an acquaintance told me i had the subtle guardedness of someone who ā€œlearned social skills the hard wayā€ and iā€™d honestly have much preferred they took out a gun and shot me

Iā€™m really looking forward to the day at work when the CEO comes online and says, ā€œCongrats, that was everything we were gonna do. Weā€™ve done all the work. Thatā€™s all the stuff weā€™ve planned to do. The products are all really good right now and we shouldnā€™t change them anymore. Itā€™s just cashing checks from here on out.ā€ And we all go outside and play in the river.

Thinking again about the time my aliens class was discussing conspiracy theories and the professor asked us to call some out and I, thinking simultaneously of both flat earthers and the "moon landing was faked" people, confidently shouted out "FLAT MOON!" and sent the class into hysterics

Okokok let me say something. Being (probably) autistic (or just like really taking things literally haha) it was VERY HARD to learn this. Because "working" should mean intense focus that drives progress toward a goal, and "breaks" are when you're not working. But what it seems like a lot of people do is work with those more restful periods of slowness built in. The concept of letting your mind drift off for a while when you're on the clock? Foreign to me. Because taking the time to sit at a desk and look "worky" enough takes ENERGY MAN. And why would I be spending energy pretending to work when what I really need is a break? If people don't really do this much work in a week, WHY DON'T WE JUST ALL GO HOME???

Iā€™d like to make a request of the aro and ace communities on Tumblr.
This pride month, can we find a way to push back against reductive stereotypes without making other aro and ace people feel excluded?
Can we push back against the idea that ā€œaces are prudesā€ and ā€œaros are heartlessā€ in a way that acknowledges and respects sex-repulsed, romance-repulsed and loveless people?
Can we push back against people who use ā€œaro/ace people can still date/have sexā€ as an excuse to erase us without erasing the aro, ace and a-spectrum people who do enjoy sexual or romantic relationships/activities in some form?
Can we talk about the differing experiences of aros who arenā€™t ace, aces who arenā€™t aro, and aroaces (as well as all the nuanced identities that donā€™t fit neatly into those categories), while maintaining solidarity under our a-spectrum umbrella?
Iā€™d like that.

What kind of hurts is that I feel like aroace people are being discouraged from using both tags rn. I'm pretty hesitant to post this because I don't want it to be harmful to aroallo people who are fighting to be recognized. But I've had a few experiences where people dislike that there are both tags when acespecs talk about their sexual preferences. But the person posting could be aromantic. Aro people should be able to talk about how much they love sex, or how much they hate it. Some peoples' identities regarding romance and sex are interconnected, and I feel they should be able to express that in the tags. Please be careful when criticizing those expressing their aromanticism and asexuality.

Reblog this if you support sex-averse and sex-repulsed aces, including:
Aces who never want to have sex
Aces who had sex in the past but don't desire it anymore
Aces with sexual trauma who feel like their trauma ties into their asexuality
Aces with sexual trauma who don't feel like their trauma caused their asexuality
Aces who don't want to talk to you about sex
Aces who don't want to hear about sex
Yes even aces who do not want to engage with any sexual content and don't want it in their own personal spaces
Yes even aces who express the desire to have more spaces for queer adults where their boundaries are met (on top of the queer spaces that exist, we do not want to sanitize your existing spaces ffs)
If you cannot be normal about these people existing, if you believe they're a threat to our community and to how we're viewed by people who aren't aspec and the rest of the LGBTQ+ community, you are not an asexual ally. Yes, even if you're aspec yourself. Especially if you're aspec yourself.
Because it's been pride month for 4 days and I'm already seeing people trying to throw us under the bus or pretend we don't exist because that makes the ace community more palatable to exclusionists and people who swallowed too much "aces are puritans" propaganda.

i propose that instead of pride month, we have queer year (queer people are treated like actual people all year long)
