Watching Saltburn is an experience that has to happen while actively looking for the hints and symbols of Greek mythology while paying attention to the characters growth into who he is. Everything has a meaning and everything is telling us from beginning that hell will break loose.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We gotta understand and see the hight difference not a directing choice for aesthetics but to represent the “difference” between Oliver and Felix family. The cousin and Felix are higher, always looking down on him. Felix being the “golden boy”, “the god”, “Apollo”, who is here to be loved and venerated by everybody. The gift represents Felix giving Oliver a taste of ambrosia, a test of what is to live with money, being part of the high class, he is feeding him/humiliating him by keeping it at hands reach. Same with the cousins that plays a role of constantly humiliating and reminding Oliver that he is a nobody and to remember that him being there is just because the “gods” allows it and that soon will be dispatched.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clearly Felix close up is to show his sweetness and to depict Oliver’s obsession. How he see him with desire and infatuation that is actually obsession. The fact that Oliver follows him and watches him from outside his window only shows that is is obsessed and not in love. On the second gift, again we see Felix from below, making him superior and godlike, an angelic figure to be venerated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Besides the obvious reference of blood and vampirism. Oliver is a real vampire not for sucking on blood, but because he is sucking on everyone’s life force, existence, money, and sanity. His first victim, which a transformative event, is Venetia. The young and unstable woman that feeds him secrets in exchange of her life force. From this scene we know that Oliver’s manipulative skin has started.
Tumblr media
From this scene which is almost an opening scene of Oliver’s arrival to Saltburn, the director is foreshadowing Oliver’s plan and view of how all Felix’s family is an assemble of puppets, again telling us that Oliver will be pulling the strings as the puppet master.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally the labyrinth scene with the Minotaur. We ask in that scene: who is the Minotaur? Who is Perseus? Or better said, who is getting slaughter and who is coming out alive, which we know. Finally the lunch scene when we see all true characters that are left in the dinning room with the courtains closed and the heavy red color that surrounds them is not only their bloody mood but also the symbolism of falling into hell. A symbol of death and distress that has fallen into them even during a beautiful funny day.
Also, let’s not forget that Oliver is not bisexual or at least I don’t consider him that. I see him as a deconstruction of the archetypal character of the femme fatale a character that uses es everything at their disposal even sex to get their way. Giving a hand job was just a task to get to the cousin’s phone, which was obvious to everybody that he was also in love or infatuated with Felix. also, Oliver might seem that wanted to fxck Felix but it goes beyond that, Oliver wanted to get under Felix’s skin, suck him up alive, have what Felix has… become Felix. Own Saltburn.

When stress & the world become ons so overwhelming… go with the flow… Tao te Ching teaches how to develop personal power through living in alignment with the Tao, or ‘going with the flow’, being in harmony with Nature…
I listed to this and I didn’t understand much but go with the flow stayed with me, and even if I didn’t get, I internalized that… then imagine reading it again!

STOP! STOP!!!! I have something very important to tell you... and it is that you have to read this novel 🥹🥹🥹🥹
Tumblr media
Why? Because Lis brought to my life a sharp, fresh, and accessible story with one of the best yet cynic characters of 2023. Also, if you liked Normal People by Sally Rooney you will love this! And if you thought that one was too much, then this will be just perfect!
"Wild Asses of the Mojave Desert sizzles with a dazzling heat that defines what is to be in pain, in love, and lost" ~ Inkish Kingdoms
The worst part of this book is if you don't read it... honestly, don't risk it

As an avid reader I must provide my blunt and unfiltered comments about book adaptations, and even though I read this novel a while back, when I was still quite an inexperienced reader, I find it to be an incredible piece of writing.
The novel is around 500 pages and for me that is a lot. A massive undertaking to keep engage with the story but you manage as the story is rich in events, characters and story lines. Therefor, when I saw that the adaptation was to be 4 chapters and each one of them was only 1 hour I was doubtful that it would be faithful to the novel and even to the story per se. However, my professor from uni thought me well to fight those expectations of thinking that an adaptation would ever be a carbon copy of the novel to the screen.
Even though this is the case for All the Light We Cannot See, the Netflix adaptation took certain liberties like focusing only on the main story line of the novel. Marie LeBlanc’s survival, journey, development and character. This being said, all story lines or characters that didn’t interact with her directly for the sake of this story line were eliminated abridging the story while keeping almost the same esense with a happier twist.
Although the director takes a more romantic turn to certain events, which for me are unnecessary and criminally abuses the original work, the adaptation gives us Marie and her efforts to join the rebellion. Other story lines like Marie’s dad and uncle get closure and background that could have been lost amount the 500+ pages of the original work. Also, for those that read the novel, keep in mind that violence, assault or those kind of triggers aren’t present on the adaptation.
The cast was well picked and the acting was emotional and convincing. The scenography was beautiful and stayed true to the real location as it was filmed Saint-Malo, Budapest, and Villefranche-de-Rouergue. Additionally, the inclusion of the cast by including blind actresses was fenomenal and needed to give opportunities to all actors and actresses that have being ignored for decades.
Enjoyable, entertaining and intense. Netflix portrayed the story fairly with minimal changes that very picky watched and bookworms will condemn, and honestly will agree with them.

