After more than a few missteps involving masking fluid eating my paper, I"m happy to say that this piece is finished! It was a learning process for sure, and while it's not perfect, I'm really happy with the end result. What's more adorable than a dragon grandpa taking his pet Slowpoke for a walk?? Hey guys1 I'm so sorry things have been so quiet - between me getting sick, my cat being incredibly sick, failed hard drives, and crazy work things it's been hard to get online. Happy Fan Art Friday everyone! I've been super inspired to make an entire series in one stye, so expect to see more Crystal Gems soon! :D I'd eventually like to put them together into a zine. I really enjoyed doing this piece - I've been really enjoying this semi-collage/semi-art nouveau style that's been a holdover from the tarot deck and I LOVED getting the chance to paint some of the gorgeous backgrounds from the show. Wow, is it Thursday all ready? Today's card is The Chariot, represented here by two winged horses. The Chariot is all about harnessing opposing forces and energies and applying them toward a single goal. While you may find yourself sidestepping things along the way (the ruling sign of this card is Cancer the crab, after all) and going the long way around, you're sure to find victory at the end (it just may not be the victory you imagined). Happy Tarot Tuesday guys! Today's card is Death, represented here by the Phoenix. The Death card is really a lot less doom and gloom than the movies make it out to be - it's about the rebirth that comes from difficult situations rather than the situation itself, and rarely is about somebody actually dying! Sorry I've been AWOL for a couple weeks, but I've been super busy nailing down details for a super exciting opportunity (more on that soon!!!) I really enjoyed #maywedrawdaily last year, so I'll be back for it this year! Look for a piece every day, and some new life to be breathed into the YouTube Channel! Anyway, this is a piece inspired by my new home. In Texas, the usual Chicago pigeons (gosh I love pigeons) are replaced by these really cool birds called Grackles. They're these giant, sleek birds and the boys are iridescent black and I've been super captured by them (apparently, like my beloved pigeons, they're considered a pest). I also wanted to capture all the beautiful wildflowers that carpet the landscape here in the spring - pictured here are the Texas blue bonnets, Indian paintbrush, and primroses. (And some strawberries for good measure, you can go strawberry picking here like how we do apples up north!) Watercolors, India ink, and gold pen on 6x8 watercolor paper. Find me other places! For this illustration, I took all my favorite buildings in Chicago and mooshed them all together! This is in no way shape or form where the buildings appear in real life on the skyline, but hey, they look cool together ;P

This was an experiment in doing a full illustration in Copics. I love how it turned out!

What do you do after you learn an instrument? Why you give a recital of course! I loved making this piece of Peri giving her first concert - it's such a special moment for both student and teacher. Because the song behind this piece is "Peace and Love on Planet Earth," I've included the bubbled cluster as well. It's is a part of the Earth after all!

After a long hiatus due to moving (again...I promise this is the last time!) I'm back in action! I know I’ve been teasing this project for *ages,* but here it finally is! This is The Fool, the first completed card of my Animal Nouveau Tarot deck. It’s going to be a long journey to the finish line, but I’m beyond excited to launch this project.

I plan on uploading 2-3 cards a week, but right now things will be a little slow while I wait for my paper to arrive (it’s currently on backorder). While on one hand I’m glad for the delay so that I can really nail down the design of the entire deck in the thumbnail stage, I’m chomping at the bit to get certain cards done!

The end goal is to publish the deck, and I’ll have prints and originals for sale as well. I’ll have a section of my website devoted to the project and I’ll let you know when that goes live as it will be the first place to get updated week-to-week. I’d also love to publish a coloring book if you guys are interested!
