DID Resources Masterlist
happy DID awareness day! (march 5)
now more than ever it's important to educate yourself on DID. please take a minute or two out of your day to learn a bit more about it and how you can better support those who live with it.
the misinformation and stigma around DID is terrifying and i know firsthand how it can affect our ability to access proper treatment, which is why i'm so annoying about it :)
the links i feel are most important & easy to understand are in bold.

⭐ New in DID/OSDD community ⭐
Hey,
I created this post for people who are new in DID/OSDD community and want to know more.
DICTIONARY
🍒 DID (dissociative identity disorder)
A mental health condition.
🍒 you have to be traumagenic
🍒 have at least 1 alter (=you+ someone)
🍒 have amnesia
🍒 dissociation
🍒 OSDD (Other Specified Dissociative Disorders)-1A
Does not meet the full diagnostic criteria for DID. Most commonly, this describes people who have dissociative parts that are not sufficiently differentiated.
Dissociated parts are more likely to present as the same person at different ages, in different modes, different versions of the same individual.
🍒 OSDD-1B
Without amnesia between alters but with emotional amnesia.
🍒 DDNOS (dissociative disorder not otherwise specified)
Person doesn't fit the full criteria for any of the specifically identified subtypes.
🍒 ANP (apparently normal parts)
usually don’t remember the trauma and are highly avoidant of it. these parts deal with daily tasks.
(DID system may have a main ANP)
🍒 EP (emotional parts)
They handle trauma/ stress. They may be highly emotional. Often they cannot adapt to everyday life.
Individuals with DID are far more likely to have multiple apparently normal parts (ANP) and multiple emotional parts (EP) while individuals with OSDD-1 are likely to have only one ANP but multiple EP. emotional parts (EP)
🍒 DISSOCIATION
Disconnecting from thoughts, feelings, memories or sense of identity.
🍒 AMNESIA
The loss of memories.
🍒 DISSOCIATIVE AMNESIA
Person cannot remember important information about their life causes by stress, which may be caused by traumatic events.
🍒 EMOTIONAL AMNESIA
It's the inability to remember emotions associated with events.
🍒 SYSTEM
Group of alters in one body.
🍒 SUBSYSTEM
Subsystems are systems within systems.
🍒 HOST
The host is the alter that most commonly uses the body. It doesn't mean that the host identifies with the body or that he was first.
🍒 COHOST
Another alter that also often uses the body.
🍒 ALTER
term used for identities within a system( also-parts or headmates). Alters often have their roles in a system.
🍒 FICTIVE (fictional introject)
Fictives are Alters based off of fictional. character.
🍒 FACTIVE (factual introject)
Factives are Alters based off of real people.
🍒 INTORJECT
Tterm for both- fictives and factives.
🍒 FRAGMENT
May exist to hold one specific memory. They may have a single "job". Fragment can develop.
🍒 INNERWORLD
A place (or scene) where alters can interact .
Some systems don't have it.
🍒 FUSION
A point in time when two or more alternate identities experience themselves as joining together with a complete loss of subjective separateness‘.
🍒 FINAL FUSION
Final fusion means a person no longer has alters - they have one ''singular identity'', with all relevant material from other parts incorporated into their own sense of self.
🍒 INTEGRATION
This means the lowering of dissociative barriers, increased communication between parts, parts ‘sharing’ previously hidden traumatic materials and memories, and the individual with DID as a whole taking ownership of the memories, facts, feelings, and thoughts of separate alters.
🍒 SYSTEM HOPPING
‘‘System hopping is where an alter 'hops' to a separate individual outside their body.‘‘
IT DOESN'T EXIST ❗
🍒 FRONTING
When someone is here, in control of the body.
🍒 COFRONTING
When someone is here with another alter- they front together.
🍒 CO-CONSCIOUS
When one alter is fronting, and one or more alters are aware of what is going on (they can't control the body).
🍒 BLURRY
When you can't say who's fronting.
🍒 SWITCH
when fronter is changing, someone else front.
🍒 SPLITTING
When new alter arise.
🍒 POLYFRAGMENTATION
✔ Large amount of alters + fragments
✔ Splits occur often
✔ (Often with) Subsystems

