So this confirms the Radiation Wars are what directly follows 1999 and that is the primary reason the planet is so screwed as of the Orokin era. I feel like you can speculate a few interesting things from this:

Perhaps this explains why the Orokin empire was largely ruled by and strongly favored scientists, because expertise in bio/engineering would be highly valuable in a nuclear hellscape and put them in a position of authority

Why the Sentients had beef with all of humanity and not just the Orokin, because it wasn't just the Orokin that ruined the planet

That the gap between 1999 and the start of the Orokin era is actually a lot shorter than originally expected

That 1999 is the earliest point the Indifference can manifest because it's the earliest point in the timeline that's directly related to the Zariman incident
