Living The Holiday Spirit!
Christmas is one great time of the year when everyone gets a few days off. How to spend these holidays and what plans to make and checklists that need to be ticked off may sometimes seem overwhelming.
Every year people look forward to this much needed break, whether it’s to spend time with family, travel a destination or just chill during this time just by yourself. Plans are usually made in advance for ones who get seldom other opportunities to do what they want to do, but for some, these are like any other days that they may get to take care of things that have been put off the entire year.
Though it is difficult to deny that the festivities do rub a positive vibe on even the least bothered or interested in this yearly tradition. However you always encounter an over enthusiastic “planner” or the ever positive and cheerful soul in our whereabouts.
For people who savor more traditions, Christmas is the best time for family reunions and to reach out and reconnect with family and friends that have drifted apart due to understandably busy lives in general. After all it’s a festival of love, happiness, laughter and lights.
There are families who take pride in following memorable and much cherished traditions followed for many, many years, while others believe in setting up new and fun ways to make the coming years that everyone looks forward to. These traditions may involve having family members to decorate their own Christmas ornaments, bake Christmas goodies, go on a fun trip to get a Christmas tree and set it up together.
Having a fun neighbour Christmas decorating competition. Setting out cookies and milk for Santa and of course the exciting advent calendar with all the fun tiny surprises and treats. Although it may be time to make up new activities that the whole family can enjoy together. You can collaborate with equally fun loving neighbours to set up a “Christmas Bazaar” to sample treats and grab handmade crafts as last minute gifts for colleagues and friends.
The money and left over treats and crafts can be donated to a local hospital, church or even shelter homes.
This year you can set up a new tradition by being an example to your kids and involving them in all activities that show the true spirit of the holidays. Your entire family can volunteer at soup kitchens, or volunteer for fun wrapping of gifts and toys to be donated to kids.
We all can do with reminders of how fortunate we are and can share our gift of giving by buying just a couple of things for ourselves and making a donation to various organizations working selflessly and tirelessly all around the world. A good idea would be to have kids save some amount and then donate it to a charity that displays their name on the donated item. It could be a water fountain at a school in Africa or a bench in a park with their names. It would encourage them to be more generous especially when they see the smiles that they have brought to the faces of the less fortunate. Ask friends and family and grandparents to make a donation on behalf of the kids instead of getting them gifts this year.
These traditions will awake the true spirit of the holidays that we all so want to enjoy.
And of course, the Christmas dinner has to be as memorable as the event itself. But again, keeping up with the true essence of this special time of the year, try involving the kids by having them prepare a few side dishes or putting together hor d'oeuvres or simple yet mouth watering desserts. No shame in taking help   from store bought sauces, puddings, cookies and cakes as long as everyone has a good time and in the end get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. A family favorite recipe book can be a great keepsake for all and new recipes can be added every year for all to enjoy. The messy kitchen can be cleaned up in no time when a family favorite holiday album is played along.
But then there are few of us who will be spending these holidays by ourselves. As we watch our friends making plans and driving or flying to their families, we wonder and sometimes look forward to some time all to ourselves. This may be difficult for some to understand but some of us actually look forward to this break and enjoy it as much as people spending holidays with their families do.
For those who possible are by themselves can take delight in crisp and refreshing walks around the neighbourhood and the happening places and witness the rainbow of lights and festivities, all the while sipping limited edition warm cinnamon and candy cane flavored coffee.
Catching up on their reading. It is perhaps a good time to read favourite classics and rekindle the special memories associated with those stories. Going through the Christmas traditions such as setting up and decorating the Christmas tree is a good idea as it adds a holiday cheer to your living space.
Cooking or baking a recipe that you had always wanted to try will end up in a relaxing evening in pajamas and a best loved movie with a charming dinner date with yourself.
Don’t forget to pamper yourself with a massage or a spa treatment and do treat yourself to a gift. That cashmere that you had been thinking of or the shoes that you had been looking at every time you passed that store. Indulge in activities that make you feel special and good about yourself. Prepare a few extras of the meal that you cooked to hand out to a homeless. Order an extra latte to be given as gift to next person in line. A smile, a thank you and a little conversation can be the start of a new friendship.
