About the Calendar Wheel
The image on this post is the calendar I made for 2025, based on my location in Boorloo (so-called Perth, Western Australia), on Wadjuk Noongar boodjar.
From the centre, outwards, you'll see:
The 6 Noongar seasons
The 8 seasonal festivals (I've used the common names for the cross-quarters, since I'll probably use this on my business socials)
The 12 months of the year
The 52-ish weeks of the year
The 365 days of the year
The new, full, and quarter moons for 2025
Depending where in the world you're from, you might also notice some things look a little different than you expect...
The wheel is arranged Southern Hemisphere sunwise. Because the sun skewing towards the equator at midday take it to the north, the sun's path over the course of each day appears to move counter-clockwise (because clocks were made based off northern hemisphere sundials).
The quarter-moon icons seem inverted, because we're viewing the moon from a different vantage point. Southern hemisphere moon phases look like:
🌘🌗🌖🌕🌔🌓🌒
Likewise some dates might seem a little off - Astrological events occur at the same instant, regardless of where in the world we are, but how we mark that instant on our calendar will depend on what timezone we're located in (and which side of midnight that timezone places us).
I'm located ~12hrs ahead of the Eastern United States, so a lot of the events above might be the date before for folks in earlier timezones (likewise for folks in Eastern Australia and New Zealand, a handful of events might be the date after if they're in the early a.m.)

Good Practices for Grieving Witches
Grief sucks. It’s weird, it’s exhausting, and it never looks the way you expect. One minute, you’re crying into your tea, and the next, you’re furious at the universe. It could be anticipatory grief (I see you), grief over death, grief over a society we're losing, or anything else. Someone/something doesn't have to die for you to grieve. If you're a witch dealing with grief (or just a person, honestly), here are some things that might help:
🔮 For the “I have no energy” grief – Light a candle. That’s it. No elaborate rituals, no full moon graveyard walks. Just light a candle, maybe whisper their name, and let that be enough. If even that’s too much? Sleep. Spirits know how to wait.
🔥 For the “I’m so fucking mad” grief – Channel it. Burn shit (safely). Scream at the sky. Write down every angry thought, then tear it up or toss it into running water. Grief is messy, and magic doesn’t have to be polite.
🌿 For the “I just wanna feel close to them” grief – Make a little spot for them, if that feels right. A photo, a trinket, their favorite snack. Talk to them, even if it feels weird. Signs can be subtle, but sometimes they’re loud as hell.
🌊 For the “everything hurts and I need comfort” grief – Water is your best friend. Drink it, bathe in it, cry in it, leave an offering in it. Emotions move like water—let them flow instead of bottling them up.
Grief is a long, stupid road, but you’re walking it. However you get through it—whether you’re lighting a candle, throwing hands at the sky, or just taking a deep breath—it’s enough.

Segregation Amongst Witches: Does It Exist?
When people think of witchcraft, they often envision a vast, interconnected spiritual community—one where practitioners of all backgrounds unite under a shared reverence for magic, nature, and the unseen. But is that really the case? Or does segregation, both subtle and overt, exist within the world of witches?
The reality is that, like any other spiritual or religious community, witchcraft is not immune to divisions. Whether based on race, culture, tradition, lineage, or even personal ideology, segregation among witches does exist. However, the reasons for it—and its impact—are complex.
Let’s explore the ways in which witchcraft communities can be divided, why these divisions occur, and whether unity is truly possible.
1. Historical and Cultural Divides in Witchcraft
Witchcraft Is Not One-Size-Fits-All
Witchcraft exists across cultures, each with its own unique traditions, beliefs, and practices. Some of these traditions have deep historical and ancestral roots, while others have emerged through modern spirituality. Because of this, some witches align themselves strictly with their cultural practices, often rejecting outside influences.
For example:
• African Traditional Religions (ATR) vs. Western Occultism: Practitioners of African and diasporic spiritual systems (such as Hoodoo, Vodou, Ifá, or Santería) often do not identify with the word “witch” and may feel separated from mainstream witchcraft communities that lean heavily on Wiccan or European occult influences.
• Closed vs. Open Practices: Some spiritual traditions (such as Indigenous American practices, some African spiritual systems, and Romani magic) are considered “closed,” meaning they are reserved for those with direct cultural or ancestral ties. This often creates tension when outsiders attempt to practice them without proper lineage or training.
• The Wiccan Influence: Many mainstream representations of witchcraft are heavily influenced by Wicca, a modern Pagan religion that originated in the 20th century. Some witches feel that Wicca dominates the narrative of what witchcraft is “supposed” to look like, leaving little room for other traditions.
