american slang from a resident american:

-bro: literally the most common used slang word between men LMAO i think this is also the closest to ‘mate’ in american terms

-dude: also very common

-brother: used for close platonic relationships

-homie: i can’t picture ANY of the cubs using this maybe finn if anything but it’s a thing

-man: also very common

-girl: i can DEF picture reg or lo being like ‘girl wtf’ to leo or finn LMAO idk if it’s used in the uk but it’s actually my favorite thing to say to my dad or my brother lol

Hey a difference American here! The US is absolutely massive like it almost is the size of the continent of Europe so there are a lot of different religions dialects but the main ones on the East coast which is wear "SweeterWeather" is located are "y'all, dude, bro, man" and depending on friends groups and culture "bitch, and cunt" which is mainly used by people in the lgbtq+ (myself) and women.

Leo is from Louisiana, they tend to have different accents from the rest of the South but similar slang, "y'all, honey, hun, sweetheart, sweetie, darling" and Louisiana specific slang is "Mon chéri or Ma cheri" which is masculine or "Mon chérie or Ma chéri" which is feminine, though spelling could be different because I'd be Louisiana French. All of these can be seen as platonic or romantic and strangest will straight up just call you "honey"

Boston, and New York (both are city's close to gryffindor in SW and seem to be what it's based off of) use "man, bro, dude" more than people from the south would. They cuss people out more too, the south is all about disguising you're dislike and giving backhanded compliments or being so nice it turns back around to being a bitch again. Like "bless you're heart" is a very common phrase in the deep south and it can either be a great thing or they hate you're guts and you can't usually tell which it is. A common phrase in Massachusetts which is where Harvard is located (Logan and Finns college which you know obviously but yk) is "wicked" which is like "wicked cool, or that's so wicked"

"Friend" like the other American Anon said is more so Midwestern and not something you'd see any of the Cubs especially Regulus unless they're making fun of the Midwestern accent or joking around

That's the basics of our slang 

you are now the cubshots holy grail of Americans THANK YOU there are so many dialects (granted in a lot smaller area) in the UK too but I feel like there isn't anything similar to American slang in them 😭 I think that's why I find it easier to write Leo I think bc darling is what I use a lot referring to like everyone I see 😂 (which is why I love a bit of French for reg and lo bc I studied it and I know that more than American slang 😭)

Anyone that has any extra American slang advice pleaseeee do chuck it in here - if you dont want me to publicly reply to it that's fine just say! I have no idea why I haven't done this literally like 2 years ago and saved myself literal HOURSSSS staring at my screen trying my best to put myself in American shoes (it was very scary)

but thank you thank you thank you and if I ever get around to properly writing out an o'darwin fic this will also come in handy. honestly I'm only just realising how many bloody American characters I write about 😭😭

American here! I’m actually currently in the UK right now, so hearing everyone say mate has been making me giggle. I love it.

BUT to answer your question, we say a lot of Y’all depending on where you are, quite a bit of “man” like, “hey, man!” And even some “friend” like, “how ya doing, friend?” And of course bruh and some other silly little things like that :)