You can plan things ahead of the holidays or just take it as the day comes and involve yourself with what suits your mood best at the time.
But most of all celebrating this time of the year with loved ones or by yourself, keep the spirit of love and giving alive as that is what brings us true happiness and joy.

Back to School: 30+ Tips to Start a Great School Year
Summer is slowly winding down. Even though with just a couple of weeks left for the summer traditions, many parents are already thinking about the transition back to the new school year.
For some, it may be a whole new and even an overwhelming experience as their first child starts kindergarten. For others, it is what they have been doing year after year every September. But for some, the day after Labour Day signifies a fresh new start. This fresh new start could be a new set of goals set both for parents and students alike. Planning to take up new challenges, promises made to oneself and others, and most of all the struggle to get back in to an affective  school routine.
Planning, prioritizing, organizing and preparing is the crucial solution to make impending daily routine adjustments easier for you child and yourself as well. Remember, as a parent, the more prepared you are and the more control of this entire schedule you have, the kids will catch on your lead, follow your example and will gradually blend in to the routine.
It is important to outline and prioritize tasks. Keep your cool, do not be too hard on yourself to “prove “to be a “Do It All” parent. Remind yourself again and again to be supportive of your kids at the beginning and throughout the school year. All this will help prepare your child to relax and transform effortlessly and successfully to the new school year.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt to reach out to other experienced moms and dads and snag a few pointers and tips as well. Here are a few organization tips and routine ideas to help you stay composed and top of your game.
Back to School Shopping
Before you head out to the stores with a stack full of flyers and coupons and an aim to buy everything on the list, it is always advisable to assess the needs of your kids. Schedule time with each child to go through a wardrobe inventory. Toss away any damaged and outgrown pieces of clothing. They should immediately be placed in a younger child’s closet or packed away to be donated to charitable organizations. Have the child prepare a list of the clothing items that they will need. Gym clothes, indoor and outdoor shoes.
Now is also a good time to stress on the child to practice reusing and recycling their clothes, shoes, backpacks, lunch boxes and other stationary items that have enough use life left in them. A nice new outfit for the first day would be nice for the first day pics or even the school pictures that come later. Invest in the closet organisers that have separate days printed on each shelf. Now your child can plan a week’s worth of outfits all by themselves. Undergarments and socks can also be added to the shelf for a quick change in those busy mornings.
Hold on till the last minute athletic sales for purchasing shoes and gym wear.
School supply lists can be helpful as well as long and sometimes repetitive. Send your kids on a scavenger hunt around their rooms so they can check off their lists. This will help curb unnecessary purchases and your child will not end with three calculators.
Shopping solo for school supplies maybe faster, but online shopping is another option and sometimes a better bet. They will be more excited about using the cool stuff that they picked out.
Adjusting the Sleep Cycle
This is perhaps the greatest challenge for parents and children alike as most of us tend to be more relaxed with the sleep hours during the summer break. A week before schools open, start practicing sleep times and nightly routines that look similar to school night routines. Set up an alarm so that everyone is up and about as they normally would during school days.
For the first week of school, try not to overschedule with appointments, activities and playdates in order for the kids to adjust to their routines.
Follow Night Routines
Establish a regular nightly routine with kids. Be firm on the time and that they follow a nightly task schedule. You can make a Task chart and hang it on their walls. The tasks can include preparing and packing their backpacks, getting the school outfit ready, changing into their sleep wear, brushing their teeth and of course the story time. This will encourage them to be prepared and set stress free for the next morning, with less running around or being clueless as to what to wear.
Putting Safety First
It is very important for kids to know there home addresses and cell numbers of their parents or guardians. You may consider writing them on a piece of cardboard, laminate it and placed in their back packs but it is still advisable to help them practice remembering them by heart as well.
If your child is walking to school with or without you, take a walk to school using the same route that you intend to use to get to school. The child will feel comfortable and familiar with their surroundings. Point out any crossings, broken paths, traffic signals on the way. Talk about safe crossing and looking all ways, left, right and back before crossing.
If your child takes the bus, make sure that you go over the bus safety rules over and over again really important
Even though schools are usually equipped with first aid supplies, there is no harm in packing a tiny kit with a few band aids, alcohol wipes and emergency contact numbers.
