After hearing the news about Law taking down Doflamingo family and the SMILE factory, the waiting game begun; he could come to Zou any day now.
He will come back to your crew.
Back to you.
Before you found out the truth about Law's trip to Punk Hazard and Dressrosa, you would normally be feeling restless and giddy leading up to his return from his solo missons. Excited to berate him with questions about all the things he saw or the different battles he fought, though you mostly looked forward to just being able to spend time with him. Back to the late nights in the library, back to teasing him about his nerdy obsessions, back to holding onto everything he would do to you and hoping it was his way of telling you he secretly felt the same.
Back to you.
But now, it feels as though you are in the eye of the storm, trapped to watch everything falling apart around you and not being able to do anything about it. It made you feel stupid for thinking there was more to the relationship you had with Law. If he was that willing to let you go, there was no way he saw you as someone worth keeping around. It ripped you apart, and you don't know if you will ever be able to forgive him.
He had his tattoo'd fingers in the folds of your brain for so long, and it started to feel like the space was molded just for him; and you didn't care if that meant you were made for him, you loved the idea.
The sadness of his unreciprocated feelings was something you hid away for so long, that it began to manifest into anger. Though, you never realized how pent up you were until everything happened, now the rage feels like tar you cannot scrub off your skin. And the worst part of it all is that you have nowhere to direct it. It wasn't his fault that he didn't feel the same way; he was only your captain, you made it complicated, so you let yourself watch what you built crumble.
Back to you.
"Y/N!"
You are pulled out of your thoughts by Ikkaku screeching your name as she barged into the room you shared, panting as she held onto the door.
"He's here! Bepo found Luffy who said that he's on his way here!" She said excitedly between staggered breaths.
You froze, the deep pang in your chest making you unable to move. You wanted to scream, cry, throw up, hide, run away; you wanted to do anything but continue to drown in this amber anger that has taken over every sense in your body. You knew that if you let yourself feel excited, the next time he would disappoint you would feel ten times worse; because you would have allowed yourself to believe he could change. But he didn't even know what he did to you.
You watched Ikkaku's face turn from excited to concerned, but you could only stare at her, hoping that she could somehow tell you how to feel.
"Um, I didn't think you would freeze in excitement... but hurry up and come outside, were all going to hide in front of the hideout to surprise him!" She says quickly before closing the door behind her.
You planted your hands into the plush cushion of your mattress as you began to rise out of your bed, though every fibre of your being screamed at you to hide. You continued to mentally and physically fight with yourself as you slowly left your room to meet the rest of your crew outside. You had quickly decided to yourself to pretend that everything was okay, not wanting to attract any unwanted concern about your well being. You knew this, it is a price that a pirate needs to pay for the sake of their crew. You knew this. You can do this again.
You approached the rest of your crew with a smile, they were huddled in a circle in front of the hideout talking with each other. Excited conversation about your captains return filled the quiet air of the forest, it made you nauseous. You could feel the stares of Bepo, Penguin, and Shachi burning into the side of your face. They had tried to talk to you about what you overheard multiple times, but you brushed it off to them as something that every pirate captain had to sacrifice for their life goals. They knew you were lying, but they thankfully eventually dropped it.
You hear a sudden gasp, then everyone scrambled to hide in the bushes that surrounded you.
The faint footsteps got drowned out by the sound your pounding heart in your ears, then deeply swallowing the lump in your throat. The steps got louder and louder until it paused, then your crew began to one by one poke their heads out.
You stood up, and he was there.
The sunlight that beamed through the trees above you surrounded him, making the scene in front of you feel like a dream. Like one you are sure you had before.
He was wearing his signature blue jeans and a loose black shirt with the top few buttons undone, showing the top of his chest tattoo, his sleeves were rolled up displaying his toned forearms. In one hand, he was holding out the vivre in front of him, in the other he rested his sword on his shoulder. His head was tilted down, black hair messily poked out of the bottom of his large white hat as his golden eyes looking up from underneath the rim. A corner of his mouth lifted up as his grinned up at everyone, at his crew. The image before you looked like a painting, like a moment that an artist wanted to carefully capture and let others bask upon for centuries to come; and oh, you did.
He looked lighter, as if a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. The usual dark bags underneath his eyes had lightened, his once tense frame had loosened, his sharp and strained expression was brighter.
