It really is wild that some politicians can stand there and say "yeah we're getting rid of a program that keeps quite literally millions of people alive specifically so we can cut taxes for people who are already richer than god" as if it's a normal political stance and not so cartoonishly evil I'm legit shocked perry the platypus doesn't break through the nearest wall the minute the words leave their mouth.

To the people who talk about the erosion and destruction of public services in a kind of gleeful "Vive la révolution!", "I've consumed too much dystopian fiction" fervor:
Shut—and I mean this most sincerely—the entire fuck up.

My family is from a small copper mining town in Arizona, where my grandfather literally worked in a mine (as did his father, during the the 1910s-30s) after WWII. There is history to the union and their fight in that town.
To break up a union strike, the mine owners had the sheriffs quite literally round up the unionized and unionizing workers, to shove them into rail cattle cars which were then driven 200 miles away to New Mexico (a 16 hour journey through the desert with no food, barely any water), and dumped them there with the threat to never return to the town again.
Please think about this for two seconds.
A company created and used a pseudo-sheriff posse to kidnap 1,300 workers, transport them across state lines, and threaten them with death if they dared to return to their homes. And why?
Because the miners didn't want to die for doing their job and figured they should be paid livable wages when they worked.
How dare they, right?
And, really, if there's someone out there who thinks that no company today would ever do such a thing.... you are deluding yourself.
Oh, and the mining company? Well, a federal commission investigated this and found it, "wholly illegal, without authority in law, either State or Federal", but didn't do anything about it.
And when the case came to the Supreme Court? Well, gee, it looks like there's nothing in the Constitution that allows the federal government to stop kidnappings, even across state lines or on federally-owned railroads.
So nobody was held responsible.

Bruce has been having textbook organic psychotic episodes and suicidal tendencies since at least the 80s and people still say he has no mental health problems or shouldn't have them whatsoever 😔

Leftists, I want to ask you all to do an exercise with me. It's very simple, just a thought experiment really.
I want you to practice the art of being declarative without undercutting your point, without qualifying for bad faith arguments, and with letting multiple things be true at once.
Ready?
Here we go.
Hating men for the sole "crime" of masculinity is not acceptable.
Say that.
Say it in your mind and out loud.
Do you instantly want to qualify that statement with something like, "unless they're [insert thing you dislike here]"? Or maybe, "because it will hurt [group of people who are not men and were, therefore, not the subject of the above sentence]"?
Hating men for the sole "crime" of masculinity is not acceptable.
Notice that, and what other thoughts come up. Then repeat the sentence again.
What came up for you this time? Does saying this make you angry, or defensive? Does this bring up feelings of shame from times in the past where you have hated someone simply because he's male? It's OK to feel these things.
The goal of this exercise is not to convince yourself you're a horrible person for your past actions. The goal is to see what you believed once and compare it to what you believe now, and decide what you will change going forward.
Let's repeat this one more time:
Hating men for the sole "crime" of masculinity is not acceptable.
There we go.
Take a deep breath. Relax your shoulders. Unclench your jaw.
Try to repeat this throughout the week and see what you notice. Remember: there is nothing inherently evil about masculinity. Men are not your enemies for the sole reason that they are men. If anyone tries to tell you that "all men" are evil, horrible, and terrible—especially, especially, if you, yourself, are masculine, whether in public or in your secret heart of hearts—they are espousing TERF and fascist rhetoric, and are trying to sell you hatred as an ideal under the disguise of moral superiority.
Extend grace and kindness to others and to yourself. Do not let hatred take root in your heart or your soul.
We're all learning. We're all growing.
#fleet rambles#once again I am begging everyone to stop doing fascists' work for them#there is no such thing as an Acceptable Target of hatred#politics