Personal Hygiene
Your kids may be able to go to the bathrooms on their own but it is necessary to keep reminding them to take extra caution while using the toilet. Highlighting the importance of washing hands after going to the washroom, when coming back from outdoor play, before and after meals or snacks is really necessary. And it all starts at home as practice makes a second habit. You will experience fewer colds and coughs, lesser trips to the doctor and a happy, healthy child and a well rested you.
Plan Ahead
Usually, school holiday calendars are available online before school starts. It pays a lot to have the calendar displayed in front of the entire family, so that vacations, trips and family visits can be outlined. Birthdays and special outings can be decided on. A yearly calendar with large displays for everyday of the month comes in handy at this time, as all you have planned can be recorded immediately. Remember to enter all school special holidays on the calendar so you won’t regret an event that you had been silently planning and looking forward to this year.
Mark special reminders in the calendar to buy teachers gifts and similar necessities in time saving you several dreaded trips to the mall. Buying gift cards in bulk at discounted prices can be used for any occasion including surprise birthday invitations that were forgotten in the back packs.
Paper Organization
While you are buying a good yearly calendar, remember to grab those sturdy decorative cardboard boxes. You are about to experience an avalanche of paper as soon as school opens. Assign a box to each child. Make sure all artwork, signed tests, and other keepsakes are placed in these boxes. At the end of the year you can sit with your child to choose 2-3 pieces of art work to be either displayed on the wall or that goes in the scrapbook. Another tip is to take pictures of all the projects and store them in separate folders. This is a good way to hold on to all your child’s creative works while not feeling guilty and avoiding piles and piles of paper that take up so much space.
Managing the After School Chaos
The after school routine of snacks and homework and activities is probably the hardest time of the day. Here are a few pointers to make this time relaxing for everyone to ‘Unwind” after a hard day of work.
Consider turning off your phone and computers and do not answer any calls from friends and family. Pay attention to your kids. Your family will also understand and respect your timeline.
You can give the kids 15-20 minutes of relaxation time to decompress. Set up a timer and as soon as it goes off, the kids can start their after school tasks.
Another way to use this time effectively is to be prepared with yummy and healthy snacks. Children can start with their food as soon as they walk in. (After washing their hands, of course).
While the kids are snacking, you can go through each and every back pack to see if there are papers that need signing, or school trip forms that need to be filled in or birthday invitations.
Organize a work station with all the supplies necessary to tackle homework. Have your kids go straight to homework after snack, so it it’s not hanging on everyone’s head all night. And the kids can go play as soon as it is done.
But most of all be ready with bear hugs, snuggles and casual chit chat, not necessarily about school only. You never know what kind of a day your child has had and an immediate hug can melt away any stress and calm them down.
Meal Planning
Packing your kids school lunches that are both healthy and satisfying while covering the essential food pyramid can be a little daunting but with a little planning and some preparation can actually turn out to be simple and fun. A healthy school lunch is comprised of three main food groups which include sufficient sources of protein, fats and carbohydrates. Morning time can be a little stressful as far as preparing a homemade lunch is concerned but with these tips and ideas, you can make maximum use of your limited time in the mornings.
Prefer reusable lunch containers that are BPA free. Insulated food boxes are a good choice to keep lunches warm and fresh all day.
You can sit in the family room with a paper and pencil while the entire family is there, watching TV or playing games and casually jot down lunch and snack ideas. Ask the kids to contribute ideas under lists marked for ‘Lunch’, ’Fruits’, ’Veggies’ and ‘Treats’. Kids are more likely to enjoy foods that they had thought of. It will not only cover everyone’s favorites but you can now rush to the grocery with an entire list ready without much fuss.
Try doubling up family favorites such as pastas and baked casseroles to be packed for lunches later that week.
Keep easy foods at hands all times like tacos, tortillas and pizza crusts that can be filled or topped up with dinner leftovers.
Try a different breakfast each morning of the week so you are infusing variety. Example; Cereal, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles and eggs. Batter for some types can be prepared the night before and the kids can even make their own waffles in the waffle iron.