"Captain!" The crew cried out harmoniously, one by one coming out of the bushes to approach him.
"You came back for us!" Bepo sniffled through sobs as he jumped onto Law, holding onto him.
"I missed you so much!" He continued as he rubbed his face against his, Law smirking up at him as he accepted his fate.
"Do you want to squish him?" Shachi chimed in, crossing his arms with a smile.
Bepo froze and swiftly jumped back, "Sorry, sorry!"
Then, he looked at you, his eyes telling you something you didn't understand.
You looked back at him, frozen in place, unsure of what to say or do.
The air became tense as your crew noticed the odd exchange.
"Everyone head to the Polar Tang." Law ordered, not breaking eye contact.
"You, come with me." He spoke quickly before turning around and walking into the forest.
The crew slowly began to walk away, side eyeing you, faces covered in compassion as they disappeared.
You took a slow, deep breath before following behind him.
It feels as though you were watching his back for an eternity before he stopped in his tracks.
"Sorry, I wanted to make sure we were away from everyone." He spoke gently, as though he wasn't sure what he was doing.
He turned around to look at you, and this time, his gaze was cautious. Law looking at you as if you were fragile made your blood begin to boil.
"I-"
"Shut the hell up!" You suddenly yell before you had the time to process the words that began to spill out of your mouth.
"How dare you leave us with no intention of coming back, you coward!" You stormed up to him, invading his personal space. Balling up the collar of his shirt in your fist, you pulled him down to eye level.
"If you never came back, what did you expect the rest of us to do? You are so insufferably selfish!" You breathed heavily as your eyes bored into his, yet his expression was too calm, like he was expecting this from you. You clenched your jaw at his composed demeanour, then drew your free hand back and slapped him across the face. His neck snapped to the side, your red handprint already beginning to form on his cheek.
"You never talked to me about it, I thought I meant more than that to you." You choked out as your felt a lump begin to form in your throat, lips quivering as you felt hot tears start to stream down your face. Your shaking hand dropped your grip on his collar, landing at your side as you stared at your feet.
"I'm such an idiot." You spat at yourself, wishing the ground would swallow you whole.
What's the point of even saying all of this? None of it even mattered to him.
Law stood up straight, then turned his head to look down at you evenly. He slowly brought his hand up to your face, and started wiping the tears under your eyes.
"I was always going to come back to you." He said genuinely, a small smirk tugging the corner of his mouth.
Not back to the crew, back to you.
"I thought you had more faith in me, that stings more than my cheek." Law spoke teasingly.
Your jaw dropped as you looked up at him in disbelief; what the hell is he talking about?
"I wanted to tell you everything, but I didn't want to scare you for no reason." His hand then moved towards the back of your neck before he swiftly pulled you into him, shaking your concept of reality.
"I guess my plan didn't work, I'm sorry you were worried." His voice sounded like a song that threatened to lull you to sleep, as he wrapped both of his arms across your back, holding you tightly, like you were water that could easily slip through his grasp.
"You're confusing me." You spoke quietly into his chest, the sudden comfort of his warm embrace putting you in a trance. You didn't understand what was going on, why he was being so affectionate, why he was so apologetic, why he cared so much. It feels like he was hesitantly revealing a new side of himself to you, and you were a part of it. Every truth you made up about him began to melt away.
He carefully let go of you, then brought up his hands to cup your cheeks, raising your head to look at him; just like the scene you replayed in your head. Though this time, he slowly started to lean in closer, suddenly feeling his breath hit your face. He watched you carefully, like a dog waiting for its owner to throw the ball. He looked down at your lips, then met your eyes; holding back. You scanned his expression, closed your eyes, and felt his lips crash into yours. It was desperate, like the contact was his way of apologizing, and you accepted.
You poured the tsunami of different emotions you have felt into him, wrapping your arms around his neck to pull him deeper into you. The sudden passion emitting from Law, all the floating questions in your mind suddenly being answered, him coming back to you; for you.
In this moment, his lips were the only thing that could tie you to actuality.
He pulled back as you both caught your breath. Panting, you opened your eyes, and he was already looking at you longingly, like he didn't want to stop, the sight of his swollen lips and rose tinted cheeks made you feel weak.
"I'm sorry I didn't do this sooner, I could never find the right time."
