Finished this commission for a friend, I like the environmental storytelling the piece shows with the brute holding chief up in a triumphant pose but if you look, chief had a primed grenade in his hand, which I punched up with some subtle osl effects showing the glow reflecting off his armor.

Orks are always fun because they're chaotic so its a great excuse to try weird colors, weathering and freehanding.

This was a really fun goofy miniature I painted, I'm particularly proud of the teeth and tongue with the drool on his side and tongue.

First model completed post surgery, Verminlord Deciever.
Some processes used on this model; primed in black, then basecoated with some air brush colors, mostly vallejo, including somber grey and some purple ink.
Skin was dark shadow flesh and warm shadow flesh by pro acryl glazed together, the carved wounds were doomfire magenta gw contrast paint with some flow improved to get in deep, the sores and bumps on the body were dabbed in nurgle's rot gw technical paint.
Fur was a drybrush of storm vermin Fur, warpfiend grey, and neutral grey by gw and pro acryl.
In parts on the Fur I wanted to give it a look like milder and filth, so I added liquid green enamel pigment with brown, then washed in agrax earthshade, followed by a mix of newsh weathering medium by pro acryl mixed with warm brown then cleaned up with a makeup sponge, finished by drybrushijg back up with neutral grey.
The base was painted up with mordant earth base, then brown and green enamel pigments, for the toxic pool, I broke some slate tiled with a hammer and glued them around to make the edge of the pool, the pool itself is army painter disgusting slime effect, with ak interactive still water effect.
Final bit on the slate was some brown green and grey pigments to give some contrast.

Progress on the diorama, starting to block in colors.
I have trouble focusing on a single model during sessions so I usually work on multiple models at a time.
Thankfully when working on a diorama it stays in theme. The matriarch queen model I have, her spear rip is broken, it was like that when I got it out of the box, I am going to try some plasticard sculpting to rebuild it, see how thay goes.
Not sure on the raptor, may just redo it and use the airbrush but I need better practice blending without relying on an air brush.

Started working on the models for a local diorama contest.
It's a crossover piece, think the spiderman pointing meme but it's orcs from 3 franchises: Conquest, Age of Sigmar, and Warhammer 400000.

I want to take a moment to talk about something very important.
For about 10 years now I have been supporting Extra Life, a program of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
This organization uses gaming as a platform to help raise vital funds for children's hospitals, the big event is a 24 hour gaming marathon done on the first Saturday each November.
That being said, the 2024 gameday is coming up this coming Saturday, I will be streaming my gameday this Saturday while I raise money for Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital
You can watch my stream at:
twitch.tv/elementalanvilstudios
If you want to make a tax-deductible donation you can do so at this link:
During my stream, I will be doing some gameplay of various PC games I enjoy including some Diablo 4 and World of Warcraft gameplay, but will also of course do plenty of miniature painting as well with some fun incentives planned during game day!

Went out of my comfort zone today to try OSL om this model.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OSL is defined as:
Object source lighting, or OSL, refers to a light source on your miniature that may exist on the model, the base, or elsewhere to create a really dramatic lighting effect. The source may be an actual piece of your miniature like a torch, glowing plasma coils, or even a powerful magic sword!

Calling this model finished, it was a really fun model I painted as a gift for a friend.
They are super into mermaids and said they like the coloration of the blanket octopus so i tried to use that as inspiration.
My start to finish process for the mermaid was as follows:
Model was sold by @bluejayandclover3d on etsy.
Started with an air brush prime with pro acryl neutral grey, then zenithal with liquitex bolt titanium white acrylic ink.
Basecoat was somber grey by vallejo air, which was also applied by air brush.
Lower body was layered with blue grey, blue, and faded plum by pro acryl.
Torso was mostly the same but also glazed in more grey and green using vivid volt by army painter fanatic and space wolves grey contrast by citadel.
The clothes I used various purple shades by pro acryl and army painter fanatic, sadly, I cannot recall the exact colors or ratios used, same with the shoulder armor, I cann9t recall the exact colors used.
The hair was done with a base layer of vivid volt by army painter fanatic when drybrushing various other shades of yellows and greens which was the washed in Atonian camo shade by citadel.
Red spots were various shades of red using pro acryl glaze and wash medium to blend, but the vase red patches were made with liquitex red acrylic ink through an air brush.
Lips and nails were done with pro acryl coal black.
Eyes were army painter fanatic royal purple and yellow green.
The base was something I had some fun with and got really experimental with.
The sand is just a cheap bag if sand I bought from Walmart attached with mod podge.
The plant is actually an old plastic aquarium plant that I painted over to make it look more natural.
Now, what I am really proud of us the coral bits, I have a lot of extra sylvaneth bits from my age of sigmar collection and noticed while sorting my extra bits into storage that some of their bits looked close enough to coral that I decided to give it a shot.
Bonus picture is my hand, I regularly use my hand and fingers to test colors and blends.