Leftover chicken can be shredded and portioned. Add different spices like Fajita or Tandoori and add the chicken to sandwiches and wraps.
Make sure to add a lot of fruits and veggies for snacks. Your school lunch can comprise of a main lunch, 3 to 4 portions of fruits and veggies and a sweet treat twice or thrice a week.
To make lunches healthier, consider using whole grain breads and tortillas for wraps.
Pack different food groups in a portioned box and involve kids in creating their own healthier version of lunchables. They can build their own mini pizza with grain tortillas, mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. Or fill their own tacos with lean ground turkey, cheese, cherry tomatoes and lettuce. They can put together a favorite parfait by adding berries and granola to Greek yogurt.
For drinks introduce them to fruit shakes and smoothies or fruit infused water for enhanced vitamins and nutrients.
Avoid as much as you can, flavored chips and snacks that contain high amounts of MSGs and are loaded with artificial additives. If you crave these crunchies, try swapping them with natural alternatives like veggie straws, crackers and natural popcorn.
Though they may seem the easiest solution to beat the morning rush, pre packaged meals are often more expensive than home prepared lunches and seriously lack any kind of nutritional value.
Sweets can be used as special treats for a good performance or a birthday but should be avoided as much as possible.
At the beginning of the school year, prepare a bunch of handwritten notes with inspirational quotes, jokes or a special message and add to your kid’s lunch boxes. Keep a sharpie handy to draw on bananas and yogurt tubs for added whimsy and fun.
Use these ideas and tips and feel prepared to start the new school year on the right foot. Remind yourself repeatedly, not to get overwhelmed trying to do ALL of these things. Simply implement things that can eliminate your stress and leave you time to enjoy something that makes YOU happy.

Balancing Fitness with A Busy Lifestyle
The idea of squeezing in another commitment into your already jam-packed busy schedule not only seems impossible but even thinking about it is sometimes tiring. There are already a million things on the to do list. If we find ourselves in a situation where we are constantly going at full speed while trying to be productive at work, spend quality time with friends and family, trying to do our part in the society as volunteers or managing to take time out to go to the gym --- there is likely a feeling that sets in where we begin to realise that something has to be given up.
While making this decision, giving up workouts is likely the choice of most. The recurring excuse to not hitting the gym is “No Time”. Experts say that this excuse needs to be examined more closely as there are underlying issues behind these two words. Typically, it is lack of motivation, lack of enjoyment, negative associations, fear of failure, fear of embarrassment or even low esteem.
“Most people are in denial about their health”. Says fitness industry icon Richard Simmons. People habitually think that they have all the necessary information that they need to maintain an equilibrium in their lives as regards to work and health. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Busy as we may be, we find it less difficult to take time out for watching a favourite show, being involved in social networking or even day to day tasks. Just like anything else in life --- practice makes perfect.
Bear in mind that when we talk about fitness, we are not only referring to exercising and working out in the gym. Fitness also incorporates a healthy intake of food and necessary nutrients according to our age and fitness levels. It also involves in preserving a positive environment around us by consciously developing a close social network of friends and family.
With the following tips and strategies, we shall soon master the art of balancing a healthy lifestyle with plenty of time for workouts and socializing without compromising our efficiency at work.
1. Make A Plan:
The best way to make time for anything, and in this case exercise, is to make a written plan. This is a commitment to oneself. Give yourself a week to see which time suits you best for a workout. Once you have a repeated time pattern, then you can add it to your computer or your cell phone this way there are less chances of you to schedule something during that time. Also, when you check the schedule, you will see the set time for your workout. This will help you make a mental picture of when and how you will be exercising thus keeping you motivated as well.
2. Wake Up Early:
As said earlier, many people complain of lack of time. If you don’t have time, then make time! You will be surprised as to how much you can accomplish simply by waking up a couple of hours earlier. And needless to say, if you plan to wake up early you might consider hitting the sack early as well. There is no need to spend mindless time on the television, when you can be getting all the hours of sleep that you need. Set a bedtime and honour it. You will feel refreshed and ready to take on the day with a new energy. Stop telling yourself that you are not a morning person. Start telling yourself that you are. A change in mindset can lead to an amazing result.
