Jordan’s top 10 films of all time.
This is the most difficult question in the world, my favourite films jump about on a month to month basis. It’s kind of a problem with me. Regardless of that incredible character flaw i’m going to try my hardest to run down my top 10 films of all time. WARNING: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.
#10 - Clubbed ( 2008 ) - IMDB average: 6.9. My IMDB rating: 9.
Tumblr media
In my opinion one of the most underappreciated films of all time. I don’t know a single other person that has seen this movie and it’s a huge shame. Clubbed is a drama set in the early 1980′s about a factory worker who decides to start working on the doors of a successful nightclub, The tone of this film is very much about lead character Danny trying to win the respect of his ex wife who believes he’s “weak” while trying to prove to himself and his children he is capable of providing for them and taking care of himself. Emotional, in your face, hard hitting English drama and its very finest.
#9 - Mad Max: Fury Road ( 2015 ) - IMDB average - 8.1 - My IMDB - 10 -
Tumblr media
My introduction to the well, mad world of mad max if you’ll excuse the awful turn of phrase, 2015′s Fury Road just had me in awe, the explosions, the chases, the way Tom Hardy genuinely acted like a rabid dog for a lot of the movie, I saw this movie in the cinema and the first thing I said when I left was “I’m not sure what just happened  but I enjoyed it a lot”. Personally I believe Mr Hardy is perfect for this role and it’s nice to see someone who doesn’t hate Jewish people take the reigns. If you want a movie to completely sweep you off our feet and show you exactly how much a good backroom team can make a movie then look no further, with it picking up awards for Film Editing, Costume Design, Makeup and Hair, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Production design.
#8 - Big Hero 6 ( 2014 ) - IMDB average - 7.9 - My IMDB - 10 -
Tumblr media
Firstly, let me get one thing straight: Big Hero 6 is the best Disney film, bar NONE. When I first saw the trailer for this movie I immediately wrote it off as a silly gimmick that wouldn’t be any, Boy was I wrong and i’m so glad I was, This film gave me one of the most enjoyable cinema experiences of my life, I laughed, cried, shouted, screamed, I felt every emotion possible and isn’t that the mark of a great movie? To make you feel things? As of yet I am yet to experience anything close to the feelings I had while watching this masterpiece. I’ve never been happier for a film than when Big Hero 6 picked up Best Animated at the  2015 academy awards.
#7 - The Theory Of Everything (2014) - IMDB average - 7.7 - My IMDB - 9.
Tumblr media
I've never really been drawn in by biographical movies but when I saw this trailer I had to see it, Eddie Redmayne puts on an acting masterclass with his portrayal of the great Stephen Hawking and Felicity Jones does very well to support him. Full of emotion, humour and big words and theories that'll make your head spin this movie has everything you need for a relaxed viewing, the soundtrack is absolutely beautiful, really allowing you to immerse yourself in their world. I've never seen a more deserving oscar than the one Mr Redmayne picked up for Best Actor in 2015.
#6 - Black Swan (2010 ) - IMDB average 8 - My IMDB - 9.
Tumblr media
Oh my god did this film take me by surprise, I was dragged to see this at the cinema and complained before it started but boy was I wrong, Natalie Portman made sure there wasn't even a chance of her not taking home the oscar with her portrayal of Nina Sayers even managing to pull a decent performance out of serial under performer Mila Kunis. What you think is going to be a simple film about ballet of all things quickly turns into a dark, tense and mind bending tale of betrayal and oneupmanship. Breathtaking, absolutely breathtaking.
#5 - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) - IMDB average - 6.9- My IMDB - 10.
Tumblr media
Ah childhood, despite only being 21 years old this film dominated my childhood, my mum to this day won't watch this because she's seen it so many times where I would play it on loop. The story of a beat up race car that turns into a magical flying machine to help the children rescue their grandfather from a far away land this film is full of iconic moments, for me at least. From the breakfast scene that used to leave me disappointed when my breakfast wasn't presented in such a way, to the whole Truly Scrumptious song to the infamous child catcher, Dick Van Dyke made me fall in love with cinema when I was a child and I attribute my love of films today to this film.
#4 - Shaun Of The Dead (2004) - IMDB average - 8. My IMDB - 9.
Tumblr media
"Want anything from the shop? Cornetto" The pinnacle of the horror-comedy genre, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost come out swinging with this hilarious take on what is usually a very serious subject matter, from the scene in the back garden with the records, to the awful Dawn Of The Dead reference this film screams hilarity from start to finish, with a very touching ending as Shaun, (portrayed by Simon Pegg) doesn't kill long time best friend Ed (portrayed by Nick Frost) instead opting to keep him chained up in his shed so they can continue the fun they had when he wasn't a zombie.
#3 - Whiplash - (2014) - IMDB average - 8.5 - My IMDB - 10.
Tumblr media
People often use the term "breathtaking" very loosely and a lot of the time it doesn't warrant it, I've used it a few times if you scroll up, but Whiplash, Whiplash deserves it. The dictionary should have a photo of Miles Teller drumming at the end of this film next to the word breathtaking. J.K Simmons pulls out potentially the best supporting performance I've ever seen (Ledger is not supporting he is the lead I don't care what the oscars say). The most suspense I've ever felt during a non psychological thriller, unbelievable from start to finish it's very hard to not connect with Andrew (played by Miles Teller). I waited far too long to watch this, if you haven't, do it immediately. It'll change your life.
#2 - Clueless - (1995) - IMDB average - 6.8 - My IMDB - 10.