Little side project I picked up today while at a new to me local game store, model os from Corvus Belli Warcrow, I called him battlebear.
This is a siocast resin model, first one I ever worked with, assembly was pretty simple, just a little scraping and sanding, the final assembly had some gaps, but I tool the opportunity to try gap filling with some testors contour putty.
Not the best gap filling job but i am happy with it. After priming tland adding a generous white ink pre shade it passes the test at tabletop distance where the gaps are invisible.
Likely gonna revisit this model tomorrow afternoon with fresh eyes and go over a few more mold lines and bits to smooth out.
The fresh eyes comment is pretty accurate, whole snipping a bit off this thing, it somehow launched into my face and got me in the eye, stings like nothing else but my vision isn't impacted, just a burning eye.
Products used:
Testors contour putty, pro acryl black primer, liquitex bold titanium white ink, xacto knife, various sculpting tools.

More progress on the witch for my partner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gold and silver on the dress took forever to do, then I went over the dress part to glaze in some solar variety
Worked on the pedestal and boll as well, not sure how to paint the book itself yet but like the look of the cloud the book sits on, will attempt some OSL for a glow coming from the book when finished.
Products used:
Army painter fanatic bootstrap brown, terrestrial titan
Pro Acryl white blue, royal purple, dark magenta, dark warm flesh.
Synthetic brush size 00 by game envy.
Diet mountain dew.

Work in progress on what may be my my challenging project yet, biblically accurate angel, be not afraid.
I am working on getting the eyes to be alternating colors with no pattern but no repeats either.
The central eye rings were painted with army painter speed paint 2.0 after I airbrushed them with red and yellow inks.
Crusader skin from speedpaint 2.0 was used to smooth out blending after the air brush.
The wings already various layers of drybrushing with a variety of browns, yellow, black, and greys.
Some colors and products used:
Pro Acryl Payne's Grey, Burnt Red, Blue, Mahogany, Light Grey Blue.
Army Painter Speed Paint 2.0 Crusader Skin, Noble Flesh.
Synthetic brushes from Game Envy
Kolinsky Sable brushes from Army Painter.
Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar Cherry.

Working right along with my current 3 projects for my partner and some friends.
Playing with glazing on the smoke cloud on the purple witch, based Paynes grey and glazed in white blue, both paints found in @monument_hobbies signature series for Vince Venturella, I cannot recommend that brand enough for their paints, simply the best paints in the game.
Today I also tried some of @thearmypainter speed paint 2.0 and yeah.. just incredible paints, when I first got army painter paints it was their old formulas and I about wrote them off but with the speedpaint 2.0 and fanatic lines, I recommend them in the same breath as Pro Acryl nowadays.
Been using some brushes I bought from my LGS recently, shout out to First Turn Games in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They are synthetic and kolinsjy brushes from @hobbyholder they are just... amazing. I keep mine cleaned and conditioned with Jentastic's brush goop my Monument Hobbies and they just keep on keeping on for me.
To balance out the good, disaster was barely avoided today, during my session on the mermaid, I became extremely frustrated with the torso, and some layers were peeling off so u had to go down to the primer layer, when I grabbed my air brush to lay downa new base coat.. turns out when I last used it I apparently forgot to clean it and left acrylic ink in it to dry over a few days.
This led me to having a small breakdown while trying to fix my mess, thankfully with lots of thinner, alcohol, small brushes and effort, I was able to restore my air brush. Just remember to clean your tools and station when finished.
