Bx staying you can come into conversation with random people about it. THAT helps the AntiJKR legion much more.
I openly wear the Slytherin symbol next to my rainbow on my cap and rucksack or the Slytherin tie and am often asked why I'm still a fan even though I'm openly gay. I've also had to justify myself to one of my trans friends, which really hurt me. Being an HP/Slytherin fan doesn't mean being a JKR fan!
I'm still looking for the right "JKR STINKS" button. I just don't like this one:
Tumblr media
Too much text and no 💩pic of her.
If anyone could create sth more like this:
Tumblr media
I would appreciate it!
What are your thoughts on those who believe hp fans (fan writers, artists, and appreciators alike) should leave the fandom sphere in favor of not giving JKR any “support” even if one does not share her views, as opposed to consuming fan content (or even the original media) while understanding the separation between art from artist (even if that can’t truly be 100% done, as HP is JKR, though that is another discussion entirely)?
I can only answer for myself, but I guess I would say - I'm a teacher, IRL. And my students, they know about Harry Potter, they know the property, they grew up with the movies, they read Harry Potter fanfiction, and... they talk to me about it. I think it's *good* that they talk to me about it. They ask questions about JKR, about the problematic elements in the books, trans issues, queer coded villains. Whatever is bothering them, whatever they otherwise feel dumb about asking.
Just the other day I had a very sweet conversation with a trans student who had realized he was gay because Harry and Draco in the books were so "real" and "me coded" (and then he realized people shipped them and was like OH.) Basically, he just needed to be told that his experience was still okay and valid even though JKR is such a terrible transphobe. I had another one ask me "why are all queer people Wolfstar?" (what she meant was, why do gay couples in media tend have a masc one + a femme one. But for her, patient zero is Wolfstar, and that's how she phrased the question.)
On this blog, I'm in this position where I clearly know like, a lot about Harry Potter, I clearly authentically love it (and the fan culture around it...) but am very VERY critical of both JKR as a person, and specific choices she made while writing the books. That's a combination that's definitely got me some hate mail, but also thank-you letters, and extremely earnest questions. And, if I never touched HP meta or fandom, I wouldn't get to occupy that space.
I completely, completely understand people who never want to read the words "Harry Potter" ever again. That was me, for years. I only started writing about Harry Potter on this blog last July, but so far it's been very a interesting, rewarding, cathartic experience. I've also had a great time writing fic, and using that as a means to examine my emotions and issues around this property, and with JKR herself. I got such a kick out of matching JKR's writing style as perfectly as I possibly could, and then writing Book 4 babygay Drarry. Or making Tonks just like, super genderqueer, trans, all of the above. Or flipping the framing to write a 100% canon compliant morally grey Dumbledore, and a sympathetic Lucius Malfoy. People seem to really like the fics too, so that's a nice bonus. I've gotten a lot from fanfiction myself in the past, I think it's a fascinating and useful form of art. So, I like getting getting to continue the cycle.