These cultural distinctions can sometimes lead to segregation—not necessarily out of malice, but because different communities wish to preserve their practices without dilution or appropriation.
2. Racial and Social Segregation in Witchcraft
Does Racism Exist in Witchcraft?
Unfortunately, racism exists in every spiritual space, including witchcraft. While many witches embrace inclusivity, others hold prejudices that manifest in different ways:
• Exclusion from Covens and Spiritual Groups: Some witches have reported being denied entry into certain covens or communities due to their race or cultural background.
• Erasure of Non-White Traditions: Many books, media, and educational materials focus almost exclusively on European witchcraft, while ignoring or misrepresenting magical traditions from Africa, Asia, and Indigenous cultures.
• Tokenization of BIPOC Witches: Some non-Black witches may use African diasporic practices (such as Hoodoo or Vodou) without acknowledging the history and struggles of the Black practitioners who have preserved them.
Safe Spaces for BIPOC Witches
Due to historical and ongoing discrimination, many Black, Indigenous, and other witches of color have created their own spaces. Groups like Black Witch Coven, Brujas of Instagram, and Hoodoo & Conjure communities have formed to ensure that cultural traditions are protected and that BIPOC witches have a safe space to practice and learn.
While these groups may seem like “segregation” to outsiders, they often exist out of necessity. Many BIPOC witches have faced exclusion in predominantly white witchcraft spaces, leading them to build communities where they feel seen, heard, and respected.
3. The Divide Between Traditional vs. Modern Witches
Even beyond race and culture, there’s another divide in witchcraft—one based on belief systems and how magic should be practiced.
• Traditional Witches vs. Eclectic Witches: Traditional witches often follow strict, historically rooted magical practices, while eclectic witches pull from multiple traditions to create their own path. Traditionalists sometimes criticize eclectics for being “too modern” or “too commercial.”
• Religious Witches vs. Secular Witches: Some witches view their craft as deeply spiritual, tied to deities, ancestors, and religious traditions. Others practice witchcraft as a secular tool, focusing on energy work without spiritual worship. This difference can create ideological tension.
• New Age Influences: Some witches reject New Age spirituality (such as crystal healing, manifestation culture, and “love and light” rhetoric), believing it dilutes the power and history of traditional magic.
These divides don’t always lead to hostility, but they do create separate communities that rarely cross paths.
4. Is Unity Possible? Should It Be?
With so many different beliefs, traditions, and cultural histories within witchcraft, the question arises: should the witchcraft community strive for unity, or is separation natural?
The Case for Unity:
• A more inclusive and accepting witchcraft community could foster learning, respect, and empowerment for all witches, regardless of background.
• Collaboration and shared wisdom could lead to a deeper understanding of different magical traditions.
• More unity could combat the stigmatization of witchcraft and spiritual practices on a broader scale.
The Case for Separation:
• Some traditions must remain separate to preserve their integrity and prevent cultural appropriation.
• Not all witches believe in or practice the same way—forcing unity might erase important distinctions.
• Safe spaces for marginalized witches are necessary in a world where discrimination still exists.
Perhaps the answer is not about full unity but rather respectful coexistence. Witches from different backgrounds don’t need to merge their traditions, but they can acknowledge and honor each other’s paths without conflict.
Final Thoughts: Does Segregation Among Witches Hurt or Help?
Segregation within witchcraft exists, but it isn’t always negative. Some divisions exist to protect cultural traditions, while others stem from personal beliefs about magic and spirituality. However, discrimination, exclusion, and gatekeeping do harm the community.
The most important thing any witch can do is respect the diversity within witchcraft while staying true to their own path. Whether you practice alone, in a coven, or within a cultural lineage, what truly matters is that your magic is authentic to you.
At the end of the day, witchcraft is about power, wisdom, and self-discovery. And no amount of division can take that away from you.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 🌬🌿
E A R T H 🜃
When we connect with the Earth's energy, we tap into a powerful source of vitality and strength that flows through nature. By grounding and centering ourselves, we draw on the Earth's stability to find balance and calm within. Simple practices like standing barefoot on the ground or imagining roots extending from our feet into the soil help us feel deeply connected to the Earth's energy. In tuning into this natural rhythm, we can find comfort and support, especially during times of uncertainty.
Earth Symbols: acorns, trees, stones, leafs.
