so obviously emily and murph kept their last names when getting married bc they’re public figures, but i also like to think they stayed the same bc emily’s last name is axford and that’s cool as hell, she can’t swap that out for murphy!
but also murph can’t take emily’s last name because then what will they call him? brian? no! he’d have to be murph axford and that’s also not quite right

everyone always talks about emily’s maniacal laughter but i think we need to also call attention to murph’s occasional bursts of laughter that just perfectly emulate emily’s, and what that says about them being a couple for so long. i think that’s wonderful

i saw the miya cech quote about her wanting to feminize toph to “humanize” her more, and it immediately reminded me of her character in the darkest minds movie
zu was supposed to have a shaven head (presumably a way to dehumanize her while in an internment camp, although the given explanation was lice), and once she gains independence, she makes a point of wearing sparkly princess dresses and pink gloves to make up for the loss of her femininity and girlishness until her hair grows back. meanwhile, the movie adaptation had her with long, long hair, and no real preference to her appearance. by not accurately adapting her look and interests, it changes a big facet of her character background and how the audience views her!
obviously i’m not blaming the literal child actor for wanting to stay in her comfort zone and not shave her head for a role that basically went nowhere, but since this has happened twice, i feel like if she wants to play stereotypically feminine girls and knows she’s not the best fit for the character, she and the casting directors should look elsewhere

also i love the implication, that because the seven and fhjy take place at the same time, arthur aguefort is currently vacationing through time with ayda, but is also available at literally any time for just the seven maidens specifically to help them get their ged
the power of chronomancy!!!

WAIT WAIT WAIT SO
in the seven, they all kind of collectively decide that the language of the baronies is french, and everyone is doing a bit of a french accent and some random french phrases — so is baron’s accent supposed to be french????? is that what that was?????? absolutely insane lmao

Realizing some new readers may not have full context for why Jay is acting the way he is in Secret Six, so here's a rundown from Jay's perspective:
Ok so imagine you grew up in a country in asia thats been colonized like three billion fucking times, and then when you’re around 13, the most recent colonizer literally kidnaps you and your mother and medically tortures you for six months straight. You escape and flee to america with the help of some freedom fighters, and you fight back by starting an underground news network. No one really pays attention to your plight until superman (who will soon kiss you and become your man), having watched your streams, decides to intervene and help your country. Well, you and superman and later, your new friend dreamer, succeed! you liberate it from the most recent colonizer, and you reunite with your mother after like, four years of uncertainty and pain.
And then your good friend dreamer helps a New Colonizer colonize it. Again. Your mother DIES FOR REAL after getting violently shoved out a window WHILE you’re on call with her. And you get chased down and captured (again) BY YOUR GOOD FRIEND DREAMER. Then while youre in prison instead of apologizing properly, your good friend dreamer makes a bunch of excuses for why shes doing the things shes doing.
Once you get out of prison you reunite with your boyfriend who also had a really traumatic encounter with New Colonizer. You expect to bond over thisnew shared horrible experience, but instead he makes excuses for your former good friend dreamer and outright says you should forgive her because she helped HIM out.
You agree to move in with Superboyfriend anyways because you love him even though he is white as powdered snow and very much acting like it. Youre getting ready for the move, and then your ex good friend dreamer shows up at your door.
And then she apologizes….. To your boyfriend. Not you.
How many people would you shoot directly in the face?

i’m very curious to see how the jay & nia “lets kill amanda waller” plan plays out. bc obviously they can’t kill her, from a doylist standpoint, it’s the same as the “let [character] kill the joker” arguments. you can’t kill them, they’re too iconic of a character to just get rid of on a whim
so what will happen instead i wonder…..