I just watched the adaptation for Red White and Royal Blue and I have a few points that I want to cover.
The smiles, the chemistry and the touch felt real, present, and exciting. Other movies or shows where gay characters are portrayed with full on straight actors, like Love, Simon, the interpretation of queerness and sexual chemistry was completely lacking and forced to the point of awkwardness. However, in this movie, I could see the passion in their interaction through their performance.
Tumblr media
The story was modified so much, but they kept most of Henry’s and Alex’s history intact. I understand and appreciate them keeping their story as close to the original material as they did although I was missing some of their comedy banter which happen too fast and too light to fully understand the “enemies to lovers” kind of trope. For someone who didn’t read the book, my fiancé, he got lost into their texting showing as if they where together and then Henry disappearing, but since those interactions didn’t last long, he recovered almost immediately.
The elimination of characters like Alex’s sister and Henry’s mother, Raphael Luna and his story, was a blow to my expectations. Also the minimization of Alex’s and his friend story and his full on sexual crisis was important to understand Alex’s struggles and process of defining his identity was a huge miss in my opinion. Nora was an amalgamation of June’a character and Nora’s real character that took away part of the joy of having the fabulous White House trio.
Some green screen effects where notorios and some interactions were mild, like the change of the queen for a King, I enjoyed the story enough because I was here for their queer love, the Stable Scenes and the Paris scenes because at the end, we will always have Paris. 🩷

This is how I feel every time I walk into the library! Through the looking glass toward a wonderful and magic world! I can’t go to the mall without going in! 🩷🩷🩷
But then I look at the prices and my eagerness to buy books kind of simmers down 💀💀 to “pretty books pretty books” 💀
Any book donations here
Also, I understand here why people say that they will live in a bookstore like look at this 😭😭 it does look dreamy. Can I sit here and read like it this was the library? 🥲🥲

I have never liked retellings because I find them a bit unoriginal or they fail monumentally to have any proper resemblance and I even think they are marketed like that to sell more 🤷🏻
So when people complain about Disney, Warner y other medias doing live actions o revamps of old movies or shows…because they want new stories: I feel validated 😂😂
I knew I wasn’t on the wrong path 😂 I want adaptations, properly done, but not an adaptation of an adaptation give that a rest 🙄🙄
Also, just for basing your novel on Jane Eyre won’t make it good. Just for basing your story on Dorian Gray won’t make it good, and I am about to drop names here 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I have tried to be aesthetic but this is another case of failing as something I am clearly not that good at? Starting with my handwriting 💀 but I like the picture the colors and the overall look.
I might have failed here a bit but I am sure I can improved! I have to use a ruler next time 💀💀
I sometimes lose my north but I always come back to this. Retaking my literature reading 📖 I might go slow cause I might be doing 3 gigs to earn some money… life is expensive 😭

I was reading this one a while back on audio and I had to stop. This is a book to read, take notes, learn from and even memorize.
Reading this helped me process and understand more what I was reading at the moment but since I wanted the physical copy I didn’t finish it.
But I started again! And I did a schedule to read and study and to make the best out of my reading time! While reading Yellowface I have been thinking on what is going on and how this book can help me dissect that one and take you all in a literary ride 🍑🍑🍑 so let’s see what we get done!

I was trapped here for 2 hours under a little hut while the rage of god fall upon it. It rained nonstop and all I wanted was a hammock and The Time Machine because nothing else would have been enough to keep me from diving into the old crater.
Also because I was exhausted and wanted to take a sit and I couldn’t haha