3. Prepare:
Now that the plan has been made and you are up early, it’s time to set aside a day and start the preparation process. It’s really one day where you can write your workout plan in a journal for all the days of the week. You can start meal prepping the breakfast, lunches and even snacks. This helps in a healthier choice of food when you are on the go. If you already brought lunch to work, there are less chances for you to grab junk food with your co-workers. You can even meal prep your breakfasts with all the overnight chia pudding or overnight oatmeal recipes with hundreds of variations on the net. Preparing a healthy grocery list ensures that you always have a guilt free choice of snack at home or at work. If you are planning to go out with friends for dinner, you can either plan an earlier workout or even check the menu online to explore alternative healthy options.
4. Pair With A Workout Buddy:
There will be days when you will need an extra push to get your workout in. And for that you need a fitness friend. Not only will this friend give you the right dosage of motivation when you are low after a hectic day, but will make going to a fitness class fun as well. You will each be accountable to each other and will work side by side. This buddy could be a colleague, a neighbour or friend. Even if you do not have any friends who share the same fitness enthusiasm, you can always make some nice ones at the gym or in the workout class that you enjoy. Having likeminded people can be a true inspiration and soon you will look forward to your classes at the gym.
5. Establish An Effective Workout Routine:
When time is limited, go for maximum intensity routines. You can make a few changes to bring your fitness workout to its peak effectiveness. Modify the number of reps, decrease the rest period between the sets, incorporate compound movements, increase the amount of weight you lift and most importantly consider interval training as that extra boost of adrenaline in your fitness circuit.
By minimising the rest period and including compound movements – exercises that use several muscle groups – the workout intensity increases and so do the training effects. Not only will you burn calories during the workout, but also after you have left the gym.
6. Make The Most Of Your Screen Time:
First of all, do not aimlessly surf the cable channels. Find out reviews from friends who share your interest in similar TV shows or movies. Click directly to the desired program. While you do watch TV, make the most of it. Be an active watcher. Do some crunches, push ups, lunges, squats or planks during the show or when the commercials come on. Keep some equipment like a kettle bell, resistance band or jumping rope near the couch. This way you can add in a bit of cardio as much as you can. Remember, even these five to ten minutes will benefit you in the long run and are good at establishing positive habits. You will find yourself making minor additions of mini workouts like these even at work.
7. Make Habits of Lifestyle Changes:
This is perhaps the most important of all aspects. “Do a new task every single day for 21 days and you have created a habit”, says Alwyn Cosgrove, co-owner of Results Fitness in California. Adding that the right habits “can change your life”. And it all starts with a positive thinking and positive attitude. Psychologists suggest that reinforcing positive self-talk patterns leads to a powerful way to support healthier life choices.
Even if your day is packed with meetings and commitment and is crazy busy, you can absolutely take out at least five minutes for yourself. This small act of self-care goes a long way. “It’s OK to start very-very small” Says Richard Simmons, the fitness guru. “You have to start somewhere”. Soon a five-minute walk can turn into a 30-minute brisk walk in a few weeks.
8. Find Inspiration:
Work in a few moves while doing everyday household chores. Diedre Pai is a mom of two little girls under the age of five. While balancing her everyday tasks and two active kids, she creatively includes a few exercise steps. While picking up toys, towels, food and even her baby off the floor or carpet, she increases her glute and leg strength by doing squats instead of bending at the waist. Whenever she picks up her kids, she does few lifts. Sure, to get a few laughs as well. Running after the kids is workout enough when they are outside, but adding a few lunges in between the running helps her engage in the interval training that she looks forward to.
9. Be Consistent With Your Personality:
Part of the reason that we find it to workout is that we are not focusing on the right workout that is befitting our personality. Do not engage in classes just because they are popular or a friend is doing them and loves them, instead, analyze your lifestyle and personality to find a routine that suits you. Once you understand your fitness personality, you will be able to identify activities that you actually enjoy and look forward to. Thus, squeezing them into your schedule will not be as hard.
10. Adjust Your Habits:
While traveling, pack a few favorite gym clothes and as soon as you see them it sends signals to your brain that you intend to make time for exercise. Again, it doesn’t have to be like an hour at the gym, but a good 15-20 minutes of swimming laps, or running up and down the hotel stairs can complete the task for the day. Doing a plank achieves the same goal.
