occasionally creepy.
I mean situations where minds are shared completely, where one character can learn everything about another one via some kind of physic link, and especially where this sort of thing is considered to be normal.
Even thinking about this kind of privacy violation seriously scares me. That’s not to say I necessarily mind that: sometimes I want to be creeped out by a book. That’s when I read horror.
Or stories with mental links.

Whenever I hear things like “this book is implausible, why would there be so many lgbtq characters in one space/group of friends, that sort of thing doesn’t happen in real life, the author obviously only wrote it this way for diversity points,” I look at my group of closest friends.
You know, only the people that I keep in touch with daily or nearly daily.
There are seven of us and there’s not a single person in this group who’s both cis and hetero.
Over a half of us are in fact are neither.
I guess we’re really implausible and some higher power only made us friends for diversity reasons. 🤷 Thanks, higher power! I love my friends!
