Regardless of how popular or successful a television series is, there comes a time when it ends. Too often these days it’s a cancellation, but there are also shows that had a specific time frame from the start or ones that are drawing to a close when the time is right. And it seems that this year, a lot of shows I enjoy are ending their runs. ...

We live in a time where published authors don’t even blink at the notion of writing for a comic. Stephen King, Gail Carriger and Ray Bradbury have all had their works adapted to comics. By the same token, Margaret Atwood, Chuck Palahniuk and Ta-Nehisi Coates have all written for comics. Does that blow your mind? That’s how far we have come. Good stories don’t just have to come from a traditional novel/short story, movie or tv show. It can happen in a graphic novel or even a video game! I bet now you think that I’m just messin’ with ya… well, I’m not. ...

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned it before, but I really enjoy horror that’s more creepy than hack and slash. The kind that not only keeps you on edge, but also makes you contemplate what might happen next and how it affects the overall plot. Or, sometimes, stuff that’s just plain strange and you have to think about what’s really going on. Castle Rock is a series that manages to do all of that and more. ...

Back in June, Marvel announced a new team would be headlining their own comic, a “team that will do things others won’t”. Strikeforce brings together heroes (some questionably so) who are used to the darker and deadlier side of things. With a starting lineup of Angela, Spider-Woman, Hellstrom, Spectrum, Wiccan and Winter Soldier all led by Blade, it’s definitely a team ready to face the worst.

You don’t really expect books about the end of everything to be fun reads. I mean, sometimes they’re exciting and engrossing, but, ultimately, the situation pretty much demands that things be taken seriously. No comedy, nothing absurd, a complete lack of the off the wall (unless you’re Douglas Adams, of course). So when you pick up a rather serious looking book titled The End of the World – fabric-bound, with imprinted text on the cover, a literal weighty piece – there are certain expectations already in place. ...

You know how they say “there are no small parts, only small actors”? I used to think that was so much BS, too. I mean, it is the kind of thing you say to make someone feel good about a non-speaking part in a school production. But you know what? I was so wrong! Case in point: Clark Gregg and the role of Phil Coulson. Allow me to elaborate.

Having just finished watching Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, I was reminded of how much I really love dark fantasy. I mean, I love the fantasy genre in general, whether it be in television shows, movies, comics or books. But there is something about dark fantasy that, to me, is so much more engrossing, interesting… and entertaining.

But there is one thing in particular that makes this time of the year extra special for me: it is prime reading time!! You know it is!! I mean, for some reason it just seems that the weather is usually perfect to hole up and get my read on! ...

The other day I was talking to my wife about where I am in life at this moment. I was talking about how happy I am and how it has taken me longer than most to start to realize my potential, sorta. I said that I was ok with being a late bloomer. I said that thinking of how so many others seem to have gotten a clue about what they want out of life and how to get it way earlier than me. ...