In that moment, you finally realized that he needed to let go of a part of him, a part of his past, to be able to become truly vulnerable towards you. He felt the same, yet he held himself back when he didn't need to. You would have accepted that part of him, you already did, but it's too late for that now. It didn't matter, he came to you in his own time; when he felt ready to accept it.
You giggle, looking up at him with a smirk.
"You say sorry a lot." You return teasingly.
"Whatever it takes to make it up to you."

2 Months Prior
You were in a haze.
You were on your hands and knees, scrubbing the deck of the Polar Tang as your hands began to bleed. You could feel bruises forming across your body while your muscles ached in defiance of your intent, breath staggering as your lungs froze from the cold that numbed your skin.
Everything was so messy.
The Heart Pirates had underestimated another pirate crew that attempted to assassinate your captain for his bounty, they ended up having a variety of different devil fruits that pushed your crews strength to its limit.
The air reeked of gun powder and ash, with hints of blood being carried in the wind if you focused hard enough. And it was all you could focus on, as it was painted across everything in sight. Loud groans and moans could be heard across the submarine while Law continued to preform a multitude of different surgeries on your crew, it has been going non-stop for hours; each cry you heard felt like a punishment from god.
The anger you felt made the pain that coursed throughout your body morph into nothing, you had no right to come out of the battle this unscathed. While your crew is fighting for their lives, here you were; not even able to clean fucking blood off this fucking deck. The humiliation you felt was not enough, the shame, the regret; you hoped the pirates rose from the dead so you could kill them all over again by yourself.
You are in purgatory.
You didn't even hear the door to the Polar Tang slam open.
"Christ, Y/N! What the hell are you doing!?", you are shocked out of your coma when you hear Law yell your name, your scrubbing coming to a sudden halt.
You freeze, slowly turning around to see Law staring down at you with widened eyes and hung mouth, his face covered in horror.
He was wearing his lab coat, once white is now covered in splatters of fresh and old blood. Beads of sweat covered his forehead, his eyes were sunken in and bloodshot. He was frozen in place, chest heaving and breaths uneven.
He looked scared. Was he having a hard time in surgery? Did he need your help?
"Law." You manage to choke out, not realizing how hoarse your voice was.
"Why the hell are you out here? You're injured-" He shouts harshly, yet his voice is riddled with a hidden concern that you manage to pick up. He starts to approach you, reaching for the stethoscope that is hanging around his neck.
"Go away, Law. I'm fine, I need to finish cleaning the deck." You quickly spit back, more angrily than you had intended. He did not have time to concern himself with you. You were upright, you weren't passed out in the infirmary or crying in pain. You were absolutely useless in battle, you couldn't save your crew from a few fucking pirates. You did nothing and yet your not the one paying for your failures. You were fine.
All this blood is so messy.
The stomping thats approaching you doesn't slow down, "Do you realize how long you have been out here? You aren't thinking straight right now.", he fights back.
Before he could get any closer, you plant your hands on the deck to help you get on your feet. Your muscles scream at you as you shakily begin to stand up, slowly becoming upright to face your captain. A sharp needle-like pain shoots up your legs as you try to keep your balance, vision blurring in and out of focus.
"Why the hell are you worried about me right now? The crew is-"
"Room. Shambles."
You feel yourself fall onto a cushion before you could process what just happened. You quickly scan your surroundings to see an empty operating room, you had never realized how eerie the dimmed iridescent lights made the space feel. Dread consumed you as you look down at the floor, blood painted across the cold blue tile. Your mind returns to questions about the state of your crew; why aren't they here? Are they all alive? Why is it suddenly so quiet? The sudden warm air meeting your cold skin makes your body shake involuntarily, you don't know what to do with yourself.
You then see Law walk past you, his gloves snapping as he pulls it up his arms. He then rolls a small table beside your seat, with nothing but a large bowl of water and a cloth. He dips the cloth into the bowl and rings out the excess water, before looking down at you. He looks so exhausted it's almost too much to watch, his drooping eyes making it seem as though he is about to fall asleep standing up. He was pale, dark bags dressing his under-eyes; yet here he was trying to take care of you. It almost made you want to puke, never feeling so weak and small in your life.
"You should rest, I can clean myself-"
"Shut up and give me your arm."
Law then takes your arm, not giving you any time to respond. He then begins to clean the stained and fresh blood off your skin, his touch so gentle you could barley feel it. The warm water clashed against your frozen skin, the instant relief sending shivers down your spine, as if you were bathing in the fountain of youth.
