Jakobs Castle, "Lights Out"
Musician Jakob Nowell, the anime enthusiast behind the band Jakobs Castle, a fan of artists Black Midi and 100 Gecs, reminisces about an ex and wonders why her love went out like a light bulb.
A song on love lost and the feelings and memories that remain, like listening to Black Midi CDs or going to shows and seeing 100 Gecs, it references JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure), Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan), and Death Note's Light Yagami and Misa Misa in a musical style that Jakob's dubbed "beach meets internet," as it combines influences from the Southern California artist scene he's rooted in and the online communities that shape his interests.

I’m not saying that Taylor Swift’s song “Look What You Made Me Do” (from 2:14 to 2:45) copies Limp Bizkit’s song “Trust” (from 2:38 to 3:18), but . . . :-P

Chester Bennington, singer in the band Linkin Park, commit suicide on July 20, 2017, on what would have been singer Chris Cornell’s birthday, if he had not also commit suicide on May 18, 2017. Chester and Chris dying are both personal tragedies that add them to a larger statistic plaguing society: the suicide rate. Chester and Chris were both American and, as of 2017 in the United States, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death overall, with over 44,000 suicides a year, as well as nearly 500,000 people a year being admitted to the hospital for either attempted suicide or self-harm and, according to surveys, an estimated 1,000,000 total attempted suicide or self-harm incidents a year. All genders commit suicide, attempt suicide, and self-harm, but to break down the statistics by sex, males are 4 times more likely to commit suicide than females and females are 3 times more likely to attempt suicide or self-harm than males, making suicide a social issue with clear differences between the sexes that must be explored further to determine the best ways to target people’s specific needs to reduce deaths and harmful behaviors as a whole. Recurrent thoughts of death and suicide, attempting suicide, and self-harm are indications of mental health issues. To prevent suicide and improve mental health, it is important for those with mental health issues to find and do what helps them appropriately manage their symptoms and for people to be supportive of that and understanding of their conditions.  Linkin Park’s first big single was “One Step Closer,” so for many, the first time they heard Chester Bennington’s voice, he said, “I cannot take this anymore.” The song concludes with him shouting, “And I’m about to break.” Please check out sources, such as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), for information on what needs to be done for less people to reach the point where they cannot take life anymore and break and for more people to get the care they need to become healthier and survive.

NEVER FORGET - A TRUE STORY TOLD THROUGH DANCE
Allison Lee was born on September 13, 2001, two days after her father, Daniel Lee, was killed as a passenger of American Airlines Flight 11, the first of two hijacked planes to hit the World Trade Center in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States, while traveling home to California from his job as a roadie for the Backstreet Boys to be there for Allison's birth. Allison was the first of over a hundred babies born after losing their fathers on September 11. In this video, Allison and fellow dancers from Astudia Dance World in Las Vegas pay tribute to Daniel and all of the lives lost with him and to the people impacted by that day.

R.I.P. Davy Jones (12/30/1945-2/29/2012), best known as one of The Monkees and who Boy Meets World fans loved as “Reg . . . Reginald Fairfield!” when the show brought the Monkees gang back together as Topanga’s dad Jedediah (Peter Tork), Alan’s friend Gordy (Micky Dolenz), and a free-loading Englishman from Alan and Amy’s Euro-trip past named Reg . . . Reginald Fairfield, for some laughs and music :-)

Swim - Jack’s Mannequin (Rough acoustic cover)
Hey everyone. So I know I’ve been missing in action for a while, but the past few months everything’s been a little hectic. It started with my final exams, which were crazy. Then after that I moved houses, which meant stuff lost everywhere, and weeks without internet (omg). Not to mention I’ve been a little down lately, like everyone else from time to time.
But not to worry, because I’m back. I’ll be looking for a job, and busking around Sydney a whole lot to get some money saved up, to buy new equipment. Which means music and videos that are a whole lot better :) I’ll also have a demo up early next year of originals, which I promise you guys will love.
But for now, all I can give you is this very rough cover of Swim by Jack’s Mannequin. It’s recorded badly, my guitar is missing strings and out of tune, my voice is rusty, and it’s overall a pretty bad cover :) But this is my life at the moment, and this cover is as real as my music will get.
Love you guys, hope you’re all well :)