Please don't even feel the need to apologise!
Well written and thx for all the reviews!
So, a post of mine has recently blown up, and I just want to say: it is 100% possible to both write a marauders era fic that is historically accurate and still be as gay and trans and nonbinary as anything that could possibly be written today. All of these things existed back then, people might have struggled to express it verbally without the terminology we have now, and they might have used to terms that were perfectly acceptable in times past but are now discouraged (example, transsexual vs transgender), but people of all kinds still existed. In fact, many of those people wrote books in the past, expressing a wide variety genders and sexualities.
You want some gay guys who get a happy ending (no "bury your gays" trope here!), try Maurice by E. M. Forster. Yeah, that E. M. Forster, of A Passage to India and A Room with a View fame. Originally written in 1913, it wasn't actually published until 1971 after Forster's death. It's about a rich aristocrat getting dicked down by his rugged gamekeeper.
You want some lesbians? Try Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown, published in 1973. Yeah, that Rita Mae Brown, who writes that series of cozy old lady cat mysteries like The Purrfect Murder and Murder, She Meowed. Wrote a semi-autobiographical coming of age novel about the 70s lesbian scene where her main character is just eating up that delicious rubyfruit.
You want some trans men? Try Metamorphoses by Ovid. Published 8 AD. Yep, some Roman guy was writing about trans men in year. fucking. 8. The particular poem in question is "Iphis and Ianthe" and Iphis is a man with a vagina, which is kind of problem because he's supposed to marry the beautiful Ianthe in the morning and Ianthe does not know about this vagina situation. So, Iphis prays to Isis, and the goddess Isis is like, "yeah, I can fix that" and gives him a dick.
If you want trans women... well, there's Myra Beckinridge and the sequel Myron by Gore Vidal, published in 1968 and 1974 respectively. But honestly it's kind of a fucked up and weird book, but then again Gore Vidal was a kind of fucked up bisexual himself with some terrible opinions. Look, not every one of these is going to age well. Myra Beckinridge was an important work that did a lot to subvert gender and sex norms. I would recommend reading a synopsis first to prepare for anything that might be triggering thought.
Fanfiction for a lot of people is a way to relax and enjoy a happier, brighter world, and if that's you then all the power to you. I sincerely hope you find the best fics out there to suit your needs. Not everyone likes historical realism, and not everyone wants to read about the uncomfortable realities of the past, and that is fine. I do. I like reading it, and I will close any fic that doesn't even try to attempt to remember the marauders era is set in the 70s. That's just my particular taste.
There's a paragraph in the novel The Female Man by Joanna Russ (1975 lesbian novel) where the author says farewell to her book and states:
"Live merrily, little daughter-book, even if I can't and we can't; recite yourself to all who will listen; stay hopeful and wise. Wash your face and take your place without a fuss in the Library of Congress, for all books end up there eventually, both little and big. Do not complain when at last you become quaint and old-fashioned, when you grow as outworn as the crinolines of a generation ago and are classed with Spicy Western Stories, Elsie Dinsmore, and The Son of the Sheik; do not mutter angrily to yourself when young persons read you to hrooch and hrch and guffaw, wondering what the dickens you were all about. Do not get glum when you are no longer understood, little book. Do not curse your fate. Do not reach up from readers' laps and punch the readers' noses.
Rejoice, little book!
For on that day, we will be free."
And Russ is stating that it is a good thing when books and movies become outdated and are seen as politically incorrect, like Myra Beckinridge, because this means that society has evolved. We know better now, or at least we know more than we did when it was written. And we are continuously striving to do better and be better and more accepting. Anyway, I don't know where I'm going with this except that I want more gay historically accurate 1970s snape fics, and I'm not going to apologize for that.

Take a break.
Since I disabled the "allow anonymous questions" button, I got no message of those anonymous cowards.
Stay safe!
Only because some HP fans & Bitch J.K.R are transphob, doesn’t mean all are. Such people who believe that are little kiddos.
Temporary Post: I’ll take it down in an hour because it’s so angry and ruins the cozy vibe of the blog lol. I just have to rant…
So I just got called a TERF. Yeah, I’m not one; go ahead and get off my turf if you think I am.
I know JK Rowling needs a lobotomy, but doesn’t mean I do too. Leave me alone; I’m literally just drawing. You know who you are.
I support trans rights. I wish this was the default unless I outwardly say otherwise… What a world we live in 🙄 let us not turn against each other merely based on what our hobbies/interests are. I listen to The Smiths but I’m not a racist; I like Harry Potter but I’m not a transphobe; I enjoyed Hunger by Hamsun but I’m not a Nazi. Yeah, that makes sense if you have common sense. Not all authors/artists are good people. So let’s fortify our moral compass by grounding them when they’re outrageously ignorant, but not ignoring what makes US happy because WE are not in the wrong.
I get insults/hate all the time. But literally to call me something as if I am a vessel of hatred?? No, I cannot stand it. I support trans rights; I just wished you all assumed I did by default.
And to yall who call me a homophobe/transphobe/sexist in my DMS, you could not be more wrong. Uhhhhh You don’t know me at all, you don’t know what IVE been through, so literally STFU. I’ve been trying to ignore those comments but i got CAT called/followed today and then i opened my DMs and saw THAT??? Hell no. I’m NOT one of those disgusting, rotten people which dehumanize others and I will never be. This world is disgusting and it won’t continue with me.
Good night.