Make a habit to get up and walk around during an anticipated long phone call. God knows, you need to stretch your legs and a few steps can help achieve the daily step count. Before you know it, your pedometer is flashing your achieved target steps. Taking a longer route while going to grab some coffee, or walking an extra block to a deli further down the road will never be regretted.
Adopt a do it yourself mentality. Ditch machines and start doing work by hands. This might include raking leaves, pushing the lawn mower, even shoveling snow. You will find yourself sweating hard even in sub-zero temperatures.
Conclusion:
These simple day to day actions alone can give you focus and direction. The reason most people do not act is that their goals are either overwhelming or not inspiring. So, pick something that you enjoy and really want to do. These days people have less time ever than before. Fitness often becomes an afterthought, pushed aside for more pressing tasks. But if you make whatever time you have on hand efficient and put it to best use, you can slowly reintroduce fitness back into your routine. Seeing healthy results in your general health and well-being will further reinforce your efforts, leaving you with more time to enjoy, socialize and explore other interests.

Imaginative Play – 5 Major Benefits on Your Child’s Growth & Development
How often do we find ourselves listening to our kids playing and making imaginative sounds like Vroom? When they’re pretending to be a race car driver or when we walk in the living room to find all the stuffed animals seated in neat rows and your child is “teaching “them the ‘A B Cs” or when they’ve set up an immaculate tea table complete with cookies and cupcakes. How fun is it to build a “fort “ under the dining room table using bedsheets or when we hear loud banging only to discover our precious little one “cooking” something in your pot and using your wooden spoon? And when they see you, they lick the spoon and end up with a Mmmm sound as they “Pretend “ to taste and love what they have just prepared.
As adults and parents we are not unaware of the fact that our kids observe and copy what we do and then pretend to be like us and behave in a similar manner. What we do need to understand is that when kids are observing us and when they are pretending to be like us, it is playing a vital role in their growth and development then we actually understand the depth of. In fact the positive impact of pretend play or dramatic play or imaginative play is far more resounding. Pretend play or role play is an integral component in developing the foundation of social, emotional and intellectual skills. The process of pretending reflects on many developmental aspects of a child’s personality.
Social and Emotional skills
As adults, we may see our children engaged in role play as just copying and acting out a role, whereas this is far more complex. During pretend play the child is using advanced thinking strategies, communication and is working on strengthening its social skills. During pretend play the child is experimenting with social and emotional roles of life. It is normal and pretty exciting for kids to see the world from their own perspective, but as they mature and through cooperative play they begin to understand the feelings of others.
Through mutual play, children learn how to behave in a socially acceptable behaviour like taking turns, sharing responsibility and even creative problem solving. While children are experiencing the feeling of “walking in someone else’s shoes” they are grasping on concepts and then displaying skills like negotiating, considering other’s perspectives, balancing their ideas with that of others, transferring their knowledge from one situation to the other, expressing and listening to thoughts and ideas, assigning tasks and roles, developing a plan and acting on it. If you look close enough, this is actually a description of a set of skills required by anyone to successfully execute any work project.
Thinking Skills
Dramatic play sets in motion the thinking skills of children when they learn to discover their likes and dislikes, abilities and their interests. Pretend play provides a lot of opportunities for your kids to encounter a situation where problem solving is the key aspect. Scientists and researchers believe that pretend play can help cognition by predisposing kids to a playful environment that could lead to the production of unusual ideas, explore symbolism and even synthesize different kinds of information. When children are engaged in pretend play, they are learning skills as to how to interact with people and how to cope with various situation and social settings.
Imaginative play sets their cognitive and thinking abilities in motion as they master the power to read social cues. It even helps them in recognizing and critically dealing with social scenarios which are out of their comfort zone. You may have encountered kids playing doctor and administering “shots” even when they are afraid of this similar setting in reality. Through this role playing children are asking themselves feel more comfortable and prepare themselves for life events in a safer way. Often, children utilize pretend play to cope with more challenging life events, such as a family illness, parents’ divorce or loss of a loved one.
