you don't need an algorithm, you just need to know what tags you're looking for.

a fic could easily be rated by how many hits or kudos it has on it. if it's popular it's usually for a reason.

it's amazing because it isn't censored, it's labeled. you don't want to read fics with certain themes? have the search exclude the tags revolving around said themes. it's like getting to pick from multiple syrups with a snow cone. don't want cherry limeade? then don't put any on your snow cone, silly. that won't stop the people that like cherry limeade from liking, making, and consuming cherry limeade. pic the syrup you like, leave what you don't like alone, and move on.

purity culture has no place in an archive, and it doesn't have a place in most fandoms (that I know of at least).

Meeseek NPC Theory

throughout the digital circus episodes, Caine heavily implies that bad things will happen if NPC's leave their respective adventures or are left running for prolonged periods of time.

this makes me wonder if the NPC's are like the Meeseeks from Rick and Morty.

for those who don't know, meeseeks are humanoid creatures that are spawned by a meeseeks box, a box with a button on it. the meeseeks will introduce itself and then ask to be given a task. once given a task the meeseeks will go and do that task and once the task is done they disappear in a cloud of smoke and cease to exist. it's later revealed that existence is pain for a meeseeks, so they try to end their suffering as soon as possible, and the only way to do it is by finishing their task.

hell, there's a whole episode of Rick and Morty themed around what happens when meeseeks exist for too long. things get weird, and things get violent real fast, as meeseeks are just naturally unstable beings that aren't meant to exist for long.

what if the intelligent NPC's Caine makes for adventures are the same? because humans are unstable and unpredictable, and Caine designs the NPC's to mimic humans to a degree, the NPC's end up like a meeseeks. able to play their role and exist for 12 hours tops, but after that they become more and more unstable. not only eating computer resources, but becoming increasingly likely to become violent or unsafe to be around.

maybe that's why Caine doesn't allow other NPC's inside the circus tent.

maybe that's why Caine killed Gummigoo in the second episode. he couldn't risk having an unstable NPC that could become violent running around the circus tent.

and if I'm right... what does that mean for the NPC that's been snooping around the tent and stalking the circus members. The one that's seen at the end of episode 5 with all the sinister music playing as it dips out of view.

assuming it's an intelligent AI, how long has it been existing in the circus? how unstable is it? how would that instability present itself? is that why the descriptor word for episode 6 is "guns"?

how is that going to tie into the exploration of Jax and Ragatha's character?

is the sex joke going to be like a positioning thing if the rogue NPC tries to throw hands with one of the circus members and ends up straddling them or something?

dreams are a method of escapism.

Headcanon: Jax sleeps the majority of the day because he's extremely depressed and doesn't want to confront the fact he's trapped forever.

there's also the perspective factor that Ragatha might think that Jax is trying to take Pomni away from her. because Ragatha seems to people please in an attempt to earn their love, since love was likely conditional for her growing up.

the fact that growing up with abusive folks absolutely shoots your social skills is something that no one really acknowledges here. You grow up learning a language that can't really be taught, and when you eventually venture into the world outside your house, everything can feel really foreign and weird. the way others navigate social interactions can feel like taboo, and when the consequences of those taboos don't come, that can be jarring too.

Ragatha's internalized emotions are coming out, and it's doing so through unintentional manipulation and projecting. I'm not a fan of how she acted either, however Ragatha mentioning her mom being a piece of work, gives a lot of insight as to why she acts the way she does.

Here's an unfortunate truth. Every behavior linked to emotional expression is taught. usually through watching your parents experience said emotions. The only way to stop this statement from being true is to find an alternative way to express emotions that isn't inherently mean or harmful to others. that's something that Ragatha hasn't done yet, so of course she mimics what her mom did to her when she was mad or upset with her.

it's not an excuse for her poor behavior, but it is an explanation.

⚠️ TADC EPISODE 5 SPOILERS. ⚠️

I feel like the only person who didn't feel bad for Ragatha at all in episode 5.

To make things clear, I loved Ragatha, she was one of my faves. I thought she was pretty, and fun, and cute.

But after that jab she made at Jax having no friends while he was trying to be vulnerable, it soured my mood on her completely, and now I feel nothing towards her nor what she's going through.

Ragatha embodies a type of person I despise, people who continue to try and hurt you even when you're trying to be better. I was very similar to Jax in the past, and the idea someone will still want me to suffer even after I've put so much effort into growing and changing is terrifying.

It's like she's not even allowing him to make the attempt to reach out and make a friend, she hates him too much to let that happen.

At this point she's choosing this, she's choosing to let her hatred of Jax get in the way of her befriending Pomni. It's very clear Pomni is uncomfortable with Ragatha trying to pull her away from Jax, whilst Jax never tried to do the same to her, and it's why Pomni ended up going to hang out with him in the end. She hates being controlled.

And that's what Ragatha and Caine are trying to do to her.

I have my own reasons to believe that Ragatha is a huge part of the reason everyone avoids Jax, and Jax ended up doubling down on his position and making everything worse for himself. Which I understand, he's lashing out defensively, but Ragatha is being the aggressor, similar to how Caine is being because he's so convinced HIS adventures are better than anything the cast wants.

It's all about what she wants. SHE doesn't want Pomni to befriend Jax because "he's bad for her", SHE doesn't want people to like Jax, SHE wanted to be the leader in the fast food adventure ("Why are you even the boss anyway? I feel like I'm way more responsible than you.")

Also, it's worth pointing out that Gangle has never actually bad mouthed Jax in the entire series.

But she has hinted at her dislike of Ragatha.

Ragatha and Caine this episode were just so abusive to me that I can't feel sorry for either of them. You CANNOT make choices for other people, you need to let them have freedom. But here they are trying to control Pomni because they don't want her to be able to make her own decisions, they think they know what's best for her.

It's so fucking infantilizing.

When Jax pulled away from Ragatha for this reason, because he wants to go do his own thing, he became to her what Zooble is to Caine right now. Someone stubborn, who doesn't know any better, ergo they think; "I have to put them in their place before they hurt everyone else and possibly my image."

Never even realizing that THEY are the problem.