You can also follow this blog for doing such a good job.
SYMPTOMS
🍒 ‘’voice’’ inside your head. Of course, you can talk to yourself in your thoughts, it’s normal, but is more like ‘’you didn’t take keys, take keys’ or ‘open the window, you are about to fall’ ‘hey, stop, you wanted to wash this cup, go back and take it’’
🍒 you don’t know your orientation/gender, you are questionging it all the time
🍒 gaps in memory
example:
someone is mad because you were talking with this person and you forgot that she/he wanted to see you
🍒 you get the impression that you can’t control what you do, say and feel
🍒 feeling unreal
🍒 feeling like you’re going to pass out
🍒 you running out of time
🍒 you don't remember when you change a place
🍒 you can't recognise faces
🍒 forgetting important personal information
🍒 dissociation ~~~
🍒 feeling like there are different people inside you
🍒 having different voice, handwriting, style, taste - preferred food
GROUNDING TECHNIQUES (MAY HELP YOU WITH DISSOCIATION)
🍒 deep breathing exercises
🍒 in for 5 seconds hold for 5 seconds out for 5 seconds
🍒 try to focus on breathing with your stomach
🍒 look around you and name 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, two things you smell, and one thing you can taste
FROM - LINK
🍒 try to describe one thing. for example a flower. it is in a pot, it has green leaves, it has roots, it is in the ground...
🍒 take something in your hand. what shape is it? is it cold or warm?
🍒 put your hand under the warm water (not hot!), take it out, then put your hand under the cold water, take it out. Repeat it several times
COMMUNCATION AND HEALTH
It's ok if you can't communicate with your alters or you can communicate few of them. It's ok if you feel like a mess because you had to do something and someone front + didn't do it.
WHAT YOU CAN DO IN THIS SITUATION TO STABILIZE YOUR LIFE?
🍒 Leave a note in your room with instruction + explanation.
🍒 Use helpful apps
You can create a discord channel for your system and write done everything you have to do 'this day'.
You can also add a bot named PluralKit to your server. It will help you with system stuff. You can choose avatar and name for each one of alters and you can switch between them.
You can use simply plural. Choose who's fronting, add comments, add important things to your calendar.
Bewet- This app will remind you to drink water. You can control what you drink day by day. You can set your weather and lifestyle, and the application will adjust the water consumption based on it.
Wysa- this friendy app is full of exercises that will allow you to work on your problems. This app will help you relax and look at your problem from a different perspective. Despression? Can help. Anaxiety? Can help. Feeling hopeless? Can help. Trauma? Just open your app and try to comfort yourself.
Forest- This app will help you with your phone addiction. Sometimes we have to do a lot of things but instead of it we are spending time on the phone, usually wasting it. We are doing something important but friends messages us or we want to check our profile. You can open this app and plant your tree! You can set this app for 25 minutes and your tree will grow during this time. Don’t touch the phone or it will stop! After this time, take a break and go back to what you did again 😊.
Daylio- This app is a simple diary on your phone. You can set a reminder so you don’t forget to complete it. Shows your humor, sleep, what you did and what you ate that day. You can also see the rest of the days and statistics so you will know which month of the year is the worst for you and you will be able to do something about it.
Remember that sometimes each of us is tired and needs rest. It doesn’t mean you’re hopeless! It means you need rest, that’s all. Focus on your health, focus on what you have influence today. Meditate, take a few deep breaths, eat something, drink water and take a warm bath. If it’s too much, okay! Life is too short to keep thinking about what you can’t do.
🍒 You can also use traditional journal LINK with explanation.
MYTHS- THE TRUTH
🍒 alters don't have super powers
🍒 the split movie is not a credible source of information or an educational move about DID
🍒 people with DID are not dangerous, they can be like anyone of us but that's all
🍒 DID/OSDD systems are traumagetic systems
🍒 if you can't remember your childhood/your trauma it doesn't mean you are not traumatized. It means YOU CAN'T REMEMBER and this is why DID exist
🍒 every type of trauma matters
🍒 just because abuser is nice for others or for you sometimes doesn't mean that what they did was ok. They are still abusers
🍒 It's ok to cut off your life toxic people, even your family
🍒 just because people saw you as one person doesn't mean they are right. When we are talking with someone we think about one integrated person, this is in our nature (human nature*)
🍒 poeple can tell you that you act different after telling them about your diagnosis. It's completely natural, the alters no longer have to pretend to be you and they feel more comfortable
🍒 intojects, fictives, factives are ALTERS.
Don't treat them like they are stupid, treat them with respect. They don't have to act like their source
🍒 system hopping doesn't exis
THERAPY
🍒 If you think you are DID/OSDD system tell it to your psychologist
🍒 It's ok to change your specialist if you think you are stuck
🍒 It's ok to ask another specialist about your diagnosis
🍒 It's not okay to work with your traumas and ask about details, psychologists currently have other methods of therapy
🍒 Therapist shoudn't only focus on the host
🍒 The final fusion is not the goal of therapy

this autism acceptance month, you need to support autistics who aren't cute. you need to support autistics who aren't friendly or bubbly or wholesome or sweet. support autistics who aren't endearing. support asynchronistic autistics. support autistics whose autism manifests as rage disorders. support autistics who aren't the harmless benign happy-flappy 'smol bean' stereotype. SUPPORT AUTISTICS WHO AREN'T CUTE.

When I say things, I mean them literally, and I hate when people say things passive aggressively or tries to sugar coat them, and it’s very difficult for me to think “sometimes it’s not passive aggressive” it’s either “everyone does this” or “no one does this” which is classic black and white thinking.
"autistic people read things too literally" yeah, maybe when we're kids. veteran autistics go through years of mistreatment and read literal statements as passive aggressive instead

Do you think special interest belongs to the autistic community alone? I've seen one other person talk about it and honestly I'm leaning towards yes. But I thought I'd bring this conversation to the attention of other autistics.
look. I‘m not going to flip out if I see someone call something a special interest when they’re not autistic. the term is also used in general academia to describe an academic area of interest…
but generally, yes. the term “special interest” is a term that was coined for the autistic community in order to describe an experience that was previously only described in deficit-based terms. the clinical term is “circumscribed interests”.
autism is also unique in the fact that our interests are both well-researched and an important component of diagnosis. all research indicates that allistic people do not tend to have the rigidity, intensity, and repetition of interests that is found in 95% of the autistic population.
allistic neurodivergent people have the term “hyperfixation”, which they are free to use instead. a hyperfixation describes a similar experience to what “special interest” describes, but allows for a broader range of disorders/experiences… so I don’t see why an allistic person would see the need to use an autistic term
#reblog#I agree#the intensity of which I feel for certain things#I love something so much it’s painful sometimes#I will avoid my special interest to avoid such strong feelings at times#my emotional irregulation is#top tier
