I'm still BLOWN away at how much of a coincidence it was that I went for an interview at JK comic book school ... idk around 2009, i took my portfolio with a comic i made of Robin vs. Robin fighting each other on gotham rooftops only to have batman interrupt and force them to stop. To then, months later, read Red Robin #14 on the stands and see a very similar fight. 😂 I guess my line of thinking at the time was very similar to what the writers were going for. Cause it never left my mind for years how similar it was. I was very, very young at the time, so I had a range of emotions but mostly confusion (and ok, maybe a hint of anger because I avoided Red Robin and Tim). These days, I suppose I was just in tune with them. And maybe I needed a bit more confidence in my ideas since professionals had similar ones. It took me years to appreciate tim as a character and sit down and finally enjoy Red Robin.

But look, Im only thinking about this because I lost a bid to buy all the Red Robin issues. I hate u random person who made it go all the way to 132 dollars. Yesterday, it was 46 dollars. U dick.

Do you love JayTim? Do you also enjoy word play? Puns? Crying in frustration because English has way too many words that are spelled exactly the same but mean different things? Then we have an event for you!

Welcome to JayTim Week 2024: Double Entendres!

This year, the event will run from June 23 to June 29. To shake things up a little bit, instead of asking for submissions, the mods have carefully curated a list of words that have all sorts of meanings, depending on the way you read them.

You can use any single meaning in your work(s) or, if you're feeling inspired, as many as you think you can fit! As the creator, it's entirely up to you how much or little you want to play on words.

This weekend I decided to read Tim Drake: Robin or whatever it's called because I wanted to see what Tim was up to. I dont particularly like new comics. Ok no, im being too kind. I stopped reading comics all together because I hate them. I only read new earth bby. Granted, New Earth comics have their flaws, I just feel there is better chance to run into good writing as opposed to current comics where I have to wonder how people get away with what they publish. But that's besides the point.

Or perhaps, it's adjacent. I digress.

So I read the comic. All ten issues. Perhaps, I was feeling generous or particularly masochistic. And I have to say: I absolutely hated it.

I know, big surprise.

I don't like Bernard. I knew he was a stale cardboard cut out the moment I read the original special where he made his reappearance. Im not even going to talk about how he used to be, who he is now is just boring. He's such a typical love interest - so safe and without risk nor real flaws. The issue with his internal dialogue was so...amateurish. all the cooking mentions, what actually happens in the issue was so ridiculous.

Im not gonna mention the art in the first issues, everyone knows it was...art. it was some kinda art. But art nonetheless.

Tim was written like such a dumbass, its a SHOCK to me he was ever referred to as detective by Ra's. Lol. And look I know Tim can be stupid. But he was so baffingly stupid, I even felt insulted for his stale saltine of a boyfriend when he assumed Bernard had to be even stupider than him.

That issue at the restaurant, i couldn't fathom how tim could come up with such excuses to run away. Not only that, he runs away during moments that are pretty crucial to his relationship. Like, if bernard was as stupid as Tim thinks he is, he would have broken up with him because hes never there. But now that we know Bernard has at least one braincell, its the only thing that he has going for him, even if its ridiculous, he should break up with him for being so brashly looked down on. The dude has no self respect.

I feel there is some issue with the writing when it comes to depicting intelligence that is greater than your own. Its tricky, i know. But its so apparent, I just - Tim was just SO out of character it was making me angry to read it. His mistakes were so obvious and grave. And the mysteries/crimes were also so basic. I roll my eyes at every mention of sherlock holmes tbh. I didnt mind the actual villain cause im a sucker for pseudo romantic /obsessive vibes, but to make it all a sherlock/moriarty thing was just as stale as bernard.

Anyway, that's all I'll whine about. I'll erase it from my brain now. Thanks.

Jason had seen it happen multiple times in the past. He would see how people pretended to be friends with Tim, telling him how funny he was, or flattering him some way or another, only for them to later stay quiet, pull away and ‘turn’ into him.

It was almost at a cosmic level. It didn’t matter where they were, or who he was pretending to be. It would happen.

It wasn’t that Jason was always watching, but … it was pretty obvious to him.

This time it wasn’t any different. Although, if he were to be honest, it was kind of a funny scene.

Tim had been working on a case for a while at Gotham’s hospital and Caroline Hill had been back for months now. Working hard to help around, and collecting valuable information while playing the role perfectly. She even got some weird, flirty comments from male nurses and doctors.

Of course Caroline had made new friends. Connections are a must when they are working undercover. Pretending to be another pawn, to not know what is going on and go to a new friend for some gossip. A very common and normal behavior between humans. Between those people who have nothing to do with the event, but want to know what is going on anyway.

Between those new friendships though, Caroline had met a particular person. They got along immediately and seemed to have the same taste in video games. While Tim was conscious that their friendship was fake and it applied only to Caroline, it was still nice. It made the role more believable and easy to play.

Jason had heard everything about it. It made Tim wonder if he could keep the friendship after the case. Yes, it meant he would have to hang out with them as Caroline, but he was down for dressing in different clothes other than the blue scrubs with the white nurse coat. Because of Tim’s consideration of this new friendship, his boyfriend had even offered himself to go buy clothes together for that occasion. 

And after Tim had already decided to keep the friendship– it began to happen.

That said friend suddenly stopped talking to Caroline. They didn’t eat together, they didn’t share gossip or spoke about video games anymore. Everything was gone as soon as it had come.

Even if Caroline tried to start the conversation, it wasn’t working. There was a moment where Tim wondered if he had done something wrong.

But tonight, everything made sense, and Jason couldn’t help but snort when he saw it.

The hospital charity ball wasn’t that big, and he already knew the face of Caroline’s friend. And they were there, with the same hair color as Caronline, a very similar tone of voice.

“If you were to buy any of these pieces, which one would you get?” Jason– Elias asked.

“Mmm… I would go with this one.” Caroline’s friend pointed at one particular painting. “The back story is rich and the colors are nice. The artist knows how to utilise shading interestingly, too.”

Elias nodded. That was definitely Caroline’s tone of voice. And some nerdy comments, too.

“I like it. You definitely have good taste.”

“Thank you,” the friend smiled.

Elias looked back at the painting. While this was only Tim’s mission, he also knew about the case. He knew the real name of the staff in the hospital, the target and anyone involved.

“What’s your name? If you don’t mind me asking. I would like to know the name of the only person here who has good taste– other than me, of course.” 

“Madeline.” 

Elias couldn’t help but grin. 

Of course it was Madeline.

You need to stop making these Jaytim drawings. My heart can't take it. I feel like a little piece of my soul ascended when you posted that picture of Tim and Jason holding him against the wall, the height difference. Chiefs kiss. Please draw more of that, it made my day!

HAHA Thank you. Yeah, I definitely will! I loveeee height difference with Jaytim so you can expect more of that. I also like to do variations of the titans tower scene cause that scene had no right being that sensual.