Language skills
There are times when a child is deeply occupied in an imaginative role and you hear them say things and use certain words and phrase you never thought your child knew! Children often speak words and even use expressions that are a reflection of you and other social sources that they are exposed to like television and tablets. Children can sometimes surprise us with perfect imitations of mom, dad and even teachers. Pretend play enhances the child’s understanding of the power of language. Role playing increases the capacity of children to put meaning to words which helps them re-enact a story or organize a play. This process helps the child to make a connection between spoken and written language – a skill that will later help them to read.
Kids first words are usually a connection between an object and an expression. For example a child is playing with toys and a parent asks them to “Push” a button or “Turn” a knob. These expressions will slowly formulate into imitating the sound of ‘Push’ and later will be used as an expression related to objects. We frequently hear kids say words when they are performing tasks like whenever they open a door they will say “Turn” while turning the handle or they will say “Close” when you let them shut the washing machine door or “Hot” when they touch their food, even though it may not be hot .This may seem a little odd or even funny to us adults but it is at this very moment that all the wheels in your kids head are turning simultaneously and harmonizing their cognitive, thinking and language skills to utter that one word.
Synthesizing knowledge and Skills
As we know that learning and development in children happens over a period of time. It is not done so discretely or in isolated situations or activities. Children need the opportunity to blend their knowledge and skills together. What better than pretend play to assist them in achieving this task. At times you see them playing “grocery store”. Observe how they collaborate by assigning tasks and roles.
How all things are sorted into similar food groups or other items placed in their own categories. You will see them using math skills in calculating and tabulating the “grocery bill”. They will even utilize their writing and communication skills by making signs and setting them up. And of-course the language skills are put to use as the kids pretend to be a cahier or a customer having a conversation about the groceries or even generally.
Nurturing the Imagination
As parents and caregiver, we can further encourage the learning skills and development process of our children by providing them with the material and opportunities to keep them engrossed in pretend play activities. You may consider some of these tips and ideas to keep your child more and more involved in pretend play.
a. Create a “Prop” Box
You may consider preparing a handy “Prop” box to spark your child’s fantasy world. Fill a box or crate or bin with old clothes hats, gloves and jewelry. Add other materials like plastic pots and pans and utensils. You can use stuffed animals and dolls. Also, fabric pieces, blankets, sheets that can be used as costumes or to build a ‘House”. There could be old used up phones or magazines as well. The prop boxes can be a kaleidoscope of “stuff” or they could even be themed. It’s like having a creative experience in a box. Popular themes could be a classroom, flower shop, post office, restaurant or theatre. Fill up the box and let your child’s creativity take it from there.
b. Story Telling
Use stories to unleash the thought and thinking processes of your child. Invite your child to recreate a favourite story and add their own twist to the plot. You can excite their abilities by asking questions like “What do you think the rabbit should have done?” Or “What if the swan hadn’t seen other swans like it ?” You may be surprised by the unexpected yet creative answers by your kids.
c. Provide Dolls and Puppets
Make sure that you provide your kids with ample of puppets, dolls and other figures. They can be store bought or even hand made with socks or other household materials. Through imaginative play, kids often assign thoughts and feelings to these “People” and “animals” which helps them to explore and workout their own ideas, thoughts and feelings.
d. Be There Make Time
But remember, that no story or doll or game can replace the quality and un-interrupted time that you spend with your kids while playing and exploring ideas. Following your child’s lead you may discover and learn more about your child and their interests and need .This not only gives the children a sense of security and fortifies your bond with them but also strengthens and intensifies their developmental and learning skills.
As children grow up, more of their time is taken up by scheduled activities. You may as a parent or caregiver, consider what they are losing while giving up on pretend play. So the next time you see your kids tying a cape around their neck pretending to be a super hero or galloping around the yard as a cowboy trying to get rid of “bad people’ allow them to explore the possibilities around the, . Don’t rush them to do homework or in cleaning their rooms. In-fact, join in! Who does not enjoy being an astronaut while wearing a bike helmet covered in aluminum foil.

But, few of you who are under an impression that it is not good as gold and is quite expensive, you need to get out of the myth and we are here to do that for you.