───𑁍────𑁍────𑁍────𑁍──
A I R 🜁
When we connect with the Air element, we tap into the limitless potential of our mind and spirit. Practices like meditation, visualization, and breathwork help us tune into the subtle flow of Air, expanding our awareness and opening up new possibilities. Meditation, in particular, quiets the mind's chatter, allowing us to focus on our breath and find inner peace and clarity. By paying attention to the gentle rise and fall of our breath, we ground ourselves in the present moment and nurture a deep sense of mindfulness.
Air Symbols: feathers, birds, wings, sword
───𑁍────𑁍────𑁍────𑁍──
W A T E R 🜄
When we connect with the Water element, we dive deep into the flow of our emotions and intuition, letting ourselves be gently guided by the currents of our subconscious mind. To deepen this connection, spending time near water can be incredibly powerful. Whether you're sitting by a river, taking a bath, or simply drinking a glass of water with intention, you can feel the influence of Water. When we immerse ourselves in water or let its flow wash over us, we allow our emotions to flow freely and surrender to the natural rhythm of life. This opens us to the transformative energy of Water, helping us embrace our inner mysteries and move gracefully through life's changes.
Water Symbols: sea shells, water waves, dolphin, pearl
───𑁍────𑁍────𑁍────𑁍──
F I R E 🜂
When we connect with the Fire element, we tap into the fiery depths of our soul, awakening our deepest desires and aspirations. Practices like ritualized burning, candle magic, and sun gazing help us align with Fire's transformative energy, igniting the flame of our true purpose. Ritualized burning is a powerful way to work with Fire's energy. It allows us to release what no longer serves us, creating space for new growth and transformation. By writing down our fears, doubts, and limiting beliefs on paper and then burning it in a sacred fire, we symbolically free ourselves from their grip, clearing the path for fresh starts and new beginnings.
Fire symbols: fire, torchs, dragons, garnet

These are the first things I was told I should learn when I first started! It is important in any spell work or casting 🕯️💖📧
Grounding and Centering
If you haven't already, visit my visualisation lessons for the background info needed for this lesson.
Being able to ground and centre your energy is very useful in meditation and spell work. Using basic visualisation techniques, you can change and manipulate the energy you are putting out, raise your vibration, or bring yourself back to reality after spellwork. Let's go over the specifics and how to do them, but the TLDR is that grounding is connecting to the energy of the universe around you, and centering is aligning this energy with your intention.
Grounding
Grounding can be done before or after spellwork, and it depends on what feels right for you. The idea is to draw neutral energy from the earth and the universe, as the energy within ourselves can often be unstable because of our emotions or other external influences. It can also be used to send excess energy back into the earth, preventing feeling wired or unable to sleep after spellwork. Here are some easy ways to practice grounding.
Visualise tree roots spreading down from your legs, connecting you to the earth, and branches spreading up from your arms into the sky connecting you to the universe. Consider the energy of the universe being drawn into you through these roots and branches.
Consider your energy as running water, perhaps from a tap or a river. To prevent excess energy, visualise this tap being turned off, or the flow of the river being stopped.
When I practice divination or dreamwork, I sometimes visualise my third eye opening before and then closing again after to prevent using this energy constantly.
Eat something or take a shower after spellwork to quickly ground yourself.
You can try standing barefoot in the dirt or even rain as a quick and more literal way to ground.
Centering
Centering involves drawing energy inward before spellwork, allowing us to align this energy with our intention and the mentality needed to carry out magick. It prevents passing thoughts, feelings and distractions from making our energy and spellwork less effective. Where you feel your energy centering is different for everyone - it might be behind your third eye, in your heart, your stomach, or in the palms of your hands. Wherever it may be, the point is to draw this scattered energy inward. Here are some methods.
Visualise your energy fragmented around you, as shattered glass, water droplets, or whatever feels right. Consider drawing this energy towards your centre, as though you are a magnet pulling these fragmented pieces back into a whole.
As you are drawing your energy in, meditate on your intention and the end goal of your spellwork. Or why you are centering your energy - is it to have better control over the existing energy in your body, or to set an intention for the neutral energy drawn in through grounding? The aim is to have a concentration of energy with a specific intention.
Centering can be used for changing your vibration specifically for different kinds of spellwork - where a protection spell would require a different type of energy to that of cursing.
Note: Some people will use these terms interchangeably or to mean one overarching thing, and others will specify whether they mean centering or grounding as I have done here. The two practices are very similar and can overlap, so don't worry about getting them confused. The important thing is to do what feels right for your practice and whatever helps you.
