Il sistema di istruzione in Italia è strutturato male - fin qui ci siamo quasi tutti. E' progettato per far imparare una marea di concetti a memoria ad una gamma di studenti tra i quali c'è un'alta percentuale che non impara mai niente così, che non è programmata per imparare così. Ho avuto la mia dose di delusioni personali avendo a che fare con la scuola italiana.

In questo post però voglio parlare di un fenomeno specifico. Nella società di oggi sta man mano prendendo piede una visione del mondo che demonizza il fallimento. Ora più che mai, fallire non viene più visto come un elemento necessario ed inevitabile della vita, bensì come una mancanza personale che ha conseguenze catastrofiche sul proprio presente e futuro. I professori e le scuole stanno sempre più portando avanti questo pensiero - dimenticandosi che anche loro hanno fallito, che tutti abbiamo fallito.

Da una parte ci sono i professori cattivi ed arcigni che conosciamo tutti. Se ora, dopo anni dalla fine del mio percorso liceale, qualcuno mi rivelasse che il mio vecchio prof di greco ha picchiato uno studente che non è riuscito a tradurre una versione... non sarei affatto sorpresa, ecco. Eppure la concezione fortemente negativa del fallimento non si manifesta solo così. Dall'altro lato della medaglia infatti c'è un tipo di professore che ritiene talmente orribile il fallimento che semplicemente non lascia fallire nessuno.

Mio fratello ha finito quest'anno il suo percorso liceale. Ha frequentato il liceo scientifico tradizionale. Tra pochi giorni ha la maturità. E' stato ammesso con tutte le materie più che sufficienti dopo essersi fatto un mazzo così a studiare, soprattutto negli ultimi due anni, prendendosi le sue pause e le sue batoste occasionali. Come lui una parte sostanziosa della sua classe. Eppure, come lui, come i ragazzi che magari sì avevano una o due materie sotto ma che si sono impegnati durante il corso del liceo, sono stati ammessi anche alcuni compagni che invece di impegno non ce ne hanno messo alcuno.

Questi sono ragazzi che hanno fatto quantità di assenze ai limiti del possibile, che hanno più di tre materie sotto, che hanno mancato di rispetto ai propri compagni e professori per anni. A loro è mancata un'educazione di base da parte dei genitori, che li hanno viziati e hanno spesso fatto i compiti al posto loro. Eppure anche la scuola ha il dovere di educare i ragazzi sulle conseguenze delle proprie azioni, non solo sui grandi poeti, sulla matematica e sulla scienza. E' una lezione che io ritengo ancora più importante di queste materie, che possono essere utili ma anche non, in base allo studente. Una persona che si impegna, sia che raggiunga i propri obiettivi o meno, è da premiare. Una persona che rispetta gli altri nella classe è da premiare.

Facendo passare questi ragazzi, la scuola fallisce innanzitutto nei loro confronti. Prima o poi falliamo tutti. C'è chi fallisce prima, chi dopo, chi fallisce in altri ambiti. La scuola deve essere un luogo in cui il fallimento diventa un modo per imparare - perché deve insegnare anche a tirarsi su e continuare, o a capire che magari questo non è il percorso giusto. A 50 anni non importerà a nessuno se hai fatto 5 anni di liceo o 6, o 7, o 8... ma la lezione che impara chi viene bocciato rimarrà sempre e gli insegnerà qualcosa di utile, se viene eseguita facendo capire che è un'opportunità per migliorarsi. Ora invece questi ragazzi dovranno impararla dopo, e magari falliranno in un ambito dove non c'è più questa clemenza.

Facendo passare questi ragazzi, la scuola fallisce anche nei confronti degli altri studenti. Chi ha tirato su i propri voti studiando, chi ha chiesto aiuto al professore, chi ha pagato per le ripetizioni, chi, soprattutto, ha rispettato i propri compagni senza distrarli o insultarli, cosa impara vedendo che chi invece non rispetta loro ottiene le sue stesse ricompense? Cosa capisce? Capisce che le regole, che il rispetto, che l'impegno non sono necessari. La conseguenza tanto è uguale sia che fai la cosa migliore sia che fai quella peggiore. Magari racconteranno questa storia ai figli e questi non si impegneranno, ricordando cos'è successo ai genitori.

La scuola deve essere e rimanere un luogo sicuro in cui fallire. In cui capirsi tramite i fallimenti. "Questo liceo non fa per me, meglio provare altrove." "Questa materia mi risulta difficile, ostica e poco divertente, quindi non la studierò all'università." "La vita accademica non fa per me - andrò a lavorare dopo il liceo." "Nella vita devo impegnarmi."

E soprattutto, "se fallisco non è la fine."

he also shared a lot of insight on technical issues such as tire management and team strategies in general, i just shared some of the more funny bits

This beautiful diva is the Quito Rocket frog. It lives in Ecuador, in forests, grasslands, or rivers.

The Quito Rocket frog was once quite common in this region, but now, due to habitat change and disease, it is on the verge of extinction. As of 2019, there were about 100 of these cuties left on the planet.

These frogs live near a volcano, Cotopaxi’s Summit. Recently, this volcano has awakened yet again, after many years of inactivity. This is the reason why scientists and researchers have been sent to find these frogs and bring them to safety. They are hard to find, though, so these scientists have to imitate their mating call, get a response back, and track said response.

Right now, it is thanks to said teams of scientists and researchers that many of our world’s beautiful species are being preserved, including the Quito Rocket frog.