After all, ‘silver spoon’ is associated with wealth for a reason. Because of its perfect combination of malleability, beauty, and durability, modern jewelry designers have been flocking to this noble metal. Whether it is the everyday accessories that you are looking for or a statement piece, you can look for them. Sterling silver jewelry will perfectly fit in the casual or special days and tailored to your personal tastes.
Silver has got that distinct charm with the lovely luster and brilliance that comes from the royal legacy. Owning these statement pieces would be a great idea as they look expensive but, are quite budget friendly and would be all worth it.
If you have a ‘go to’ box that you have kept for the everyday accessory, it is missing out on Sterling Silver Pendants that will surely add versatility to the collection. Mix and match the pieces with the casual and special outings and you would never feel out of trend. So many of these benefits and much more as we go on.
1. DURABLE Yes, you need to take care of these pieces but, if you do that they last long for years without losing their charm. Ask the savvy sterling silver owners and they will tell you these pieces have looked exactly the same even after forty-fifty years. Whatever, extra cost you pay is going to be all worth it with the quality and lifetime value of Fine Silver Jewelry.
True 925 sterling silver is not cheap. The only thing that you have to look for is a reliable jewelry company and the marks before you go ahead with the piece. These lovely pieces could be a souvenir and family heirlooms in the future.
2. KEEP UP WITH TRENDS Sterling silver is always in, and any of you who are updated with the latest trends would agree on that. For these pieces are designed with intricate creativity, makes each piece unique and fashionable. The lustre and sheen of these Sterling Silver Necklaces are not going anywhere and is distinct with the look. In the recent years, sterling silver has seen a combination with gemstones and uncut minerals as a staple of spring and summertime accessories. Enhancing the appeal, these gemstones set in a perfect tone with Silver Necklaces.
Options are Endless As silver is comparatively a soft metal, it makes it easier for the silversmiths to play around and bring out more creativity with the mold which means there is always a new collection to choose from and new designs are up for offer. This leaves you with pretty and number of choices each time you decide on buying a new one and find the one that fits your personal style.
Sterling Silver Pendants, bracelets, rings and earrings have thousands of options to choose from especially when you are a hoarder. Also, innovation is constant here so, you can keep on extending your collection.
Build a collection for every season
Keep on upgrading the collection with all the pieces on offer. The number of options will leave you spoilt for choices and makes it easy to completely build a new collection in no time. The best part is sterling silver complements most of the colors and metals, so you can build a set around the pieces that you have bought already. Designers have been using it to cast their creativity around it all the time. Your search for a unique high-end piece ends with the brilliantly designed pieces. Sterling silver is popular not only with the collectors but, designers as well.
3. VERSATILITY Any occasion, special or casual can make use of these pretty pieces. Go with the chunky silver necklaces for traditional days or pick up an elegant pendant for the casual one. Sterling silver jewelry is appropriate no matter what the occasion may be. You might as well carry it for both the occasions as silver does not look over do anytime. It just adds on to the look with a classy appeal. You do not have to worry that your jewelry will not match with your outfit or has gotten old enough to fit with the new collection.
4. HYPOALLERGENIC JEWELRY Some of the pieces of jewelry might not suit a specific skin type and ends in allergies with increased contact with skin. Unlike brass and other base metals that can cause skin irritation and allergy, sterling silver jewelry does not contain metal additions that can cause an allergic reaction. People can wear these pieces with no worries, especially with a new piercing when the chances of infection are high. Copper I usually used as the metal addition and it isn't likely to cause an allergic reaction.
Maintenance is easy Most of us, have a common reason to avoid including silver, tarnish. It is definitely disappointing to see your investment getting into drains. But, with easy and quick care you can restore your silver pieces to their original state. It would happen that our silver pieces will get discolored and look dirty after sitting in the jewelry boxes for a bit long.  All silver can tarnish with time mostly if, it is not worn often.
So, start wearing them already. Wearing them often would keep them clean and prevent tarnish as the oils in the skin cleans the metal. Also, that is what you were thinking when you bought them in the first place. Best is to wear them as much to make them look beautiful.
Now, all been said, you can start collecting the favorite pieces that you bookmarked and did not actually want to spend unless you were sure.