Good idea.
So I can filter those out. THX!
Hopefully people use tags.
A suggestion: let’s all use some more specific tags (#harry potter hbo, #hp hbo, etc.) for content about the new series.
Not only will folks be able to stake out their own space within the fandom to share updates and news and speculations in one convenient place, but it will be filterable for anyone who is less than excited or interested in the series and will keep them off of your posts.
Win/win

Where exactly did I accuse you you are a Marauder Stan?
You asked why I see the alleged bullying as an marauded HC, I responded to that.
Hmm, you see the reasoning in the links as weak.... strange.
You can't answer my questions?
...hmm...
I'm bending the scene? *sarcastic soft voice on* Really? Ooohh... How precisely is "I see no difference." Bullying? - was one of my questions.
Are you going to pull out any other ProBully "arguments" now or can you just tolerate my interpretation instead of making fun of me like a Mar...hmmm....
By the way @your blog argument: Many here have multiple blogs, and can run two to three tracks.
I am a Snafender, ProSnaper and I like all his sarcasm, which is not bullying. For me, there is a difference.
And while we are at it: Things Severus Snape did not do as a Hogwarts member of staff...
The best thing Snape ever did was bullying those kids.

The "Snape bullied kids! He is evil!" is THE argument by Marauder stans ever since. If you would have read the links behind the underlined words in my first 'reply', you maybe would not repeat that marauded "argument"/HC...?
What about the tooth scene? (The classic Marauder scene for 'proving' their "argument".) Severus just said he doesn't see any difference. We don't actually know what he doesn't see a difference in. It's just his opinion for now.
And that opinion counts suddenly?
And that's (why it is) bullying?
In what way precisely?
Did he ever said anything against physical appearance of anyone?
Maurauder fans have never been able to answer these questions ... They always dodged the questions by insulting my person without knowing me. Can you answer the questions?
Btw: The fact that Harry and Ron even think to ask their so much hated teacher, whom they have known for four years in this scene, for attention amazes me every time I read it. AND Ron forces Hermione to show her teeth - that is far worse to me, than Snapes reply.
Furthermore: Snape sees no difference here between Harry's and Draco's hexing. Both victims had to go to the hospital wing.
Just for the record, if he'd said, "Well, the teeth finally fit the big mouth." Then he would have said something directly towards her status and it would have been bullying par excellence. Sadly he didn't...?

Nope.
1. This was the best thing Sev ever did:
Tumblr media
2. He did not bully. Because bad words/being an asshole are meaningless, when the action causes goodness. Read here and there more about it.
If that again is a marauded HC, p l e a s e tag it properly, thx.

Could you maybe reblog this post if you think respecting trans peoples' names and identities is a basic right and not a political opinion?

Hey guys let me tell you about advance fee scams
I hope y'all are familiar with these in this day and age, especially my artists out there, because they're incredibly common.
About half an hour ago I posted a drawing and tagged it #artists on tumblr, and very quickly received this comment.
Tumblr media
My scam radar went off immediately, due to the generic blog name and lack of any emotion in the comment, but I decided it might be an entertaining venture so I dmed them. They asked for a drawing "of these", and sent me a random selfie. I got the details and told them it would be $15, and they promptly offered me $300. At this point I know it's a scam, but I play along for funsies and give them my paypal. Shortly, they send me this image for "confirmation" (I blocked out my email)
Tumblr media
And they began to insist that I checked my email. I looked in my spam folder and found the following email.
Tumblr media
This is fake. This is not a thing. And the "you're to refund the $200.00 back" is the scam. They send vaguely official-looking emails at you to "prove" that they sent you the money, then have you send them $200 (or however much the scam is for). Then, surprise surprise, you're out $200.
I continued to play along for a bit, and in the second email "Paypal" told me that I had to refund the $200 before they could "credit the $300 to my account", along with these lovely threats.
Tumblr media
And yeah, it's silly. But it's not silly if you don't know and get scammed. So. Spread, please! And thank you very much to @mlaurel for the opportunity to get these screenshots.
