Youtube is still more free than TikTok

I put a song on both Youtube and TikTok. The video went up no problem on Youtube. Just pass the copyright check and that's it. On TikTok though, the video was taken down due to "violations of the community guidelines." Granted the words "false flag" were in the title. But this is artistic license. It isn't as though I was actually doing political commentary outright.

I have an appeal in. And depending on the outcome of the appeal, I'm going to have to decide whether I want to continue on with TikTok. It's a shame, because I get more views and interaction on TikTok. But if they are going to constrain me like this, it is not worth it.

Bandcamp and other sites.

Today, my bandcamp page started doing weird stuff. The last track on the album I was working on wouldn't play. It just spun and spun. I tried out some of my old songs, and some of them wouldn't play either. Also, on Firefox, some of my album art wasn't visible. I have a note into Bandcamp support to see if they can fix it.

I looked around for alternatives to Bandcamp, but found almost nothing. Most want a fee. There was something called routenote which I attempted to try out. It is more of a way to get your music on other platforms, like Youtube music and Spotify. I got to the part where they wanted a copyright date for the songs being put up. All of my songs are currently under creative commons, and I would be hard-pressed to come up with a date.

So, I'm stuck with what I have, a half working Bandcamp page and a few social media sites. I might start posting mp3s directly to tumblr again.

In the meantime, much of my music still plays on Bandcamp. I'm also on Youtube and tiktok if one cares to look. I often post my music on Youtube to tumblr. If I were to think harder, I'm sure I could come up with a few other sites I'm on.

I remember the days when there were all sorts of sites to post your music. It looks like those days are gone. This is a lament for the good old days of the internet I guess. When things were more free and open, and I certainly had more opportunities to share my music rather than sell it.