"Aro/Ace person gets given a love potion" story but instead of them being immune or whatever, it DOES work, and they realize IMMEDIATELY that they've been fed a love potion because this feeling is so wrong and foreign but everyone keeps laughing off the idea of it being a love potion because "they were probably just a late bloomer" or "no, you just finally found the right person!" and it's just a horror story about how no one believes them even though they know, they KNOW this isn't right and they can't stand it.

no matter how hard writing may be at times, i will never give up the joy and sense of accomplishment that comes from personal creation in favor of using ai as a cheap substitute. please use your own skills and work on honing your craft instead of going to the lazy route of using a program that steals other people’s work for just a passable result
what is the point of “creating” art if you’re not creating anything? are we really that deep into instant gratification that we’ve stopped putting time and effort into our hobbies? what’s left at that point? what are we doing?

Damian and Jay would be best friends if allowed to interact outside of Jon and the sooner y'all come to terms with that the sooner you will understand how fucking funny that would be.
These two are incredibly intelligent. Damian is Damian, of course, Jay is only 18 and he's established an entire media empire practically by himself. But what do you bet that together they'd either a) Invent a whole new flavor of idiot b) combine their two forms of hyperintelligence to mathematically engineer the most stressful situation in the universe for Bruce.

how many times do you think a gotham villain has heard the very real phrase, “a little birdie told me…” and immediately assumed it was a robin catching onto them and launched into a completely one-sided conflict against them for no reason

Ya know, Jay’s going to therapy. Jon mentions as much in Shazam, and there’s still like suggestions about it in Secret Six. But is Jon going to therapy? Imma bet no. I bet you the answer is no.
Jon has a very real problem, which boils down to this: in trying desperately to avoid dealing with his own trauma, he’s trying to force himself and the people around him back into the past, rather than moving forward and trying to deal with the present situation post trauma. He says multiple times that he wants things to go back to the way they were before. Back before everything happened, back when Jon could say he was good and not feel like it might be a lie.
I think that if Jon hadn’t been kidnapped and mind controlled that Jon never would have been so forgiving of Nia. Even if Nia had died and helped to save him twice, I don’t think he would feel so strongly about wanting Jay to forgive her and let it go.
His problem with Jay hating Nia isn’t that Nia saved Jon, or that Jon’s worrying about Jay wanting revenge. Jon is heavily projecting what happened to him onto Nia. Nia was blackmailed. Jon was brainwashed. Jon was forced to be a back seat driver to his own body. And he watched himself devastate the community he’d grown up in, the heroes he thought were so good and the people who would look up to him. And despite the fact that his body and powers were used like a weapon he wasn’t even party to using, he’s terrified that what happened makes him unforgivable.
When Jon gets upset about Jay not forgiving Nia, it’s because Jon seems to believe on some subconscious level that if Nia can still be a good person, if she can be forgiven, then Jon’s sins aren’t unforgiveable.
For Jon, Nia’s his mirror. For Jay, she’s the enemy.
Unfortunately, if Jon doesn’t figure this out fast, he’s going to lose his boyfriend. Yes, Nia did save Jon, but she was also part of why Jay lost so much. Jay’s living very much in the present, in what’s happened, in what to do next. I think that’s a function of everything Jay’s suffered before now too. He doesn’t have the privilege to not be aware and present in what’s going on. The slightest misstep and he can lose even more. I bet keeping his eyes wide open is how he escaped, and how he’s made it this far. I bet he probably has problems letting go and not constantly keeping an eye on threats. Like him watching Waller in her cell. The fact that he’s not as paranoid as Batman at this point is an actual miracle.
So, Jay’s got both eyes open, looking forward, while Jon’s looking behind them. They’re walking down the road together, hands clasped tight, but Jon keeps bumping into and stepping on Jay because he’s not looking forward.
I wanna add, the part where Jon is trying to argue with the guard about letting them in really stands out to me. He’s clinging so hard to the concept of being good, of being Superman’s son, of being someone who can hold that mantel. There’s a heavy instability in the guilt, and he’s drowning in it. If he can’t figure out his problem, he’s going to take multiple people down with him.
That being said, I believe that if Jon can identify his issue and put it into words and admit it that he’ll actually fix it. Right now, he’s focused so much on Jay, how Jay’s doing, how he’s healing, that Jon isn’t working on his own problems. Almost like he doesn’t think he deserves to heal, or feel better, or anything but suffer. But that type of mentality will straight up kill relationships.
