clark kent is so special to me. he looks normal and perfect on the outside and he’s this big gentle giant. everyone in town knows him and loves him. he’s a farm kid with loving parents. and he’s happy but maybe he doesn’t quite feel right there, like there’s something a little bit different about him. maybe he can’t quite work it out but he does know it’s there. and then he does find out and it changes his whole idea of who he is and how the world works, and he decides to be so deeply good about the whole thing. no, he’s not rich, he’s not famous, but he can do good. no, people won’t understand who or what he is, or where he came from, but he can do good. and it was never even a question for him. such an overlooked aspect of his character is that you can be different, you can be alien (literally or otherwise) to people, you can be feared and hated for the way you were made or where you came from, but you can still do good about it.

i love this honestly it fits so well narratively!! i love how lestat and louis have both been with others but they do always end up coming back to each other in the end. they acknowledge and explore the possibility of being with others, but it never matches up to what they have together.

Actually one thing I really liked was how Anne Rice sometimes subverted herself.

We all know she inexplicably thought that David had a personality and shipped him with Lestat above all others. But (surprisingly for someone as combative as Anne Rice) she was gracious in defeat.

In Memnoch the Devil (I think? Or some other book I didn't really care for?) David is being smarmy with Lestat and is all, "I see you for who you are, whereas Louis sees you as a dark god." -- the idiot, the failure, the sad unhappy Frenchman who hunts rats and not endangered tigers, with too many expectations on you.

And Rice turns that around deftly in PLROA. Louis is all, "well, I have no god now and I don't believe in the salvation of god, so you are my god -- with your love, with my belief in you."

Because seeing god in one's beloved is as close to holy as one can get, in my eyes.

idk I just like how she turned one of her Louis bashing excerpts into something that really works and makes sense in the Loustat love story.

man, when I'm writing I'm like giggling and dancing about and thinking this is the greatest shit ever. and then when I'm reading it over and editing it's like......someone should drown me in a lake for this. this is so embarrassing. I can't believe I wrote 'The shadows were dispersing' instead of 'The shadows dispersed', someone should hunt me down and kill me for this.
