The Self-Obsessed Nature of Netizens.

Sometimes I find myself needing to get off the internet. I literally deleted TikTok because of how self-absorbed people on the internet become. In the day-to-day, you stating you never seeing things will never mean the thing did not occur. When they write things like this comment, they fail to consider they are at fault; that they are the reason things never fall into their peripherals.

I believe it is because of how self-oriented our social media has become, people are believing their views represent the whole. Their eco chamber sounds bigger than it is, so they think it is. This sentiments bleeds into politics, with the American left on social media exemplifying this.

There are creators so obsessed with maintaining fickle rights and privileges afforded to them by their birth place that they are willing to jeopardise the lives of others. They have become so self obsessed that they cannot fathom others have problems equal or greater than theirs.

This self obsession coupled with our prioritisation of moral standing—terms like girl’s girl and pick-me being synonymous with good and bad—has lead to non-productive conversations. Thus creating impossible to reconcile discourses.

I urge you think of others, what they struggle with and how you are similar to them. If you truly believe your problems should be placed above others, then don’t be surprised when they come for you too.

If you thought about it for a little longer you would realise it is redundant to hate all men. This stance relies on gender being binary and it’s not. Then it also relies on men as naturally violent, or bio essentialism, which has been used to justify racism against men of colour and global south immigrants. There is a thin line between this form of “advocacy”, homophobia and racism.

(P.S there are plenty of men sexually assaulted by women but because of this rhetoric and patriarchy, they do not acknowledge or even know they’ve been assaulted)

Hence that statement proves nothing relevant in this convo

Am I wrong to think there is more nuance to this convo? It's not just height and attire like some people like to think it is. What does "act sexual" even mean, if our purity culture deems women living as a sexual act at times? It is about attitude, setting, genre; all these things factor into this discussion. But some people want things to be black and white.

I despise liberal Americans, specifically the ones claiming they grew up in a “peaceful” and “democratic” time. Where did you grow up? Where have you been for 100 years? When has the world ever been peaceful please tell me so I can build a time machine and travel there since we all live in fantasy world.

2020s = economic and political instability (Covid)

2010s= economic instability and global epidemics and rise of far right extremism

2000s = economic crashes and wars galore

1990s = rise in international terrorism and more economic turmoil

1980s to 1960s = war and racial inequality

1950s-1940s = more war and racial injustice and colonialism

1930s-1920s = economic collapse and rise in far right politics

Carl Gallagher: Is joining the cops “breaking the family curse” or continuing it?

Tiktok comments refer to Carl Gallagher, of the hit American spinoff series—Shameless, as the one who broke the curse. With a family of drug peddlers and users, Carl managed to create a stable career for himself. The issue is that career is that of a cop. An officer in an institution responsible for many of the going downs in his neighbourhood.

In the show, They frame his joining the force as a good thing; even celebrating his first arrest; while the Gallagher’s proclaim their family doesn’t snitch. They are adverse to authorities but celebrate when their family becomes one?

He went to jail and left with an admiration for the system that imprisoned him? So he can imprison children like him?

Hence why I believe Carl’s joining is a reinforcement of the cycle; albeit for another family. Sure he might have severed his relationship to drugs and criminals, but has he really.

Carl was a violent child. He stole, fought, took drugs and attended Juvie before turning the leaf. But I remember a YouTuber, Olay, saying mayor Eric Adams turned from one gang to a bigger one. Perhaps the same applies to Carl. He forwent illegal assault or carrying for its legal opposites. Therefore was there a change or did he switch to a legal version of what he already did?

Not to undermine the stability a career like that grants, but you can’t ignore the positions cops have in neighbourhoods like that.

It reminded me of Disco Elysium with Cuno and Harry. The fandom frames recruiting Cuno as a benefit; recruiting him to a career our protagonist despises, one where you are knowingly a lackey for an absent ruling class, and fail at maintaining stability (the hardy boys remarked on how cops had failed them over land disputes).

Hence to me, a “troubled” or poor boy joining the institution responsible for his and others instability will never be aspirational. And it reeks of military propaganda.

The mask of racial tolerance and acceptance is slipping in the west. They don’t care how they are perceived by peers.

Ecological disasters and Political Unrest:

A comparative analysis of Middle Ages Europe and The West.

Seeing the California fires makes my heart break. It breaks for the families losing years of history; the Indigenous land ruined due to years of climate pollution. But these disasters are signs; as is everything in our world.

These are symptoms of distressing times. When our ecosystem turns on us, so does the political; and vice-versa. It is always following famines that political unrest occurs—or the unrest is exacerbated by famines and drought.

We simply look back into history to predict our future. In Middle Ages Europe, revolts and wars followed after famine and a pandemic, disabling and starving the people. Similar to today, there were religious conflicts and movements against the overlords.

Invasions and financial collapse followed—the latter seems fast approaching as governments rack up massive debts and the AI bubble near collapse.

There are too many odd similarities to our time; we must be aware of our history to understand we are no different from our ancestors.

Mel Medarda: My Queen

The undertones of that statement: Arcane Review

Watched Arcane a while ago but was reminded of it whilst scrolling on Pinterest. Saw a comment claiming to never forgive Jayce for his relationship with Mel (obviously a joke), but I got me thinking about the racial implications behind that statement.

I realised this on TikTok, as I saw plenty Mel “stans” claiming she was too self-sufficient to be in a relationship with Jayce and should therefore leave him to be with Victor whilst she remains alone. Or that she was blocking Jayce X Victor.

That idea is reminiscent of the strong black woman stereotype. Although non-black people have convinced themselves this is a positive stereotype, it still does damage. The implication behind that stereotype is that she—the black woman—is completely dependable, she will not complain over your need for help and will always be there for you regardless of its effect on herself.

Under the guise of being progressive, they feed into that stereotype. That she is somehow above vulnerability. That it is a lack of “womanly” vulnerable emotions; she is only capable of anger or lust.

Which leads into the manipulative Mel archetype the fandom created. Melding her into this cartoonishly manipulative, strong black woman who used her sexuality to strong-arm the brainless Jayce.

That despite everything she didn’t love Jayce and he didn’t love her. (Complete trash)

Both spectrums do not reflect her character. She is rather above weak emotions or the disposable black girlfriend trope. regardless of intention created a false idea of her.
