i’m at the point where i’ve been reading enough in a niche that the tropes/writing quirks that i liked are irking me because i’m noticing EVERYONE does it.

in the romantasy genre we really love the whole putting three adjectives in a row with hard stops. idek what ti’s called. it’s repetitive. jarring. annoying.

i’m noticing every main character is copy paste personality and usually appearance wise. it’s why i latched onto sacha torren from shadowvein because he’s written so differently! and being able to imagine poppy from FBAA as something other than brunette and skinny was refreshing as well.

don’t even get me started on predicable plots and overused tropes. we shouldn’t be treating trope lists like checklists and i blame booktok for this. try to make me feel something instead.

i’m also still really in love with the empyrean but i got so burnt out on the fanfic because… everyone sort of writes the same? i feel like it’s a mix of just people emulating the most popular style of writing in romantasy/the empyrean fandom. i’ve noticed every fandom has that problem though and it’s just hard for me to find fanfic writers who stick out with their own unique voice. if i have ever commented on your stuff i am not talking about you and in fact i’m not talking about anyone in particular so please don’t @ me T-T

rant over, school starts up soon which means i’m going to be writing again! i only write as a distraction from life and i’ve been relaxing this summer, thus no need to write. i’ve been busy mermaiding and reading by the pool :)

People like to shit on Iron Flame Riorgail, but you need to go through an Iron Flame Riorgal to get the Onyx Storm Riorgail. Love and relationships, in real life, don’t happen linearly according to your conveniences and perfectly executed out of your rule book pages. You mess up, you hide secrets, you misunderstand, miscommunicate and fuck up (in a non abusive way, of course) to get heart melting moments like the ones in Onyx Storm. Love takes effort, acknowledgement and humility. Xaden and Violet are a perfect example of healthy relationships not despite the Iron Flame miscommunication but because of it. They both were equally invested in each other and put in the effort to resolve and cross it fair and share.

i’m working my way through isoellen’s the 12 sectors omegaverse series (i have no idea how i found it but here we are) because i am looking for porn with a small helping of plot and this fit the bill (the first book anyway— and i loved the FMC of that book)

but i just finished book 2 which features a different pairing and my god we lost the fuckin plot of even the porn. like the porn wasn’t porning. how do you fuck up omegaverse porn that badly.

so the MMC is not a good guy- you’re literally introduced to him while he’s violently killing ppl. but the last MMC was the same way and he actually turned out to be a decent partner, right? protective, sweet, generally loving, and he earned sasha’s bond. but this one starts out with darre and naya bonding after basically a hookup (w some dubcon which is Fine but it gets very Not Fine later).

ok, i can go w that. a little bit of “oh my god wtf did i commit to in my horny state” and dealing w the fallout of learning how to be bonded to a stranger. cue a lot of sex and then cue the plot at around halfway thru the book. whatever the sex was pretty good.

there’s some subterfuge and twists that don’t really hit because we spent the entire time locked in a bedroom with the MCs while they’re fucking like rabbits but okay whatever. I didn’t come here for the plot (even though the worldbuilding is SO INTERESTING i wish the books had less sex or were longer)

so after book 1’s strong female lead of Sasha and Kane’s willingness to stand by his bitchy and headstrong mate, i’m expecting the same of Naya and Darre. UhHHHH WRONG?????

we get a early pregnancy Naya BEATING THE FUCK OUT OF ANOTHER PREGNANT CHICK because BITCH HAS A GUN??? and is shooting them??? and she just like goes feral and disarms her and beats the fuck outta her. YAYYY GO NAYA PUSSY POWER.