"You were out there for hours, Y/N. What the hell were you thinking? It's the middle of winter."
Law asks with a concerned sigh, you could feel his eyes glaring at you. It made you feel small, like the sun consuming shadows as it moves across the sky. Yet, you were too embarrassed to look back at him, so you continued to watch his hand as it scrubbed your arm.
"I was completely useless in battle, so I thought I'd at least clean the deck while you were treating everyone."
You admitted quietly, lips quivering in frustration.
"I'm sorry, captain."
He pauses what he's doing, which causes you to finally look up and face him. His eyebrows were pinched, eyes squinted as he was trying to read your face.
"What are you talking about?"
Was he mocking you? Or trying to test you to see how regretful you were?
"Because of my failure, the rest of the crew is fighting for their lives right now."
You look down at your lap, jaw clenched as your free hand balled in your lap in frustration. You deserved this ridicule, and whatever punishment followed once he was done with you. You deserved to be thrown out of the crew, it's not like they would even want to face you once they were healed.
"Yet here I am, completely fine when I should be dead."
Your eyes welled up before you could attempt to contain it, hands shaking as you tried to hold yourself together. He must think I look pathetic right now, or that I'm trying to cry to gain sympathy-
"Y/N, look at me."
You feel a warm glove on your cheek gently lift up your head, causing you to blink away the tears that blurred your vision. You were met with Law looking at you tenderly, like you would break if he looked at your the wrong way. The operating light that hung above you illuminated his face, which made him look warm, like an angel that was sent down to lead you to the heavens. His cheeks were dusted with a light blush, making him appear less strained. Your breath hitched, this image being too much for you to bear. How could someone surrounded by so much darkness still be so bright?
"You are running off pure adrenaline right now, you aren't fine."
He responds softly yet matter of factly, like he was trying to ground you back to reality. As the cold began to wear off your skin, you felt the reality of your injuries. The sting of all the cuts, the ache of the bruises, the stabbing of the frostbite; you weren't fine.
"It seems like the cold mixed with your injuries sent you in a fit of mania, and apparently memory loss."
He scoffs lightheartedly, letting go of your face before turning to head to the medicine cabinet. He grabbed a tray of various medical supplies and placed it on the table beside you, then taking off his bloody gloves and throwing them to the ground.
"You fought well, and the rest of the crew isn't your responsibility. You did nothing wrong, so just try and relax, you deserve to heal too."
He walks up to you, eyes unreadable as he gently lifts his hand to hold onto the back of your neck, while the other grabbed the bottom of your arm as he lead you to lay back on the bed. He was so close, and you couldn't look away as he looked back at you. The feeling of his rough skin on the nape of your neck was electrifying, it almost didn't feel real. Everything was so hazy and confusing, you were dancing between the lines of dreams and reality; until he touched you. It felt as though he saved your from drowning in angry waters, or as if he was a siren that could control said waters. He was a mystery that you wanted to tenderly unravel, no matter how long it took, and no matter what you saw as you pulled back the layers.
Before your back met the cushion, you threw your arms around his neck. You didn't know what you were doing, maybe your brain wasn't fully working yet, but to let go of how he was making you feel. Your hands balled up the fabric on his back, face buried in his warm chest. You felt him twitch, heart beating quickly in his chest as he froze in spot. You knew he wasn't used to physical affection, making you second guess your choice. As you began to let go, you suddenly felt a strong arm drape across your back, holding you against him. You feel his shoulders begin to relax, yet his heart felt like it was going to jump out of his chest, making you blush into his white coat. You hear him chuckle, the vibration buzzing in his chest.
"What am I going to do with you?"
He asks light heartedly, like he has lost a battle he has been fighting for far too long. Suddenly, drowsiness consumed your senses as your eyes began to flicker closed, hands slowly letting go his shirt. You began to fall back into the bed, your body failing to keep you upright any longer. Your mind began to shut down, and you smiled to yourself,
"Whatever you want."
-
Present day
You hugged yourself at the memory, trying to regain an ounce of the warmth you felt in that moment.
You sat alone outside of the hideout, looking up at the stars that scattered the dark sky. The air was numbing, just like that day, which sent you down a spiral of memories. Reminiscing was all you could do after you overheard Bepo saying that Law might never return, that these memories could be all that you have left of him.
You couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, like a child that freezes in fear atop of a long slide. You couldn't yet face the reality of the situation you and your crew were in, so you tried to distract yourself with what made you feel good, and in this moment, the faint warmth that rose on your cheeks while you thought of these memories was all you could think of doing.
You suddenly heard quickened footsteps behind you, causing you to turn around, seeing Bepo slam open the door to the patio. His chest rising and falling quickly as he frantically scans around before spotting you, holding onto a newspaper."
"Y/N! He defeated Doflamingo in Dressrosa! He's coming back!"
He yells excitedly as he runs up to you, shoving the paper into your hands. Your breath hitches as you see his face beside Luffy's and Doflamingo's on the front page, the headline reading:
'Doflamingo defeated by Trafalgar Law and Strawhat Luffy's Powerful Alliance'
Your fists balled up the sides of the paper in your hands; your body burning with a sudden pent up rage.

2.6k word count
The Heart Pirates have been settled in Zou for about a week, building a secluded base in the vast forrest that surrounds the city. Although your crew mostly consists of humans, Bepo being a native to Zou allowed you to stay without any trouble. However, the animals kept close watch of your every move, still not completely trusting your intentions, being pirates and all.
Your crew acted peaceful, being away from trouble and enjoying the abundance of supplies that the habitat had to offer, though the lingering feeling of unsettlement and anxiety could be felt in the air. Your captain, Trafalgar Law, had set out to Punk Hazard to destroy the SMILE factory, which was his first action to take down Doflamingo's family. You knew your captain was strong, yet you still expected horrible news to come in the daily paper. The waiting game was taking it's toll on your crew, yet you decided to ignore discussing the topic and trust your captains plan.
It was a warm afternoon, the refreshing breeze and green scenery making it feel as though you were dreaming. Being a part of the Heart Pirates meant that you spent most of your time underwater in your crews submarine, and when you did come ashore, you were usually met with battles or other kinds of dangers. This feeling was foreign, so you were trying to soak it up as much as possible.
You were sitting on the porch, eating some grapes that you found earlier, and reading a new medical article you have been meaning to start for a while. As you're flipping to the next page, you hear someone approaching from beside you. Looking up, you see Ikkaku giving you a smile and a wave. Her curly hair is tied in a low ponytail, wearing a large sunhat and black sunglasses. Her bright orange sundress dances in the wind, making her look as though she was the epitome of summer itself.
"Ugh, its so nice to be out of those ugly boiler suits!" Ikkaku sighs as she swiftly takes a seat beside you on the porch bench. She lifts up her sunglasses to look at you, scanning your lap at the papers you were reading.
"Are you seriously reading an article right now? You should be relaxing!" She puffs, reaching to take them from your hand.
You quickly lift the papers out of her reach, rolling your eyes with a grin, "This is relaxing!"
She snickers to herself, crossing her arms with a smirk, "Captain has quite the influence on you, how cute."
You smile to yourself, thinking about all the late nights you spent with Law going over various medical books and research papers. You have always had a knack for medicine, which naturally made you a good candidate for being a part of the Heart Pirates, but it also made you a good pirate in the eyes of Law. Your shared interests helped you slowly break down the walls he meticulously paved around himself, the constant questions and eagerness to learn from the best surgeon in the New World gave you many opportunities to get closer to your captain. Over time, the discussions about treatments and surgery got more casual and playful, you found yourself hanging around him outside of the treatment room, and he would let you. Your crew would see you eating meals together, talking with each other in the library late into the night when neither of your could sleep, making fun of him without him blowing up at you, or exchanging glances when everyone was together and thought no one would notice. These occurrences caused the crew to speculate, which followed with multiple interrogations. However, they only ever asked you about your relationship with Law, being too scared of his reaction from asking him something so personal.
This caused you to see your captain in a different light; rather than a scary warlord who generously allowed you to become his crew mate due to your medical background, you saw him as someone who wanted you to be around you, because you were you. However, you understood the line was drawn at being friendly. The harsh reality ate at you, but you took it as a sacrifice that you needed to make as a pirate for the benefit of your crew; acting on feelings alone was selfish. You also accepted the fact that your captain did not have the capacity for love, and how could he? His driving force in life was to take down Doflamingo to avenge Corazon; a man who allowed his life to be taken for the sake of Law's future, and the love he had for him. You knew the affect that would have on his perception of vulnerability and trust, and that he was a long ways away from healing, even after all these years. With this being the case, you brushed off your crew when they asked questions, saying that you became friends and that was that. The weight of this longing was a lot to carry, and you wished that you were able to confide in a member of your crew, but you couldn't risk it coming back around to your captain. You knew that, but it didn't stop you from wishing.
