On Saturday, during our 4th session on Capacity Building for Lifelong Learning series, we were glad to have hosted @sheila_waswa to facilitate a session on Personal Branding. These series are programmes by @dream_rise_foundation that targets the undergraduate and fresh graduate students to equip them with adequate and necessary skill sets in preparation for the job market. With her vast experience on branding, having worked as a Consultant at Emploi, it was our pleasure to have had the right person on board, who knew her audience, the weakness young people have when applying for jobs and how to improve on them. Which skills are most critical for youth to implement the Global Goals? Creativity and Innovation exist as critical constructs towards this. In this light, upholding and displaying the ability to creatively come up with innovative ideas that would not only transform the country but also be effective, especially during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, is essential. Our very first course on Personal Development is to be launched on 21st August, 2020. Our integral areas as initiative are promoting Quality Education and forming partnerships and alliances that institute new approaches to stake these programs. Ideally, creativity is a platform that fosters critical analysis and imagination alongside availing a problem-solving synthesis,thus stipulating our roles as youths to step up our efforts towards achieving these goals despite the circumstances. Sometimes back last year, through partnership, @canopylab_edu gave @dream_rise Foundation a platform to access free online courses on various topics of interest. CanopyLAB is an elearning company based in Denmark, but with offices worldwide in Peru and Vietnam. This year, the main objective is to provide every educational institution worldwide free access to an online learning platform amidst COVID-19. But wiith 150,000 students on wait list in just 48 hours and with an expectation to reach 1 million in a week, a global volunteer program was created, to help to ensure that students in local community won’t be left behind! The volunteer program includes the following: Overturn taboos on educational technologies and digital learning, spearhead access to online learning in your community, and connect local educational institutions with CanopyLAB’s free learning platform. The person having conversation with our Cofounder, @royfordmutegi , is called David. He is the one who helped us to settle the children and as well in distributing masks and food to them. He was sharing with us challenges the kids face while on the streets. From health to sanitation to security issues. The most key issue of concern was why they were here and not with families. #Domesticviolence was the main reason. Domestic violence is a burden on numerous sectors of the social system and quietly, yet dramatically, affects the development of a nation. Batterers cost nations fortunes in terms of law enforcement, health care, lost labor and general progress in development. These costs do not only affect the present generation; what begins as an assault by one person on another, reverberates through the family and the community into the future. Many victims feel discouraged or hopeless without a solid support network advocating for them.