Tumblr media
Missing out on top spot in my list is 1995's Clueless, I'm not entirely sure why I consider this my second favourite film, it might be because of my incredible attraction to both Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd, it might be because I like teen drama, it could even be because I love the opening track "Kids In America" by Kim Wilde, to me this is the perfect teen drama / rom com. A coming of age story for Cher and Tai (played by Alicia Silverstone and the late Brittany Murphy respectfully) the film centres around Cher's obsession to boost Tai, the new girl at school's popularity, all for her own gain of course. Tai quickly becomes more popular than Cher and it soon becomes a story of betrayal, all while a semi incest relationship is brewing between Cher and Josh (played by Paul Rudd). The film ends with the two proclaiming their love for each other while sealing it with a kiss. Timeless.
#1. Silence Of The Lambs (1991) IMDB average - 8.6 - My IMDB - 10.
Tumblr media
Here it is, number one. My favourite film of all time. The quintessential psychological thriller (fuck you watchmojo saying Vertigo is better). This is what a film should be, tense, rewarding to watch, re watchable with incredible characters who have amazing chemistry together, I've never seen more chemistry between two actors / actress' than the chemistry that Sir Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster have together. Mr Hopkins puts in the greatest performance, leading or supporting I've ever seen. He's scary, he holds your attention, every time he's on screen your eyes are glued to it. The fact this film picked up 5 actors is testament to its greatness, picking up awards for Best Picture, Best Actor, Actress, Director and Screenplay. I have never felt the things I feel while watching this film. The scene where Hannibal rips off the guards face and uses it as a mask to escape the asylum is one that'll go down in cinema history. To anyone that hasn't scene this absolute masterpiece, do yourself a favour, take the day off work and watch it.

Beth’s top 10 films of all time.
#10 - American Psycho ( 2000 ) - IMDb Rating: 7.6 - My rating: 9
Tumblr media
A thrill ride from start to finish, American Psycho is a film which will go down as a modern age classic. This is something I can watch at anytime, whatever mood I’m in. Patrick Bateman is one of, if not, my favourite character in film of all time. The ingenius representation of callous charisma etches into the minds of people who watch this and really leaves a lasting impression.
#9 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone ( 2001 ) - IMDb Rating: 7.5 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
The first installment of the Harry Potter franchise is ultimately my favourite. The magic of watching this film when I was younger has stayed close to my heart ever since and will never go away. The introduction of all the characters and the innocence of this film will always be something I adore.
#8 - E.T: The Extra Terrestrial ( 1982 ) - IMDb Rating: 7.9 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
While we’re on the subject of nostalgia, how fitting for E.T. to be next on my list. This film made everyone want to believe in extra-terrestrial life, just to have a loyal and loving friend like Elliott did, and I was no exception. I grew up watching this film, almost every Sunday it used to be broadcast on television and I would never miss it. I still cry every time I watch it now, a film that will stay in my heart forever.
#7 - Whiplash ( 2014 ) - IMDb Rating: 8.5 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
Amazing. The word that comes to mind when I think of this film. One of the very few times I’ve ever been absolutely blown away happened during this film. I held my breath that much in the final 10 minutes that I could have easily passed out. J.K. Simmons’ portrayal of Fletcher easily makes its’ way on a list of my favourite characters of all time. Breathtaking.
#6 - Kill Bill Vol. 1 ( 2003 ) - IMDb Rating: 8.1 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
In my opinion, Tarantino couldn’t do better if he tried. I love every single scene, heck, every single second of this film. Amazing dialogue, moments of silence that are remarkably beautiful. A lesser respected film of Quentin Tarantino’s by others, the most respected by me.
#5 - The Dark Knight ( 2008 ) - IMDb Rating: 9.0 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
The best film of all time. Fact. Heath Ledger’s best performance of all time. Fact. An absolute masterpiece, Christopher Nolan takes The Dark Knight through every aspect of cinema known to man. A thrill ride from start to finish, every emotion felt, amazing. It is not my favourite film of all time but it is definitely the best.
#4 - One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest ( 1975 ) - IMDb Rating: 8.7 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
Are we all a little insane? Who knows? A film which takes us through every emotion, from happiness to utter sadness. Louise Fletcher is possibly the most deserving Best Supporting Actress Academy Award winner of all time. Compelling performance from a lesser known actress at the time. I would mention Jack Nicholson’s incredible performance but that’s a given in every film he’s been in.
#3 - Lost In Translation ( 2003 ) - IMDb Rating: 7.8 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
Wow. A film that absolutely shocked me. I went into it expecting to not enjoy it, but boy was I wrong. The chemistry between Bob and Charlotte is an art form on it’s own. A recent watch of mine, however it has made it’s way all the way up to my 3rd favourite film of all time and I don’t see it making way for anything else in the near future.
#2 - The Breakfast Club ( 1985 ) - IMDb Rating: 7.9 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
It is so hard separating my top 2, but it had to be done, so The Breakfast Club comes in at #2. I have seen this film countless times and every time I watch it, it feels like a new viewing. Every character has their own story, opinions, background, etc. And it is amazing to see these characters get to know eachother and realise their opinion of eachother was all a myth. Absolutely perfect film.
#1 - Psycho ( 1960 ) - IMDb Rating: 8.5 - My rating: 10
Tumblr media
Ah, we finally get to #1, and we have Psycho. Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece. It’s surprising really, to myself, that this is my favourite film. I’m not really a lover of the horror genre yet to me, this is perfect. I see it more as a psychological thriller rather than a horror. I wish I was around in 1960 so I could experience the sheer terror of this never seen before type of film however whilst watching it I can imagine just what it was like. Hitchcock broke all the rules to make this film and I am SO glad he did.