-
A month prior
You rose out of your hammock in the women's quarters that you shared with Ikkaku, after tossing and turning for what feels like hours. Groggily, you quietly leave the room, heading towards the ships dock. Your submarine was finally above water, which meant that you were given the chance to stargaze, which you hoped would help you feel more tired.
When you open the door, you see your captains frame looking out at the water ahead of him. The stars illuminated his back, making it seem as though he was glowing, like he was from a different universe. You shake your head at the thought before Law turns to look at you, his arms crossed and eyebrows pinched. His eyes are tired, which was unfortunately a common look for him. His late night paperwork and studying even takes it's toll on a warlord. However, that didn't matter, he still looked as though he was sculpted by gods favourite star, and was sent to earth as a prize for everyone to bask upon. He wasn't in his usual attire, wearing loose grey sweatpants and a baggy blue crewneck, which you assumed is what he wore to bed. He also wasn't wearing his hat, his hair was a little disheveled, yet it framed his face and made his golden eyes shine even brighter than normal. Though Law was completely covered, it still felt like you were looking at something scandalous.
Law looked at you with concern, tilting his head before scanning your frame, "Y/N, is everything okay?" He asks in a low tone, making you assume he also just got out of bed.
You crossed your arms with a nod and light smile as you start to approach him, "I'm alright, captain. I just couldn't fall back asleep, so I thought I'd get some fresh air." You respond as you take your place beside him, leaning your arms against the docks railing, looking up at the stars.
He watches carefully as you walk up, nodding before looking back at the horizon, "Yeah, me too."
You slowly turn to look up at him, eyes squinted in a teasing suspicion, "Don't lie, I know you never fell asleep."
He snorts, turning his head looking down at you with a slight smirk, so small you wouldn't have been able to see it if he wasn't standing right next to you, yet it seemed so bright that it lit up the night sky, making the cosmos disappear. It almost made you lose your balance, you were silently grateful that the railing kept you upright.
He sarcastically rolled his eyes, before taking his hand to brush back the hair in his face, "What gave it away?"
You smirked back, trying your best to conceal your heart pounding in your chest. You leaned your head on your hand, "We're pretty similar."
You internally cringe at your words, wondering what made you think that. It was never something that crossed your mind, yet it slipped out of your mouth so casually. You were half expecting him to walk away uncomfortably, saying 'were nothing alike' before ignoring you until he forgot your words.
"Yeah, I guess so." Law said slyly, like it was a fact that he had just come to realize. Your eyes widened at his remark, not expecting him to casually relate to you in any regard. A chill shot down your spine which caused you to shiver.
"You're cold." Law states, turning to fully face you with furrowed brows, still crossing his arms as he leans on the rail with one arm.
His words made you realize what you were wearing, even though it was summer, a tank top and shorts didn't help conceal you from the nights nipping wind. You look at your arm to see it scattered in goosebumps, though it wasn't from the cold, you decided to play along to save you from the embarrassment.
"I am. I didn't even realize..." You state as you begin rubbing your arms, trying to provide your body with some warmth. Before you could realize what was happening, Law walked up behind you and wrapped you in his arms, placing his head on your shoulder. You were instantly hit with the overwhelming smell of him, the musk scent was intoxicating enough to make you feel dizzy. You would get hints of it when he would walk past you, or when you were sat beside him, but now it overtook every sense in your body. Next was the warmth, his heat swaddled you tenderly in the embrace, like waking up to the sun after a year long winter.
"You could get sick." He stated plainly, yet you could feel the vibrations of his heart pounding through your back. His breath hit your ears as he spoke, sending shivers down your neck that you could no longer blame on the cold. The Law you made up in your head would have ordered you to go back inside, not wanting to risk one of his crew mates to be out of commission with the flu. This thought shocked you back into reality, your hands moved on it's own to hold onto his arms, trying to soak up this wish that happened to meet a shooting star.
