Yesterday on stream we have talked about Balatro, and today I won my first game!

People learning Welsh are also confused why forms and patterns they learned in class suddenly are wrong when they’re trying to practise with Duolingo at home.

Getting comments like “You have an extra space there.” or “You have a typo.” on forms that are correct and is suggesting either wrong forms or weird niche colloquial form.

Heads up to not use Duolingo or to cease using it

In December 2023 they laid off a huge percentage of their translation teams, replacing them with ai and having the remaining members review the ai translations to make sure the translations are “acceptable” (Note how they use the world acceptable and not accurate)

Andrzejki Fortune Telling!

Today, I have met with a few friends to do some fortune telling for them. They have never done fortune telling using wax, so they were eager to participate.

It is a tradition in Poland to do wax divination on the St Andrew's eve. Back in the day it was practised by unmarried women to foretell whether the coming year they would "finally" find a husband and whether there will be wealth in their future or hardship. They would melt lead and pour it through the whole at the other end of a key into a bowl with cold water. Then would hold the shapes created in front of a light to see what kind of shadow it would throw on the wall. Those shapes then would reveal their future.

Nowadays people use wax because it is cheaper and less dangerous and people of all genders and relationship status now participate in the fortune telling, as people take it less seriously and just see it as a fun thing to do.

So I have brought the things needed for the fortune telling and then all we had to do is wait.

Once enough wax was molten we were able to pour it through the key hole into the bowl of cold water I have prepared.

One of my friends had a cloud, which can either mean that one of their dreams will come true or that they spend too much time dreaming rather than living in the present. Another wax piece resembled a pad lock, which means that they are closing themselves off emotionally and cannot progress romantically.

Another friend had an angel which means that good fortune awaits them. They also had a squirrel. Forrest animals mean that they should be wary of danger.

The last friend had an elephant with its trunk pointing upwards which also means that good fortune lies in their future. Their second figurine looked like a cat which means they should be wary of certain relationships in their life.

My first symbol was a ship. This symbolises change in life and also travel in the future. That seems very fitting because I am in deed planning on moving to a different town soon as I am starting a new job, so both change and travel are definitely covered here!

My second figurine looked like a person playing a flute or any other similar instrument. Well I could not find anything in my book of fortune telling symbols that would tell me what it means, so I just hope that it means that I actually will be able to learn how to play the tin whistle one day, that is collecting dust on my shelf right now.

That concludes our small divination adventure. Does anyone else know about other traditions that involve fortune telling from any other cultures? Have you guys ever done divination or fortune telling yourselves? Tell me all about it, I am very curious!
