Commentary: Miss Kobayashi and Tohru are my heroes. Another wonderful true to character work.

Commentary:  

I am being 100% truthful when I say this fic is on my personal list of all time favorites, and that is really saying something. The writing alone is worthy of high praise, but if you are a LWA fan, the delight is doubled.The story creates an additional history of Akko and Diana before Luna as well as adds original elements of the magical fantasy to the mix. The result is nothing short of mind blowing. This is one of those that you can re-read a hundred times and fall in love with over and over again.

“Better Than Perfect” really touches on the reality of having a loving relationship while being a normal human with imperfections and forgetfulness. It’s easy when you love someone to feel like you aren’t expressing that enough. This is one part of a series of works by the same author, check the others out. Korra’s narration in “Midnight Monologue (with Miscellaneous Muffled Mumblings)”, one of the other fics from the series, is also super cute.

Again, Call felt the urge to punch Ripley, just to have something tangible to fight. The hybrid woman said terrifying things with such a calm and reassuring lilt--it was maddening.

Footsteps sounded from outside the door, clapping through the the hallway. The door burst open with ridiculous force, and Call’s desire to fight Ripley gave way to the impulse to grab her and hold her close.

Commentary:

This is a longer work, 136k of adventure. You indeed need not be an Alien fan to appreciate the story. Sci-fi love all around, a little guts, a little blood, in depth backstories, complicated feels, kickass women in space, apocalyptic type survival situations all included.

Oh, and this gem from the author’s notes: “...I've been trying to train my uterus using a retractable leash and a bark collar...”

A Proper Kryptonian Proposal

Commentary: 

Give me unfamiliar-to-earth-culture Astra everyday. There is also an adorable Supercorp side story that involves Strawberry milk in bulk.  Be prepared for slow dancing and moments of JUST KISS ALREADY type tension. Overall, a very enjoyable read with plenty of moments to laugh.

Light Me Up (Or the one where Erin has anxiety during a power outage)

The seconds crawl by like hours and nothing changes. The darkness consumes everything and she can’t even see her own hand in front of her face. She slowly crumples to the ground, shock like white noise deadening each of her limbs until she’s barely sitting upright.

Commentary: Mental health issues are often brushed over or poorly dealt with in many of the instances they are represented in fiction. I am happy to say this is not the case for Light Me Up. Being able to see Holtzman’s be there to help Erin through her anxiety is good for the soul. If you want to read a supportive/super cute Holtz come to Erin’s rescue, sit back and enjoy this fic.

It was so honest that it made Kammie want to squeal; in an uncontrolled, Demonic way, the girl was absolutely adorable.

Commentary:

This story has such skilled writing; even the footnotes aren’t something you’d want to skim for fear of missing a glimpse into the brilliant mind of the author.

An extremely well thought out and enjoyable work with complex characters. Come for the drama, the romance or the adventure but you will find yourself sticking around because a story as good as this just can’t be ignored.

Commentary:

“swim to you” is a really gorgeous fic. The characters are very well written, both the dialogue and some of scenes are true enough to the have been pulled from canon Voltron.

I tried to make it fluffy but some angst got mixed in because, well, you know me. Angst touch instead of the Midas touch. But the ending is happy, I promise! (It was also supposed to be sexier but unfortunately my Filter wouldn’t let me.)

Shaw glared at her reflection in the mirror. It wasn’t that the dress was ill-fitting, or that her hair didn’t have a single, wavy strand out of place, or that she looked hideous. She looked good. It was just the occasion that this was for: going undercover at some fancy gala where a few of the new assets would be. Suspiciously close to her fortieth birthday. There were suspicions in the back of her head that the gala was fake and the number was too and that it all was just a cover-up for some giant party the Machine and Root had planned, even though they both knew Shaw detested parties and people and birthdays.

           “What’re you wearing a frown for?” came Root’s voice from behind her. She was leaning against the doorway, dressed in a suit this time instead of a dress, her hair done up in a professional-looking bun. She pushed herself away from it and warm hands settled on Shaw’s waist, thumbs running over the silky fabric of her black dress.

           “I dislike galas,” Shaw said. She brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes, noticing a few streaks of grey that weren’t there before. Her mother always said age was not necessarily a sign of getting older but of getting wiser, and the grey hairs that showed up only proved that you were gaining wisdom. There was temptation to pluck them but like everything else it would just grow back.

           “I know.” Root kissed her neck despite the fresh lipstick applied to her mouth. “It’s just for a little while.” The tip of her nose brushed against the shell of Shaw’s ear. “Have I ever told you I like you with your hair down?”

           Shaw leaned into the touch despite the fact that they were running a little behind schedule. “You like me no matter what state I’m in.”

           Root hummed. “I can’t help it. You’re very beautiful.”

           In her purse, Shaw’s phone vibrated once, a frantic, strong note. She fixed her hair one last time when Root pulled away, telling her, “I think your other half wants us to leave.”

Commentary:

Excellent prose and entrancing story.

Also, it’s a Mermaid AU. A Mermaid AU. Themed by a Florence + the Machine song. Need I say more?