"Your warm." You say softly, feeling your face heat up. Though his arm was covered in cloth, you could feel his muscles as he held you, making you feel an overwhelming sense of safety and security.
"Yeah, because I actually wear clothes.", he scoffed teasingly.

Current
You are shaken out of your thoughts by the sound of snapping beside your ear, you quickly look over to see a concerned Ikkaku staring back at you.
"Are you okay? You completely just zoned out." She asks, brows furrowed as she scans your face intently.
You feel your heart sink in your chest as reality hits you with force, you cant afford to think about him this much. Trying to map a way to find a possibility of him feeling the same way was futile, and did no one any good. In an attempt to distract yourself, you suddenly shoot up from your seat, letting the article and grapes fall off your lap.
"Im going to get some water, would you like some?" You ask Ikkaku while tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, trying to act as normal as possible.
She gives you a questioning look, raising a brow, "Um, sure?"
Before she has the chance to question you any further, you rush inside the door and shut it behind you. You pause and take a deep breath to control your heart rate, harshly rubbing your face. Suddenly, you hear hushed voices coming from the kitchen. In curiosity, you quietly head near the entrance and hide behind the door frame, as to not be heard or seen. You quickly determine that the voices are coming from Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin. You didn't know these three as ones to keep secrets, causing you to listen into their discussion.
"He really said that? Are you sure?" You hear a hushed Shachi question frantically.
"That's what he told me... I still can't believe it." Bepo responds in a defeated tone, as if he was on the brink of tears. Thinking back, you noticed how tense Bepo has been since Law's departure, but you brushed it off as him being his first mate and longest friend.
"There's absolutely no way he would actually do that, he wouldn't just leave us." Penguin retorted.
Your blood suddenly ran cold. They had to be talking about Law.
"He said this was his life's purpose, you think he wouldn't die to achieve it?" Bepo replies, his voice cracking with each word.
You quickly piece it together, Law must have told Bepo that he was not planning to return from his fight with Doflamingo. That he would rather die trying than doing nothing; than staying here with his crew. You feel like throwing up.
"Don't you think Y/N should hear this too?" Shachi sighs, still trying to piece together what he was just told. You suddenly stiffen at your name being brought up.
"No, I'm only telling you two because we have known him the longest." Bepo argues through sniffled cries, "She would be heartbroken if she found out the truth, rather than it just being an accident."
"Bepo, don't cry!" You hear Penguin suddenly perk up, trying to comfort the mink through fake hope, "This is all just what if's, I'm sure he will come back regardless of what he said!"
"Y-yeah!" Shachi half heartedly chimes in, "He's super strong, we should trust in his abilities!"
Bepo sniffles, "But, that doesn't change the fact that he..."
"That he was still ready to abandon us.", You add, walking in the room to face the trio.
The three whip their heads around to look at you, faces covered in shock. You don't really know what to say, or what to do with yourself. You could breakdown in front of them, screaming and crying about how awful it is that your captain could abandon your crew on a suicide mission. You could run away, leave the Heart Pirates and start a new life in isolation, because being alone is better than roaming the submarines halls trying not to remember his face. It's fight or flight. Though, you can't help but freeze, staring at them, but you don't know what your waiting to happen.
"Y/N... did you hear all of that?" Bepo asks cautiously, face riddled in horror.
Without a second thought, you turn around and leave the kitchen, ignoring the three of them calling out for you to wait. Your legs take you to the girls quarters, quickly closing the door behind you and laying in your hammock. You didn't realize you were crying until you felt hot tears streaming down your face, which you angrily wiped away. Of course this is upsetting, your captain is ready to die and leave his crew behind without telling you; but why does it feel like a personal attack? Why does it feel deeper than a betrayal from a captain? You think back to the moment at the dock, when he held you so tightly like he was scared to let you go, and yet he was ready to leave you in death. Not only did he have no regard for his own life, he had none for your future together; and you didn't know what felt worse. You finally truly understood the true dynamic you shared, the dreams of a pirate ran deeper than any relationship they had with another person. You realized at last, in the harshest way possible; it didn't feel humane.
The tears continued to stream down your face, but you felt nothing.

Chapter 2: https://www.tumblr.com/fetacheeseluvr/780414561008386048/run-away-trafalgar-law-x-reader-chapter-2

-
2 Months Prior
